An Empty Plate

First scheduled for May 27, 2016, I skipped over a few
scheduled posts for this one because strawberries may be on everyone's North American weekend menu with the holidays both Canada and the US are celebrating. Long may freedom ring!

An empty plate can be a lovely thing...

but that is not what a plate is for! *

Oh my! This was so delicious! John even decided that a strawberry pie could be a nice change from strawberry shortcake. At our house, that's big news. You can find this recipe at Kitty's

* All due apologies to Mr. Shedd who once said, "A ship in harbor is safe, but that is not what ships are built for."

  1. I guess a plate is meant to be filled but I also consider plates as art and therefore hangable upon a wall! I usually make a similar strawberry pie once a year, which reminds me I should do that soon. One of our favorites.

  8. I just drooled on myself, Vee! That looks sooooooooooo good. I seldom make strawberry piesw because Michael is so horribly allergic to strawberries - but will make to gift or take to a potluck sometimes. Oh, just yum, yum yum! Yours looks heavenly delicious!!!

  9. Well I have plates that are just for show and sit on a shelf high up on the wall. But! My favorite plates are used for something yummy. That pie has soooo put me in the mood for strawberries. Hope you have a nice 4th. Still praying for you everyday.

  10. I just came from Lorrie's luscious raspberry cream muffins...and now here to this scrumptious-looking strawberry pie!! We missed having our own strawberries this year, but we hear that the new owners of The Farmhouse enjoyed them. I remember how John loved strawberry shortcake (he ordered it at the restaurant where we met you!), so this pie must have been really good to rate as a sometimes-substitution!

    Continuing to pray...

  12. Beautiful plate and delicious-looking pie! I also make a red, white, and blue pie which uses both strawberries and blueberries. We love that, too! I'll be checking out Kitty's recipe.

  14. Oh yum... we have passed through strawberry season here in PA. Sadness. Warren's mom kept us stocked with them while they lasted from her picking sessions in a local field.
    Beautiful plate.

  19. How fun it would be to see that pretty scene on the plate once the pie was enjoyed. I made a strawberry pie from the MGCC site on Memorial's Day. It was fabulous and had me thinking the same thing as John. A very nice change from strawberry shortcake.

  20. Our you pick strawberries are coming to an end.........I've always made a sponge cake with strawberries and whipped cream when I have a lot of strawberries to use. A pie sounds lovely! I've never made one.

  29. Hi Vee, My grandma had one of The Friendly Village plates. I think they are lovely. Our fresh strawberries are gone now and blackberries are plentiful. Vee, we are preparing to move but I hope to be back blogging soon. God bless you.

  31. I love strawberry pie, as long as the berries are sweet and not crunchy and the gooey stuff actually has flavor. No whipped cream on mine please. But if it's strawberry shortcake, i prefer the biscuit kind. Just a heads up, in case i drop in. xo PS I have always loved that Friendly Village pattern.
