A Haven for Vee

My Friend Diane

It’s been a rough week culminating with a final day of being a junior citizen. I’ll let you figure that out. I hate connecting the dots.

Anyway, by Friday, after having been sick for most of January with the head cold from #ell and then coming down with a chest cold last Sunday, I was finally crying Uncle. The kittens’ mewing was keeping me awake all night and wouldn’t even give me peace for dozing during the day. Those of you who have ever had bronchitis or pneumonia know what I am talking about.

My nurse practitioner squeezed me into a busy day and by evening I had my diagnosis and my prescriptions. My sister had just happened to stop in that morning and would not go home. ☺ She changed my bed and did my dishes and drove me to the clinic and to the pharmacy. She was a godsend. I was laughing in the morning when she told me that I couldn’t drive myself to the clinic because I couldn’t walk a straight line, but as the day wore on and I had grown more weary and ill, I was grateful that she didn’t obey orders.  Sometimes a gal needs a sister!

While I was laid low, I spent time visiting my online friends. I noted that I had somehow missed visiting my friend Lavender Dreamer and clicked onto her site. Boy! Was I in for a shock. Her blog had been removed!

It didn’t take long to be in touch with Diane and to learn that she had not taken her blog down rather a bot had. For further information, please click on *Diane’s new site.* The scary thing is that, if this can happen to Diane’s blog, it can happen to mine or to yours.

Things like this make me think about backing up my blog, which is on the same tab with deleting my blog. Hmmmm, wonder why blogger planned it that way. My blog was last backed up in 2016. Now I am trying to decide which dozen posts best represent my haven. I think I should upload them to Shutterfly or something. One never knows...

As I told Diane: you chat about walks in the park and wildlife, books, and dolls, and crafting and sewing... It just occurred to me that Diane has been telling me to enjoy my life and remember to play for many years now. Why, goodness, Shirley and Tammy wouldn’t have a stitch of clothes if it weren’t for Diane!

I pray that things are set right so that all the hard work Diane has put into her blog through the years does not go away in the blink of an eye. Lavender Dreamer and Mr. Lavender Dreamer are on the case and I certainly hope that they prevail. Otherwise, it just isn't fair.

  1. I posted about this too after getting an email from Diane. This just doesn't seem possible, but obviously it is. So unfair. She has one of the best blogs out there. I hope she can recover it, but even if it is gone for good I am still going to follow her on her new site.

  2. I'm so sorry that you've been sick for so long. I'm glad your sister came and helped you and surely the right drugs will get this thing under control. Take care of yourself...oh and Happy Birthday! Did you have a birthday this week and miss having a party? When you get well, I hope you have cake! Thank you SO much for this heartfelt post. We've been friends for a long time and I appreciate what you've said. I worried and fretted all week but I feel very encouraged now by the outpouring of love from my blog buddies. Thanks again and take good care of yourself my friend!

  4. Oh my goodness. How can that be? I have twelve years of living documented on my blog and would be very unhappy if that was suddenly gone. Here's hoping they can retrieve all the lost memories.

So glad your sister came to the rescue! Hope you are soon on the mend.

  6. Thank goodness for sisters is right! So sorry you've been so ill, Vee.
It's so sad what happened to Diane--I really don't like what I'm hearing about a bot taking the liberty to shut someone as kind as Diane.
Praying for wellness to be restored. ♥

  7. Oh, Vee- I am so sorry to learn you got that Black Plague going around - three different strains have popped up around here and nearly everyone I know has been affected - esp those who fly...all that diseased recirculated air! My sister caught it and was sick on a cruise - can you even????

Miraculously we have escaped anything serious - I have been devastated with pneumonia twice in my life and it is the worst thing ever.

I cut and pasted about Diane - hope it helps - praying she gets her blog back. I wonder what on earth that bot found - surely nothing about her blog - but it could've detected something sinister attacking the blog..............and if that be the case then they need to make it right for her/them. Such a shame, she has to be heartbroken.

Anyway, please get better. And hug that awesome sister for me. She's a keeper. ♥

    Hugs and prayers.

  10. Bless your sweet heart, Vee! I’m so sorry you’ve been so I’ll. I pray for you every single day but I will add a return to good health now.
I’m devastated for Diane and you’re right- she blesses all of us with her uplifting posts of beauty and nature!

  11. Well, I have never had bronchitis or pneumonia and I am so sorry to hear you have been so sick! What a dear sister you have...and I hope you are on the road to recovery by now. I read about Diane's blog last night and do plan to help spread the word on my next post. I will be doing some research about backing up my blog. I have thought a lot about printing my blog into books...I may have to revisit that idea since I heard about Diane's issue. I just don't understand why google/blogger would choose to remove her blog! I am so heartbroken for her. :(

  12. Oh Vee, I'm so sorry that you've been so sick. Thank goodness for sisters!! It sounds like you're on the mend.
It's jus terrible what happened to Diane's blog. What in the world is going on that her blog could be deleted. That's scary stuff.
    P. S. I hope you're having a wonderful day!

  13. Belated Happy Birthday, Vee. I hope you can celebrate more when you are feeling better. So glad you have your sister around to keep you in line!
I received Diane's message yesterday and plan to put up a post this afternoon. Scary to think about losing all that we've written over the years. I tried backing up my blog to my computer yesterday and it told me that I need to download some application. I didn't have time to deal with it then, so I'll have to go back.
    Take care of yourself!

  14. You have a dear sister!! I'm glad you're seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. That bug really packed a wallop for you!

Tough situation for our mutual friend Diane (soon to be my neighbor!).

  15. Vee,
I have been missing you and so sorry you have been sick. Glad that your sister was there to nurse you back to health. This blogging just gets curiouser and curiouser. I have several things that just confuse me but I keep trying a little..
Hope you are feeling good soon..
    Love, Mona

  16. Oh dear me. Now I need to figure out how to back up my blog. So sorry to hear about how the month has been treating you sickness wise. Hope my birthday month is kind to you (March). Prayers for healing for you right now.

  17. I hope that your sister's loving care and the new prescription will be just what's needed to find you back to good health. I will send up a prayer and have you in my thoughts, dear Vee.
I can hardly believe that Diane's blog has been removed by a bot. She has been such a faithful blogger for as long as I can remember. How awful to have all of that disappear
so suddenly. I sure hope there is some way she can retrieve it.

  18. Oh no!!! I haven't been blog reading for a while and had no idea about Diane's blog. Mine got shut down once because I didn't pay to renew my google domain name. They always send the notice to my google mail which I never check. I always check my yahoo mail. It cost me a lot more than the original $12 to renew it once they closed it down.

  19. So sorry for your illness. We've had a lot here, too, and my grandsons and their parents are now all on meds for Strep. But what a wonderful sister you have! I always wanted a sister and am glad my daughters have one each! I use WordPress but always wonder...It does have a treasure in memories for my last ten years....I hope your friend can get her blog back. That google bot sounds ruthless and a bit stupid.

  20. I hope you are feeling better, Vee! I'm glad your sister took good care of you! It has been a bad winter for many with bronchitis and pneumonia--my own son had pneumonia and was quite ill with it. I was fortunate to escape this virus/bacteria this time around but I know the winter is not over yet!
I saw Rebeccah, "Lady Gadget" from Blogger commented on Diane's blog and told her she must have had malicious code somewhere in her blog for it to have been flagged and taken down and they would work on the problem. Perhaps she was hacked? I hope they can recover it! They say "back up your blog" but I'm afraid to do that as my computer has limited space and I'm afraid a ten plus year old blog would take up all my space as a file. A dilemma!

  21. Oh dear Vee - I hope you are feeling much better and that the meds are working! Scary to imagine the blog disappearing - eek! I have no idea how to back mine up??? I will have to look into that.

  22. Well finally!!! Welcome on board and hope you had a happy birthday. :-) So glad to hear you're climbing out of the pit that was January. I'm sorry it was so miserable. May springtime come soon. We all need some sunshine, warm breezes, songbirds, butterflies, and flowers!!

  23. A belated happy birthday--and hope you are much happier feeling better after a rough patch. Bronchitis/pneumonia can be awful and take a long time to fully recover. This is my first year not getting it in years, but I realize winter isn't over quite yet. It's been a terrible story about Diane--like a bad dream. I didn't know there were other ways to back up your blog other than printing it, Take care of yourself.

  24. Happy belated birthday Vee!! Sorry about you being sick may you get healed quickly cause Spring is around our corner and fun times in the yard await.

  27. So sorry you've been so ill. Somehow, I have missed even a head cold thru this entire winter. Could be becaus3 I stay home a lot. For whatever reason, I am thankful. It is a godsend to have a sister or, in my case, a daughter and son, to help us when we need it.

Yes, I, too, was shocked that a blog can be taken down so easily, without warning of any kind. I've never backed my blog of almost 12 years. I just figure if THEY can take down your blog, they ccan also take the backup. Not sure how it all works, tho.
    love to you...

    1. They can take your backup, but you can keep slapping it on as it is stored in your personal files.

  28. So sorry that you have been plagues with illness. It is a hard thing to not feel well, and then to have it hang on and on and come back in other forms! Wearying. I am thankful that your sister was there to help . . . sometimes we just need for someone else to take over for a bit and ease the burden. I pray that you are well on the road to recovery again!!

What a sinking feeling it must have been to have one's blog disappear! Disheartening. I was glad to learn that Dianne's blog was restored, although not with a lot of white-knuckle moments, I'm sure!

  29. Hi...just saw your post from a sidebar of another blog. Just wanted to tell you that I publish my blog into book at the end of every year...since 2009. I make a copy for each of my son's families and it becomes a diary of our lives that hopefully, one yr my grandchildren will enjoy reading. I just got my 2018 blog back from print and made a post about it on my blog, if you're interested. Lemme go grab the link.

  31. Hi Vee! I'm so sorry you've been so ill this winter! I do hope with the meds you are starting to recover from all the nastiness. I have wondered about closing my blog too. I just came on here the first time since early December and I'm afraid the same thing will happen to me as did Diane. It happens to a lot of bloggers and with mine 'at rest' it could easily disappear. I haven't a clue how to back it up or close it but will take a look today. We've been busy with renovations to our downstairs rooms the past 6 weeks and one more week to go! It will be nice to have things back to rights again. We've not been sick except M has had a couple of colds lately. I fell (missed the bottom step to the basement) and badly sprained my right ankle so I've been 'at rest' the past 1.5 weeks. I got out to have a haircut and get groceries yesterday. Yay! It's been a cold and snowy winter here and I'm glad it's March. Spring is just around that proverbial corner!! Take care Vee. Get well soon. xo Pam

  32. HI Vee, Sure hope you are WELL on the road to full recovery by now. Being sick for a prolonged period is no fun at all. You've suffered long enough! I too am about to leave being a "junior citizen" behind in a couple of weeks. Lol. Have to look at the bright side- a monthly cheque and more discounts. :)
It's scary to think one's blog can just disappear. I would be devastated. I must revisit Diane and read up on what they did to get it back- I wouldn't have a clue how to go about it...
March has arrived and hopefully milder temps. I'm sure you are just as tired of winter as I am. We still have a LOT of snow, I expect flooding in our area will be bad again this spring. SO glad we live on a hill.
Take good care, my dear! XO

  33. wow I had no idea that happend to Diane's blog, how scary and back she is up and running again. Hope you are feeling better. Back into blogging again after a long break. Hope I can keep up with it. I have had bronchitis several times and it is no fun at all. Hope you get a lot of rest! I love the photos and that shade of Blue you have on too. The flower photos are gorgeous. Having a hard time with blogger today so I hope this goes through...lol Have a fun week :)

  36. Thanks for telling us how to get back with Diane. It's just amazing what can happen to your blog... but then life is just that way, the unexpected can come along.

  37. Vee, I'm so sorry you've been ill. I hope it's all behind you now. I've had both, but "just" bronchitis this time around (for half of autumn!). Glad your sister took you in hand!

  38. Goodness, so sorry to hear that you've been under the weather! Hoping that you are feeling better now, and so thankful for your sister's visit! Glad that Diane's blog was able to be restored, but what a terrible headache for her to go through! I too backed up my blog, as I had never done so. We are hoping for spring here, while on watch for a snowstorm coming in tonight. Winter is seeming pretty endless this year, lol! But the days are getting longer, and next week, temps will be in the 50s, so will probably turn into a mudhole in a hurry... lol! Blessings to you :)

  39. Just trying to catch up with my friends and I am so sorry to hear that you have been so sick. Girl, me too! I was gone for a week on a birthday celebration only to come home and become ill. My mercy! Today is the first day I have begun to feel I was getting a little mojo back. Praise God for your sister! Speaking of backing up a blog. I am not even sure I know how to do that. Guess I best get to learning. Hoping you are mending well Vee. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  40. Oh Vee, I am so sorry that you were so sick! It certainly sounds like you went through the ringer. I sincerely hope you are feeling much better now and I hope the nastiness does not come back to visit you. I'll definitely keep you in my prayers.

Indeed, that was a scary thing that happened to Diane. I have been trying to back up my blog regularly now because yes, it could happen to any one of us.

Enjoy the remainder of your week. It's snowing right now and it's quite the blizzard. A good day to stay close to the fire....and drink coffee :)
