A Haven for Vee

Garbage

This is not much of a post, friends, but since some have become accustomed to seeing a post on Tuesdays, I will share the most exciting thing of my week so far.

You may remember that I had given myself the assignment of cleaning up the garage. It really needed it. There were many personal papers of John's that I had to go through piece by piece. When I had done that a few years ago while still cleaning in his barn, I found money and an old coin collection. This was passed on to his daughter to give to the great-grandchildren.  So I was not willing to just toss those bags of papers without going through it. And so far I have found thirty-five cents!

Help arrives!

Even though I didn't meet my deadline of the end of September, I'm calling this task a success. Yes, there's more to do, but what a burden has been lifted.

Tomorrow, I hope to do better. I actually have my annual leaf-peeping drive with Laurel at the ready. Those of you who have had enough of that can be forewarned. I sense that some are growing weary of such posts.

Thanks for popping by...

Love,
Vee

  1. Hi Vee~

What a relief to have that task done! I always feel so good when I finish a job like that. It's always interesting to find things like the coin collection, makes a hard job seem like a treasure hunt! I never get tired of seeing the beautiful colors of Maine in Autumn! I'm looking forward to your post! Have a wonderful week Vee!

    Hugs and Love,

  3. Hi Vee,

My hat is off to you, my dear, for making yourself do this onerous task. These kinds of things are the worst -- I just have to MAKE myself slug through them. But like you, what a feeling of accomplishment I have when it's finally done! Your garage looks much better, Vee, and you probably feel like you can breathe better too. It's almost suffocating to have that sort of task hanging over one.

We've been trying to do the same sort of thing here in our bedrooms and basement. So far, we've collected several large bags of trash and at least three piles for Goodwill donations. I agree with Linda, I never tire of hearing from you; your posts are about real life, and that's what most of us deal with on a daily basis. I love leaf-peeping pictures, too. :D

Take care, my friend, and have a great week!!

    Love and hugs,

    Denise at Forest Manor

  4. I commend you on a job well done. I know that must be a great feeling of accomplishment. I would, however, say you are underpaid :). I love your leaf peeping posts. Looking forward to it.

  5. Doesn't it feel good though to get those not so fun tasks done!? We need to clean our garage now that winter is coming, hubby would like to park his truck in the garage ;)

  6. What an accomplishment. I haven't had such a dramatic clearing of any one space, but the new space I'm seeing in my home as I declutter day by day this month makes me feel freer. And you've just reminded me... On Thursday I'm driving to a friend's home (who recently moved to a most beautiful part of our state. I must remember to take pictures of the changing leaves! It may be my only real chance of capturing some beauty this fall as the colors really aren't terribly vibrant here - yet.

  7. Wow what a difference. Garage looks great. Sounds like you find as much money as I do walking. :)

  8. Good for you! That was a huge job! I personally can never get enough of fall foliage so I say bring it on! Our color is really coming on so you’ll be seeing a lot more of it from me, too!

  9. It's such a relief when we finally finish a task that we've been dreading. Congratulations on a job well done! Now you'll have to treat yourself with that 35 cents! Have fun on the leaf peeping adventure. I never tire seeing your beautiful area dressed for Autumn.

  10. Growing weary of leaf peeping tours? Not this girl! We have some color here and there, but far more are still green. I almost threw on the brakes this afternoon when Bekah pointed out a clump of vivid red leaves on our drive through town! Gorgeous! I'll wait for ours and enjoy yours (and anyone else's) in the meantime.

I am giving you a standing ovation for sticking with that task and cleaning out the garage. It sounds like part hard work and part tedium, so I admire you so for getting it done, even with help.

    1. The help was in a hired dump truck service. I am happy to pay $100 plus poundage...they are charged by the ton.

I can see a bumper sticker of the future for you: I brake for red foliage. Was it a burning bush? I love those things.

    2. I could make good use of that bumper sticker! It was a tall slim tree, squeezed in between evergreens, that had shot upward in search of sunlight. All of its red leaves were at the top.

I love burning bush too. There is an old one in our back yard, but it is behind the garage and we can't see it from the house. Too bad.

  11. Cleaning out stuff is a huge job and such a relief when it gets done. Tired of leaf-peeping - never! We out west don't get the colours you have in the east and I'm always happy to look at your photos! Enjoy your day out with Laurel.

  14. Good for you to tackle such a huge job - oh boy, oh boy, can I ever relate! This needs to happen in all corners on this old farm - eek! You have inspired me. I need one or two of those dump trucks!!!

  15. You must be feeling so good after completing such a big job! Congrats Vee.
My attic needs clearing out - you would be welcome - on the other hand just relaxing and chatting together sounds a lot more fun!

  16. Oh Wow you're so disciplined! I get to the point where I just toss no matter what. I know, it's a bad thing, but it starts to feel so oppressive after a while. I should send you a quarter so at least you'd have 60¢ for the job well and conscientiously done! God bless you Vee!

  17. Since Covid, we have been having our community gardens steering committee meetings in garages. I'm in awe of how organized and "host-able" those garages have been. I think it's the organization that impresses me. Looks like you've done a great job!

  18. Vee, like so many others, I never tire of seeing leaf peeping tours from different areas. of course, everyone touts New England as having the "best" but many other areas can be just as lovely with fall foliage, so you can keep em coming for me and others! Kudos to you on completing that garage clearing task. We never had a garage to clear out, but there was a barn and workshop from the VA house. Now, we have storage units within the apt building and some of the stuff there will eventually be gone. Always a great feeling when it's all done as you well know!

  19. Currently shoveling....er, cleaning out the basement. Or I should say, cleaning a bit, thinking about it lot, then cleaning a bit more. Progress is being made, although slowly. Still, what a joy as the excess stuff disappears right?

  20. A big job, Vee. When my husband and I cleane dout my mother's house of over 60 years we found many many postage stamps that she bought over the years and obviously didn't remember where she put them. We have enough stamps now that we will never have to buy any.

  21. WOW!!!! That is a HUGE undertaking - not only physically, but mentally and emotionally as well. Good for you, Vee. Seriously. You have earned your leaf peeping time. Be GOOD to yourself. Always.

    Hugs.
