It was not well visited nor much commented on so I decided to have a giveaway *on this post.* So easy to do when comments are low. In this case, there were 21 comments and two of them were mine. As some of you know, I'm whacky with giveaways. They are often silent giveaways and one doesn't even know that there will be a giveaway. At this point in my blogging, I am not looking for numbers and I like blessing my regular commenters.
In this case, no longer having my darling husband who used to reach into the bowl to select a name (he really enjoyed that), I have resorted to a number generator. My winner is number 7, discounting my own comments. Congratulations to Sue from Pear Tree Lane!
Contact me, Sue, just to say whether your addy remains the same. I am ordering a paperback copy of The Last of the Saddle Tramps from Amazon using your address as the delivery. Nice and tidy that way. 😇
I loved the book. It was an easy read and is an excellent peek into 1950s Americana from one coast to the other. Mesannie amazed me. The people who helped her along the way amazed me. Her proposal of marriage amazed me and her wonderful animals amazed me. I was struck by the goodness of God to an old woman who saddle tramped from Maine to California with a couple of horses and a trusty dog. And that He granted her so much additional time: twenty-five more years!
Mesannie and Art Linkletter circa 1955 (I think.) Thank you for revisiting Mesannie with me! |
I missed that post when we were on vacation. Now I've gone back to read it--so interesting. You and I share a love of cemeteries.
ReplyDeleteSue is such a sweetheart! I'm so happy for her and how sweet of you to do a fun giveaway. I'm going to look at that book and put it on my wishlist! Enjoy your day sweet lady. Take care of yourself my friend. Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteVee, I am praying for you. Ted has his follow up check tomorrow in Indy. They will probably schedule a week of maintenance chemo the first week of Sept. He actually has done well...except for occasionally forgetting something. I feel like a nag, constantly on him about one thing or other.:( Stay strong young lady. Bless you, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeleteOh, this is just my type of book...I love first person accounts of life...not famous people...but the everyday ordinary people.
ReplyDeleteObviously, my head is not in gear since I told everyone yesterday that it would be “two days” when it has been only one. 🙃 It is what it is!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to the winner!
ReplyDeleteThat book sounds fascinating! I love books about interesting people!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to sweet Sue!
I know that I have seen that book in a library somewhere! I believe I've even at one time picked it up and looked at some of the photos. Now I really want to read it, especially after learning more of the history.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet and fun giveaway! Congratulations to Sue!
Congratulations to Sue! Mesannie was even on the Art Linkletter show-wow. What a character she was. Strong and interesting. I need to read more about her. ♥
ReplyDeleteYes, the white horse she is leading was a gift to her from Mr. Linkletter.
DeleteI need to try this kind of give away some day! Genius.
ReplyDeleteVee, I ordered this book after reading your prior post!
ReplyDeleteOK now I have to order this book. Congratulations to Sue! Thanks for the giveaway. That was sweet of you. Hope you are doing well. I continue to pray for you.

ReplyDeleteCindy
Congratulations to sweet Sue! I have wanted to have a give-away for a very long time but never got it together. I love what you said about not caring about the numbers. I have to say that I feel the exact same way...in the beginning it was a bit different though. I'm sure the book is excellent!
ReplyDeleteAwesome! Congrats to Sue. smiles
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Congratulations to Sue!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to Sue! What a fun giveaway and it sounds like a very interesting read.
ReplyDeleteAw........You have a generous heart, Vee! And a quirky sense of humor! Well done.
ReplyDeleteHappy for Sue that she won the giveaway though I wish it were me. : )
ReplyDeleteSounds like a good read.

Hi Vee, Another good book to add to my list. I'm happy for Sue's win!
ReplyDeleteSending prayers to you and wishes for a pleasant weekend.
Dear dear Vee, I am sitting here this Saturday evening visiting for the first time in days, what a wonderful surprise, I am just overcome with joy! Thank you for your generosity, and friendship!
ReplyDeleteLove,
Sue
Yay! I was giving you until Monday morning. 😉 Addy still the same?
DeleteAhh...Sue is a great name for you to pull out of the giveaway dish!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to your winner.
ReplyDeleteI am so lazy on visiting other blogs...and on my own. I have lost the joy of blogging since my life is so different without my other half of heart....I try. I try hard to rekindle the love and fun of blogging but I just can't get that old feeling back. It's the same with other things...my little patio that we built together..the container garden...just so many things. I am doing fine...I have my family and am so thankful...God loves me...so thankful...it just seems the light has gone off and I have trouble finding the light switch.
ANYway, I hope you are feeling as well as possible...hoping the treatments are working...I think of you so often and love you dearly.
The days of "tame" TV are thoroughly behind us, aren't they?! Mr. Linkletter was a good man.
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of her! What an amazing lady.
ReplyDeleteI came over here from Sue's blog. Nice to meet you, Vee! :-)
Hi Sandi~
DeleteWelcome! I have been reading at your place and will come in for a landing on a comment there soon! So much to ponder.
Yes, and I, too, stopped by from Vee's. This sounds like such an interesting book. I may have to order it. Have a wonderful Labor Day!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to sweet Sue for winning your giveaway, what a generous thing for you to do, and I like the way you do it, spontaneous! The book you are giving away interests me as I love true stories, and this sounds like a wonderfully interesting one. Continuing in prayer for you in this journey you are on! Hugs and blessings :)
ReplyDeleteHoping things are going along as we are praying for. Praying there's no pain that can't be managed.
ReplyDeleteWould you let me know when you get the box I mailed to you? Just so I'll know..xo
You are such a good soul, Vee. That book sounds fantastic! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteHi Vee~
ReplyDeleteI'm a little late to congratulate the winner of this wonderful book, but still, congratulations! What a wonderful story, I am so curious about her life now...I think I'll order the book! I absolutely love cemeteries, and especially love reading finding the headstones that tell a story. I sometimes forget that all of those people, lived and loved, they had families and adventures, and a story to tell. Like you, I can't wait to meet some of these fine folk on the other side!
When I finally came back to my blog, you were the first one on my mind. So happy that you are doing well. I'm sure that you have good days and bad, and I pray that you feel all the prayers said for you on those bad days. Always love to see your beautiful face on my comments!
Hugs and Love,
Barb
Looking at info about Mesannie Wilkins I came across your blog. Glad you enjoyed the book; I would love to read it but I can't find an electronic copy. That's what I need because I am a blind person; either electronic (digital), audio or braille. Thanks for writing about Mesannie, she's a Maine woman and a character who is still remembered in her home town minot.
ReplyDeleteWell, this was before my time here in your blogland! I am sorry I didn't know you sooner!! I couldn't help but notice that two of your readers/commenters from this post and the other one are no longer with us: Debbie Ray and Laurel Wood (Mildred). Neither of them knew at that time that their time was also short on this earth. I know Debbie went on to see her dream house built in Tennessee before she passed. She got to celebrate Thanksgiving and I believe Christmas there and then not long after entered heaven. And dear Mildred also made a big move from GA to SC to a smaller home because she wasn't well and wanted something more manageable for her and her husband, who is somewhat handicapped. And then she passed on not long after that. But they were both women who lived their lives in joy and peace and victory until Jesus called them home. Much like Mesannie in spirit. Thank you for contacting me after my comment yesterday. I have already ordered one book about her, but now I want the original written by her, so I am going to look it up. Thank you again!! What fun!!
ReplyDeleteYes, you mention two dear friends. I miss them, but I know that I will meet them one day for real. Debbie's diagnosis came after mine so it is sobering to have her fly off to Glory ahead of me. I am so grateful that she got to enjoy her home for a little while at least. I pray that her family is doing well. Dear Mildred was chronically ill so I know that Heaven is a great blessing as she is with The Lord and perfectly whole and well.
DeleteAlas, there are many more blogging friends who have gone on. I miss them all.
I am thankful for the update, as I have prayed often for both Debby Ray and Mildred. They certainly are no longer in need of prayer, but more completely well and whole than any of us. So thankful that they knew The Lord!
DeleteOops, I guess I WON'T be ordering her book afterall...the cheapest copy I could find online was $99.00!!! I will see if our library has it! I guess it is more popular than I realized! LOL.
ReplyDeleteI looked at my standby for used books -- Thriftbooks -- and found a copy for $93. It's probably because it's hard to find -- I would guess not a lot of copies were printed.
DeleteYes, I looked at all the used book listings, and they were all very high. Also, I cannot find it in any library near me, since I live in Florida. The closest copy is at a university library about 100 miles away! LOL. So, I will be content with the book I have ordered that has been written about her life, and it sounds like it is pretty authentic to the real story. (and I only paid $9.00 for a used copy!).
