Wednesday Hodge Podge

 Let's Get Started...

1. Do you have a sister? Tell us something about her. If you don't have a sister, tell us about a friend who has been like a sister. Or tell us about a sister-in-law if you have one who is extra special.

2. Resister, assister, insister, persister...choose one of the words listed and explain how it relates to you and your life lately.

3. Share a favorite song, book, movie, or television program that features sisters.

4. August 3rd is national watermelon day...are you a fan? Do you like watermelon flavored candy? Besides eating the melon as is, do you have a good recipe made with watermelon?

5. 'Tis August...what are three things you're looking forward to this month?

6. Insert your own random thought here.

1. Yes, I have a sister who shows up from time to time here on the blog. If you peek in the "Who" folder in my sidebar, you'll see her photos. And her grands who are four years old and two years old are also there. (It's lovely to have little folks in the family again.) We have weekly visits when life allows. On Wednesdays as it so happens. Alas, illness struck this week.

My sister has been a great blessing to me in my health journey often taking me to doctor appointments, hair appointments, and grocery shopping. She has also done laundry, dishes, and cleaning.  Sometimes it helps to have a nurse in the family. ツ

2. Resister—one must be willing to resist in this bizarre day and age. Whenever possible, I throw sand into the mechanism, if needed. No, I am not explaining.

3. Little Women, of course. I am thinking that this will be the number one response.

Go out more, keep cheerful as well as busy, for you are the sunshine-maker of the family, and if you get dismal there is no fair weather.

Louisa May Alcott, Little Women

4. Yes, I love watermelon. No, I do not enjoy watermelon flavored anything. No, I have no recipes that employ watermelon in the ingredients list.

5. Picnics, Picnics, Picnics

6. Many random thoughts wander about in my old head. Coming in for a landing would be too much of a challenge today. Trust me!

Thank you for reading. Please join Joyce *here.*

  1. A sister who is also a nurse and a good friend is a triple blessing! That version of Little Women is my favorite version, and I think I've seen them all! (Side note: I adore the March house in this movie.) Happy picnicking!

  2. Fun to see your hodge-podge. I so wish I could transport you here to Stratford Festival to see Little Women live. I think you would love it. Yes, August picnics are the best!

  3. So fun that you are hodgepodging this week! I enjoyed your answers so much. I'm happy to be able to say that I have met your sister! What a lovely lady she is, too.

  4. I wish we'd done more picnics when our boys were little. Or maybe just took more pictures of the ones we did. I have fond memories of family picnics when I was a child. I tend to think it was the fried chicken my mother would pack up in foil, kept warm in a styrofoam cooler. Or maybe it was pictures of our picnics that secures them in my mind even more. Or maybe it was the squeak squeak squeak of the styrofoam cooler when it got lodged against things in the car. I remember Dad getting annoyed, stopping the car and reconfiguring things in the back of the station wagon to stop the irritating squeaking. :) That image is as vivid as anything else associated with picnics.

  5. Vee, I enjoyed all of your answers. "Throwing sand" into the mechanism -- you are such a rebel! (smile) "Little Women" -- my favorite is the first movie from the book. I think the filmmakers took too many liberties with the versions after that. I recently saw a preview for yet another one -- I doubt I'll pay $$ to go see it.

  6. Nice to read all your answers. You are blessed to have such a sister. I have neither sister or brother.

  7. I just bought the newest version of Little Women and love it. I still think the one you've shown is my very favorite though! Enjoy your evening!

  8. What a comfort to have a dear sister nearby to help when needed. Yes, in this day and age being a resistor is a noble thing. Always happy to read a post from you dear Vee!

  9. "Throw sand in the mechanism" I love that!!!! >,-))) Having gotten away with my husband's blood draw this morning, without our being made to wear a mask, is my today's "sand thrown"! LOL!!!

We have been fed up with mask wearing for a long time.

Only places we have to any more, are in a medical setting. (And some very marginal medical settings. I think these places feel more "important," for demanding masks.)

For a long time, we have worn them, so as to be able to breathe. Obviously against the *Rules* of course. No real doctor has complained. Or tech or nurse. Only a couple of receptionists. (The 'power trip' thing, me thinks. >,-) )

And this morning's blood draw. Only one poor person on duty!!! Needless to say, she did not have the time, to wave masks around!

It was a delightful experience, except for the wait, which was not her fault.

Anyone else with me??? Throw Sand in the Mask Mandate??? :-))))))

  10. Oh, you allow comments to publish.....

Ahhhh but I remember, you did not like to come upon Comment Moderation.

I don't either but have had to use it... Which means I have to try to remember to proof read, before Publishing.

Perhaps I will try doing without it again............

    1. Sorry! I had nothing to do with it. They all went to the spam folder and I rescued you from the bin. I am no fan of masks. They do nothing, but make people sick.

  12. Vee, I love "Little Women," and we saw the very worst version of it years ago. The play was done in a small community theater, and it was horrible. The cast might have done well with the original play, but this was an "updated" version set in the era of either World War One or Two, can't remember which because it was such a train wreck.

  13. Hi Vee. I don't have time to answer all your questions, but I do have one sister. Six years my senior, and a sweetheart. For years when we lived close we did Sister Weekends at the Ocean, but that was years ago, and now with my dearest health, and the miles apart, I miss is very much! She is will be 88 in Sept. and doing very well!

  14. How wonderful that you can do things with your sister on a regular basis. My sister and I get together mostly for birthdays/holidays. She lives almost 2 hours away and she still works 4 days a week, so that makes it difficult. And now we are involved with our kids' store, so my free time will be limited as well. But still, it's wonderful to have a sister. I hope you are feeling better. I loved the picture of your picnic at that scenic overlook. I love those spots throughout Maine and NH. I loved Little Women. I think my favorite was the one with Katherine Hepburn as Jo. I am not crazy about the newer versions. I hope you are enjoying your remaining days of summer. It's still really hot and humid here, but September and October start getting better. Just not quite like your autumn, however. sigh! Take care and be blessed. I love it when you post!!

  15. How wonderful to get to see your sister so often, Vee. I talk to my sister every day, which I’m grateful for. Having little ones on the family sure brings us joy! Little Women is one of my all time favorite books, and I loved the original movie. Happy August!

  19. I enjoyed reading your hodge podge answers. Your sister is a gem. I am fortunate to also have a wonderful sister. I hope you will enjoy many picnics in the month of August.

  20. I always enjoy your 'hodgepodge' responses. I like Rosella's suggestion of transporting you to the Stratford Festival to see Little Women. We saw 'The Sound of Music' there some years ago. Thankful you have a sister who is a nurse. I too had a sister who was a nurse. It is almost two years since she passed and I miss her dearly. Enjoy the picnics...one, two and three!

  21. Vee, These responses are always so interesting to read, even though I am not a participant. Yes, to watermelon and for being a resister. Unfortunately, my lone sibling is a brother and have often thought how nice it would have been to have a sister as well. Nice to read about the special bond you have with your sister.

  22. Hi Vee~ I love these, Hodge Podge posts, you sure can find out about a person by reading them. I have two sisters, I am a resister (for many reasons), I love watermelon and the movie that came to mind was, White Christmas. Thank you for visiting my little space here in blogland...I always love to see you've been there ;0) Hugs, Barb

  23. Hi Vee,

I'm sorry I'm so late visiting and commenting on this; I've been away from the blog for a bit. I love this post -- it made me laugh out loud a bit. Love that you answered "resister" and I completely agree with your sentiments on that subject. I would like to know about throwing sand in the mechanism -- that could come in handy sometime. ;) "Little Women" was one of my favorite books growing up, but believe it or not, I've never seen any of the movies.

Take care, Vee, and have a great week!

    Warm hugs,

    Denise at Forest Manor
