Found myself wondering just now, if I dated the photos, whether you could figure out the post all by yourselves. ツ I wouldn't be at all surprised!
We are having a few rainy days, which is fabulous because the lawns have been getting crunchy. It began raining not long after I finished mowing the lawn Sunday and is still going.
Both the photo above and the photo below were taken on Monday, June 29, 2020.
The photo above and the two below were taken on Thursday, June 25, 2020. That was the day my daughter's car wasn't ready from the repair shop so she decided to take my car home to her house with me in it. Her campfire roses have grown into a lovely hedge just as she hoped when she planted them two years ago. They are such beauties and a photo doesn't do them justice.
I don't know what kind of roses these are, but they are also doing well this year. I bought a swimming suit this year just to use at the pool. It was a pleasant hour floating about. After that, we had our supper right there on the lower deck.
A few cuddles with Charlie in the evening... Charlotte was under the bed. She did arrive in my bedroom late in the night to give me a wee kiss on the lips. I appreciated that.
The next morning, Laurel said, "Day Trip! Call Aunt Kim and ask if she wants to go."
6-26-20
She did! And off we went. What a glorious day it was. Blue skies and very warm weather.
Our goal was to find the new Cabin Masters Store in Manchester. Not too difficult at all.
Edited to Add: I had no idea so many were watching Maine Cabin Masters. Silly me! In that case, you might be interested to revisit the episode where this building was featured:
Just a few of their wares. I can't reveal all because there's a birthday coming up.
There were lots of tourists there. This is a bit of a problem because they are supposed to quarantine for two weeks. A number of them said that they didn't have time for that as their vacation is only two weeks long.
We went out for lunch to an old-fashioned diner where the waitress arrives at the vehicle if its lights are on. We all ordered old-fashioned red hot dogs. I don't remember the last time I had one. So good.
After that, we visited my niece and her kiddles. No pictures! I can hardly believe it. We left my sister with her daughter and grands as time was growing short and Laurel wanted to be sure to get her car before the shop closed. The day went by much too fast.
This tomato tart was prettier than it tasted, though it did taste pretty good. What else can one do on a rainy day besides bake and put up a blog post?
Tomatoes on the Windowsill
It s unlikely that I'll be back in time to wish you holiday greetings so...
🇺🇸Happy Independence Day!🇺🇸
Good Morning, Vee. So glad you are receiving much needed rain. I love your lantana in the pot by the door. Your daughter's camp fire roses are so unique. How very nice to float on the pool. I love Maine Cabin Masters and watched several episodes last night. I did not realize they had a shop! How fun! Would love to visit there. What a pretty day you had to be out with your sis and daughter. Your tomato tart looks good and I love your windowsill shot. I wish you a blessed July 4th! xo
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your day trip! Loved the hedge of roses at your daughter's place. The tomato tart looks scrumptious but you said it looked better than it tasted. Did it need something added? Sounds like such a relaxing, lovely time...so glad you let us peek.
ReplyDeleteHappy day,
Brenda xox
Hi Brenda!
DeleteI used thyme as was suggested. Now I wish that I had used rosemary or even oregano.
I love the show Maine Cabin Masters!! What a fun day trip.
ReplyDeleteWe finally got some rain on Sunday. My garden is thankful! I love hearing about you having fun! I love day trips, and am in need of one. This weekend we are taking an 'extended' day trip to see Emma and her family, including our new grandson! I'm excited!
ReplyDeleteYour tomato tart looks really good!
I am so insanely jealous you got to visit Maine Cabin Masters! I loveeeeeeeeeeeee that show, Vee...and you know my ultimate goal is to come too Maine! Actually, we are friends on FB, they all seem like really nice folks. I really really need some water therapy, perhaps I can get my husband to take me up to the lake, smiles.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful day trip, Vee. Again, so jealous (well, truthfully, I don't get jealous, maybe envy? lololol) Yeah, the 2 week quarantine is a must here too...I had a Zoom job interview out of state and they told me the same thing; must quarantine and get tested! Well, no thanks. With no income and such, it would be difficult to do. Unfort. it looks like we will be stuck here, however, hubby is talking about just "biting the bullet"---way too much TMI, LOLOL.
I hope you have a beautiful July 4 my friend. smiles
What a cute shop, I'd deficiently love to stop and visit it, I'm a t-shirt/sweatshirt kind of gal. That tomato tart looks soooooo good, do you have a recipe for it? Have a wonderful 4th!
ReplyDeleteHi Judy!
DeleteI lifted Paula Deen's recipe here: https://youtu.be/WmAsoPrWqRo
Trouble is, she used puff pastry and I used crescent roll pastry. I think it would be better with the puff pastry. (And no way was I going to be as fussy as she was making appetizers. I would just leave my puff pastry rolled out in a sheet and go from there.)
Thank you so much!
DeleteThat tomato tart is making my tummy growl! Looks so good! Loved all your pictures and paragraphs! New England architecture is so charming!
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence Day to you, too!
That was very newsy. Love the roses, the fact you got a day trip in. Will check out the link. I want to know how the base for your tomato tart. It looks really good. Good to see the happenings around your haven. ~ Abby
ReplyDeleteHi Vee,
ReplyDeleteI love your pictures from the last several days! What kind of flowering plant is that on your porch? It's so pretty, and Laurel's roses are lovely, too!! My hubby has watched Maine Cabin Masters several times, and I've seen it once or twice. I'm not watching many DIY shows these days for some reason. That looks like a really neat store, though. :)
Oh, your tomato tarts look wonderful!! I agree with you about the thyme -- I'm not a fan. I think oregano would have been just right. It must be so nice to spend girl time with Laurel and your sister too. Hope you're doing well, Vee; Happy Independence Day to you, too! Long may we stay that way!
Big hugs to you,
Denise at Forest Manor
Oh the tomatoes. YUM! Happy Fourth of July to You too! I Have watched the Maine Cabin Masters before. ALways something interesting going on. Glad you had a nice time. Take care and be happy. xo
ReplyDeleteHow great that you got out and had some fun with Laurel and Kim. I guess it is now official that I live under a rock... I've never even heard of the Maine Cabin Masters :/.
ReplyDeleteI will be checking out the link you provided :).
Your lantana is so pretty right outside the door. Has it drawn the butterflies yet?
That tomato tart looks yummy. My plant is loaded with green ones. It gives me something to do every day when I check to see if there is any red showing yet. Ha! It's becoming a bit like the watched pot.
Forgot to mention how beautiful Laurel's roses look.
Wishing you a Happy Independence Day as well.
What a great outing! Family is more precious these days than ever! I'm at the ranch and Internet is sketchy so I didn't get to see all your pics so I will try to revisit later.
ReplyDeleteCovid is still raging here so we are back to staying in at home especially. Country seems safer.....
I have not heard of Maine Cabin Masters.....but I live under a rock sometimes. I didn't know about Fixer Upper until a friend in Arizona called to tell me about it! Now that was a long time ago.....
Those tomatoes on that window sill look divine. Matter of fact I have some sitting on mine as well from my little plants. I have never watched Cabin masters but that shop is so cute. I am so glad you enjoyed your day trip and spent it with family. I love those kind of day trips. Just does the heart and soul good Vee. Hope you have a wonderful 4th of July. We are probably going to be building two new barn doors so looks like I am going to be busy. Well, as a helper! LOL! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteHappy Independence day to you! Glad you got some rain. I appreciate it here because it means I don't have to water. How nice to have that day trip and enjoy the store you were looking for. I haven't heard of Maine Cabin Masters but I'll check it out. That's crazy about the tourists... It's a 2020 miracle here that I bought a bathing suit and actually wore it in March at the hotel we stayed in during 20 degree weather. Makes 2020 even weirder... Your hydrangea? on the porch is a color I haven't seen before. Very pretty.
ReplyDeleteLantana
DeleteMy bathing suit was soon married to a pair of three-quarter length leggings. I should've purchased a tent. 😏
Sure enjoyed this happy post. What a wonderful day you had. Beautiful flowers and that tomato sure looks tasty.
ReplyDeleteHello Vee, A day out sounds like a very good thing! I will have to look up Cabin Masters after I post, for I've not heard of the show. Your potted flowers are so bright and pretty, and Laurel's roses equally so.
ReplyDeleteI hope none of those vacationers were crossing the border from the north. Oh, if only everyone would stay close to home and be tourists in their own regions!
The tomato tart looks very tasty. Too bad it didn't taste as good as hoped for. I noticed your reply to Brenda - oregano does suit tomatoes better than thyme, in my humble opinion, too!
Yay for your overnight get-away and fun day trip! I must check into Cabin Masters...this is the first I have heard of it. I hope those un-quarantined tourists stayed far away from you!! You have me wishing for a tomato tart right about now. I'll wait until my garden tomatoes are ripe. Happy Independence Day! PS Lovely blooms!
ReplyDeleteVee, I'm smiling reading about your adventures. Though I don't know about Cabin Masters I'll check it out. I must say that the tomatoes are beautiful. There is truly nothing better than a juicy ripe summer tomato! I have some pitiful looking green ones on my one and only plant. I'm not familiar with camp roses, but your daughter's look amazing!
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like you had a wonderful day. Your flowers are pretty...wish I had a greener thumb. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteOoooo . . . a day trip with a daughter and sister sounds like a good time no matter where you go! (Of course a day of floating in the pool and dining al fresco sounds pretty nice too!) I had never heard of Cabinet Masters, but it sounds like something I'd like.
ReplyDeleteYes, your tomato tart looke delicious! Will you make it again with tweaks?
Hi Vee! You know, it sure is fun to see a post from you show up and I get to live vicariously through you. I haven't left the house since end of February. Well - I have accompanied my hubs a few times but stayed in the car. I haven't done anything fun in so long I am not exactly sure I can stand it much longer.
ReplyDeleteLoved all your pics - and I am happy you are happy.
The glimpse of that pool sure made me smile. We have the largest blow up one this year - still new in box cuz we gave the grand our last year's one. They needed bigger and so it was a win-win. I think I will fill it tomorrow. Not as much fun as when my wee grand would come to my pool - praying this pandemic ends soon. I am sad and lonely for company.
Big hugs.
Loved the look of the tomato tart, I have an abundance of tomatoes at the moment so will definitely be giving that a go. The rose bush looked amazing such a stunning colour. A great tour. Even I across the ocean love that show...
ReplyDeleteWhat a great time you had, Vee! All your adventures made me smile 😊. Happy 4th to you ❤️🇺🇸💙!
ReplyDeleteWe have a drive in hot dog place here and pulling in to order a couple hotdogs for Hubby and a burger for me felt WONDERFUL while house bound. All drive thru places and drive in restaurants were allowed to stay open or to open on time as with the hot dog place. Love your photos!
ReplyDeleteNow I will have to go look up Maine Cabin Masters because I may be among the few unfamiliar with this show. Hope I can watch it online as we have no TV cable/satellite service. What a nice outing and surprise ones are the best! The tomato tart did look good to someone who hasn't had lunch yet. We just bought some vine ripe tomatoes today so looking forward to a salad tonight. Hot dogs are among my husband's favorite foods.
ReplyDeleteNow that looks like a fun day out. We have also been getting some much needed rain...the creek that was billowing so beautifully this spring is all but dried up. :( I am not familiar with Cabin Masters either but I sure would like to visit that store. And did you say red hot dogs? I thought they were a southern thing. Happy July 4th to you, dear Vee!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day out, Vee, and I enjoyed all the pretty flowers. I envy your rain, we don't get any during the summer and it is beginning to look pretty brown around here.
ReplyDeleteAmalia
xo
Lovely flowers and looks like you had a fun day out. I enjoyed my visit today!
ReplyDeleteThese photos are the essence of summertime! I love them. I don't understand what red hot dogs are. We don't have them here. Is the meat different? Or is it the toppings? Happy holiday and health to you and yours, Vee!
ReplyDeleteHow cool to have a day trip. And what fun all the things you did. I think the tomato tart looks so tasty. It makes me want to try making one. I have never heard of red hot dogs. Are they just hot dogs with spicy toppings? The flowers are so beautiful! I absolutely love them.
ReplyDeleteNo, they're not spicy; they're in red casings and have a wonderful snap when you bite into them. I'm pretty sure they're not the most healthful things to eat, but when eating one every five or ten years...😉
DeleteI love Cabin Master's! Rick and I record it and watch it when we can. Sounds like you had a fun time!
ReplyDeleteI love rainy days. The roses are so pretty! Sounds like you had an enjoyable day trip. Happy Independence Day!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun outing! That tomato tart looks really good. Good for you to buy a swim suit and spend some time in the pool. Perfect for this heat wave weather. Looks lovely there. Your flowers are so pretty. Stay safe Vee and distance from those tourists who don't seem concerned - ugh!
ReplyDeleteAHH! Vee ,it looks as though you are having a wonderful summer, I wish I could have been able to send you some rain, we have had more than what we could handle until this week, it's a little to late for some produce, some drowned in the garden, but not to late to replant for fall.
ReplyDeleteHope all is well, I think of you so often, and always pray for you.
Your daughter Laurel reminds me of our daughter, Susan, always so thoughtful and caring.
The tomato tart looks delicious, I think there is something so homey about tomatoes on a window sill, we had dinner at Susa's on Saturday, her windowsill was lined with tomatoes too!.
Thanks for visiting and for your sweet comment.
I have certainly missed blogging and connecting with friends.
Speaking of tomatoes, I have a bushel to can today, sure could use some help.
!wink~
Love,
Sue
Hi Sue!
DeleteNow that's something I'd find a lot of fun. I am sure that you could teach me a thing or two or ten!
Now I've got to look into Maine Cabin Masters. What channel, please? You take the most beautiful pictures.
ReplyDeleteIt's the DIY channel. I purchase the season and watch on Amazon Prime. Hopefully, your cable network carries it.
DeleteI've subscribed to your blog for a while now, but can't remember if I've commented before. I know you introduced me to a young(er) couple's vlog in a previous post and today I've been introduced to Main Cabin Masters! I'm watching an episode now on their blog, though it's slow streaming for me. I don't know if I'll eventually bite the bullet and buy a season on Amazon Prime, but I'm truly enjoying the episode I'm watching at the moment. Beautiful blog, Vee - and yes, great pictures!
