Things Change

Well that is the most obvious statement ever made. A lot has changed in the country and around the world since I last posted. You'll be grateful that I am not going to talk about it here. If you ever want to know what I really think, you can simply click on the Let's Get Political button at the bottom of the page.

My news? I am gaining more weight every day. The pizza above was not great. The crust was pitiful; I made it. Karen (aka Happyone) tells me that I need a stone.

The apple enchilada below was delicious. You can find that at Kitty's Cozy Kitchen.
I put some cheese in mine.

The pears are so tasty. They came in a fruit basket my daughter sent me for Mother's Day. Are they Bosch pears? They're not Bartlett pears.

Waning red azaleas...there are better pictures from other years. I do like Everlasting as ground cover.

Lots of purple in the garden these days.

lilacs are on the wane, too

Next up will be the peonies...lots of blooms this year

Pitiful roses...one lonely bud...

Neighbors' lawn looking peaked...loaded with acorns. He wonders what happened. I didn't clean them up this year, that's what happened. Look at them! Way too many for me to sweep up and haul off. Maybe the grands would love to do it.

Leaving you with a windowsill shot.

  1. Many blessings, Dear Ones! I had a number of glitches getting used to the new platform on Blogger. Nothing so awful that I won't plug along without returning to the former platform. For example: I could not edit my post. The minute I tried to add more commentary, I was met with a blank white page and had no way of knowing where to put my added words. This comment is my work-around for receiving comments to my inbox. 🎣

  2. Yes, Blogger's new platform has left me frustrated beyond belief. ANYWAYS--you already know my political stance (bahwaaaaaa-grin). I miss seeing your posts, Vee. Hey, I have a stone and a pizza oven, let me tell you, it is a work in progress, sigh. NOT ONCE has my husband made a good pizza yet, just saying. So, lets just say, "Hell, Giovanna's, I need to order a pizza!" has become a regular occurrence here, LOL.

I hope you have a beautiful day friend, smiles.

  3. I so wish we could just say it! It's a frightening state we are in....and very ridiculous....very! Food looks great as does your garden! HOPE YOU HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND VEE!

  4. I really dislike the new Blogger platform --- blech blech blech! I've been really hankering after pizza, but even though things are opening up around here, hubby and I are staying close to home just yet. Love all your flower photos, even Miss scrawny rose (poor dear), you can see though that she is working hard on new leaves and buds. Plants have to work so hard sometimes, just like people.

We'll keep on keeping on, in spite of the world gone mad. Thankfully we have our peace in Him.

    Wishing you a beautiful weekend,
    Brenda xox

    1. Since writing this yesterday, I tried once more to see if I could familiarize myself with the new Blogger platform, and I'm happy to report it was much easier this time. I worked on it today and even began to feel more comfortable with it. So take courage. I came across one blogger at wherefivevalleysmeet@blogspot.com who shared some helpful tips. I'm always grateful when the learning curve flattens out eventually.

  5. I've updated my computer as quickly as the new update was available and I can finally comment on your blog! YIPPEE!!! The prior update was causing all kinds of havoc on my computer. Will everlasting grow in the shade. I need some ground cover that spreads quickly in the back shady section of my yard.
I had lots of purple this year too!

  6. Like you and Brenda, I dislike the new Blogger platform, but I'm finding my way around it. When I go into Blogger and see my list of posts, I can edit when I click on the post title. You can also revert back to Draft by clicking one of the arrows on the right side of the list of posts. Hover over them and they tell me what to do.
I had the worst time figuring out how to make photos larger - that pen button for edit isn't very intuitive.
We call Everlasting "Snow on the Mountain" and I had it in my garden, but it was a bully and took over everything. I have one little pot of it because I do love its looks, but pull out any trace if I see it rearing its head in the beds.
Your pizza looks good. I don't have a stone, and make pizza frequently. Everyone seems to enjoy it.
So great to see a post from you today. Have a great day, Vee.

  7. That pizza looks great to me! But I love pizza. Your garden looks great. How do you keep it all up? I went out earlier to pick weeds around my wagon wheel and realized I sure ain't in the shape I used to be! LOL! Glad to see a post girl. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  8. Do you have any Sprouts near you. Home Run Inn Chicago frozen pizza is the best and it goes right on the grate. The pears look delicious and the flowers are all so beautiful. Pizza stones are nice and they are great for baking cookies too!

  9. We enjoy pizza too but were spoiled after the ones we were served in Sicily - there are none that can compare to those amazing Marguerita pizzas served outside by the sea!!!!

Lovely flowers - you will have a lot of gorgeous peonies by looks of it.
Love the windowsill shot - I put my little vase there with flowers and herbs - keeps me smiling when cooking/doing dishes etc.

You gals who have tried new Blogger are brave and I guess this weekend I'll give it a try! I'm gathering tips I see in comments and posts which hopefully will help me. You'd think Blogger could be a bit more friendly and give us a blueprint to follow!

Glad you are well dear Vee - but definitely do not go rake the acorns please!

  10. Your flowers and plants look pretty. I love the bright colors this time of year. We've been eating low carb pizza and I really like it. Haven't made a "normal" pizza in a while. I don't like the new blogger, at all. Have a good weekend.

  11. Your garden is looking very pretty! I wish I would have planted peonies!

  12. Nice to have a look around your garden. : )
If I lived closer I'd give you one of my stones - we have 2.

I tried the new blogger and liked it but couldn't get my pictures to get bigger when clicked on so I went back to the old one.

  13. A lovely look around the garden, Vee! What a gorgeous dark purple lilac that is! The peonies look so healthy. Our peonies are looking good also, but I am afraid we may not get to see them bloom as we will be away for a bit.

I have not had the nerve to try the new Blogger. Life is so busy just now that I am doing well to find time to post at all, never mind learning anything new.

So happy to see a post from you!

  14. A very enjoyable peek around your garden. I remember having everlasting at my house in Michigan. Like Lorrie above I also knew it as "snow on the mountain". I don't think I've ever seen it here in NC.
I haven't tried the new blogger yet. Suppose I should do that before they force the issue.
So good to hear from you, Vee. I hope you are feeling well.

  15. It's sure looking like spring in your neck of the woods! That lilac blossom color is fabulous. I enjoy seeing the iris as well-not enough sun for me to have them.
I posted my last post using the new blogger platform as well. It felt awkward at first, but I'm sure both of us will get used to it.

  16. If you're gaining weight then it must mean your appetite is improving. This is wonderful news. Good to see!

The purple Columbines -- the Colorado state flower (in blue). We sure don't see them down here in Florida. Too hot for them, most likely.

Thanks for such a cheery post. We need more cheer, don't we?

  17. BEAUTIFUL garden!
I don't like the new blogger thing. Why does everything have to be NEW and IMPROVED? Drives me crazy!

  18. Hi Vee! I’m glad you tried the apple enchiladas, and the cheese sounds like a great addition. I do use a pizza stone and heat it in the oven when I’m preheating. Your garden looks good, and must make you happy!! Enjoy your weekend, my friend.

  19. Changes, good and bad, big and small . . . but always change. I cling to the fact that He never changes! That is an awesome thing to ponder!

There are some beautiful things there in your world! Even the pizza looks pretty good to me right now (it's a little before lunchtime), but I'll take your word for it. Things aren't always as they appear.

I have not yet used the new Blogger. I am postponing the inevitable like a true procrastinator.

  20. Our gardens can give us a lot of joy during this strange time! Yours is full of beauty right now and full of promise for the future!

  21. Such pretty things growing in your garden. I'm surprised the pizza wasn't as tasty as you would liked. It looks delicious. Have a wonderful evening.

  22. Just tried out the new blogger for my last post, I struggled to load the photos but got there in the end. You have a beautiful garden, with lots of pops of colour. I make pizza regularly and have never used a stone. Have a great weekend.

  23. I guess a lot of us are gaining weight....I lost 30 pounds last year and have put back on almost half of them. Bummer...just can't get the motivation!!
    Love the pictures...they are lovely.

  24. The bear here would LOVE those acorns! They are such scavengers here and eat everything. Many have lost their bird feeders and hummingbird feeders to bears so far this spring. I don't bother to put any up as the squirrels are also quite voracious. Pizza can be difficult without the right crust and cooking temperature. I often buy my dough for convenience. Your garden is beautiful! My peonies are finished and my roses are beginning to bloom. I love seeing everything grow as it keeps my mind off these difficult times.

  25. Thanks, Vee for a post which doesn't expound on the current state of the country and the world. It's not that I want to remain ignorant of what's going on around, just that blogging offers an escape. For me, it's a chance to spend time reading about the lives of others, and seeing the beauty in their yards. I understand the weight gain as it's been happening in our home as well. We've also done home-made pizza with varying success. I have a cast iron pizza pan and my crust never comes out as well done as from a pizza place, but we keep trying. I have managed some success with home made dough.

  26. Forgot to add that I am also finding the "new" blogger interface somewhat challenging. Since the old interface will eventually be gone, I am learning as I go like so many others. It's always helpful when fellow bloggers post hints too.

  27. Hello, I'm home again and trying to catch up on what I missed while I was away. I enjoyed seeing your waning and about to burst forth flowers. We've been trying different crusts for pizza (store bought). The crust that has worked the best for us so far is the Pilsbury pizza crust following the directions. I have a pizza pan with holes in it. We had a huge amount of tight pine cones this year which would be way to time consuming to rack up. I'm sad about one blog I follow that has become a hotbed of hate (in my opinion) Thankfully their are a few peaceful posts in between. That's all for that subject on this happy blog post. Hope this week goes well for you.

  28. I'm back online! Yay! I started making pizza with naan bread as the crust after seeing it on a cooking show (probably The Pioneer Woman since that is the only one I've watched much lately). It has worked great. I bought one package of naan and it came with four pieces. I used two for one dinner and then last night used the other two a week later.

Naan stays fresh a long time but I think I would freeze the other two pieces now that the heat and humidity have returned. My husband likes these better than my homemade crust, probably because they are more like a thin and crispy crust from a local pizza restaurant. It also has built in portion control. ;)

  29. We have loads of acorns too. It is overwhelming! I enjoyed seeing your flowers. My mom's favorite color was purple so I especially enjoyed all your lavender and purple blooms. Lilac is a favorite of mine. I always enjoy the picture from your window...so peaceful. God bless your weekend. xoxo Mildred (click on my name to visit my blog)
