Procrastinating

Not sure if procrastination is a problem for you, but it certainly is with me. I can procrastinate for hours, days, weeks, even years. I am not proud of it. I am just being honest with you.

As you know, I am "supposed" to be decluttering. I have done some decluttering, but that was boring as all get out.

So I turned my attention to projects. This old window style mirror, a Wal*Mart purchase for $7 in the 1990s has been a lot of fun in the garden. If it breaks, I don't care. Well maybe a little bit...

It used to hang on the side of the barn a few years ago. You can see that here. Now it is disguising the mess I made power washing the fence. I also repainted the potting bench that John made me some years ago. It was looking pretty scruffy as you can see below.

Hope that you enjoyed a lovely Independence Day or Canada Day, if you live in North America. My family gathered at my son's home poolside. Most swam, but Michelle and I sat on the deck and chatted. Then we abandoned the deck and the outdoors for air conditioning...ahhhh... And we'll get to do it all over again when we gather at my sister's on Sunday for a family BBQ and another 4th of July celebration even if it'll be the 8th. 😉

It's been so warm, though not topping 100°F, that all my flowers are drooping by afternoon. My mission today is to find them some filtered light. Even though well watered, they seem to be as miserable as I am. I am not complaining. Really, I am not. I don't have to shovel snow and that is a great blessing.

Leaving you with a photo of my "mirror ball" petunia. They are so uniquely marked. You can see what I was describing above...the slight wilt to the blossoms by afternoon.

Off to get my chores done before the heat truly sets in...

Thank you so much for all those wonderful tips on my last post. They were fabulous!

  1. Vee, you are doing a great job... call it declutter or just reorganizing. Who cares!! Right. Love your pictures and your stories.

  2. I love old fashioned petunias and this one has a beautiful purple bloom! I woke up feeling the need to declutter so I really should be reading your comments in the other post! heehee! Our high has been about 90 every day this week. Hugs!

  3. You can always declutter later - I like your projects. Love the mirror/window. I was trying to get gunk off my cabinet (left by a previous owner) and scrubbed thru the wood! My "fix" was a pretty calendar hanging over the spot! lol That petunia is fun....love that! I love your potting bench. I recently re-painted an old wicker bench and like it so much better. Very hot here and lots of thunderstorms. Mostly staying in the a/c. Glad you had a nice get together and one more to look forward to. xo

  4. Procrastinating looks productive in this post. I like mirrors in the garden, and if they hide something you'd rather not look at, all the better. What a pretty petunia! Heat? What's that? We're having a cooler than normal summer - lots of clouds and light sweater weather for me. I'm hoping things heat up a little bit soon.
Enjoy your second 4th of July celebration.

procrastination? oh yes. it's my second middle name.
i keep telling myself .. attempting to convince myself

    i procrastinate. no idea why.

  6. Love your potting table and I love the chippy look. Girl, the older I get the more that I can put off stuff with the best of the them! LOL! I am to that stage of life that if it suits me then oh well! It has been so hot here too. Then when it rains it leaves things so humid. No need to spray that hair with hair spray cause it droops as soon as I walk out the door. But....that is the life in Florida. Ha! Hope you have a great weekend Vee. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

    1. I dispatched the chippy look..it was chippying all over the lawn...yuck. Powerwashed it and then painted it with two coats of exterior white paint. This week, Maine has been hotter than Florida...now that’s rare! Thanks for popping in!

  7. Vee, your "mirror ball" petunia is lovely and a new one to me! I like the mirror on the fence. The yellow really pops along with your pots on the potting bench. Sounds like a nice celebration with your family. You'll find me in the A/C any chance I get, too. Have fun at your sister's. Maybe it will be cooler then. ♥

  8. Waving at you Vee, with fan in hand! We are in the midst of this same extreme heat wave. It’s 42Celsius right now, that’s 107 F. Whew! I am sooo grateful for our heat pump which we reverse in the summer for cool air. I am happy to stay indoors where it’s cool, on days this hot. I have lots of decluttering I could be doing, but I’m a great procrastinator too....
Love your mirror ball petunia, such pretty markings. I’d be wilted too, if I was out in this heat!
Hang in there... sadly before long we’ll be complaining about the snow and cold weather.

  9. I’m excellent at procrastination!

Your petunia is really neat! Very unique. We’ve had heat and only a bit of rain here and there since the end of May. Had a real heat wave this past week with humidity. Poor Tim works outside, but at least he cools off on the drives to the inspections.

I like your mirror in the garden, I have one too, but it’s at the end of the hallway, since I try to capture as much light as possible in that dark space.

    Stay cool!

  10. That petunia sure is a beauty. I've never seen one like that.
Decluttering sounds like a winter project to me. I guess I'm a procrastinator too : )

  11. Love your potting bench. Your mirror ball petunia is new to me...very pretty! It has been in the 90's here the last few days...and we welcomed it after a long cool stretch. But now I must go water my flowers too!

  13. You know, I need a distraction (long story, another day, Vee)---too bad I don't live closer, I would come over and be nosy--I mean declutter for you, lol.

  14. Love the mirror there. That flower is so unusual! It has been in the high 80's here.

  15. With all that heat it's no wonder you don't have a lot of energy or will power. Be easy on yourself!

  16. Procrastination is probably my biggest vice!

I spent the 4th going to the doctor that morning and recovering on the sofa that afternoon. However, it was so very hot here that I didn't plan on doing anything, anyway.

My son and daughter-in-law went to a festival in the town where they now live and even they couldn't handle the heat. We are in a temporary cool down. I will take it! You know you are loved when I look at the screen to leave a comment. :)

  17. It's a bit cooler here and I love it! I think it may be cooler where you are, too. I keep on decluttering. Sometimes I put it off, but return to the task next day. I also have sentimental attachments to things from my mother, grandmother, and favorite Aunt. But I have a lot of my own things to eliminate before I have to make those decisions! Little by little and when it's too hot, I don't do anything.

  18. Vee...you always make me laugh. I love your words. and I am such a good procrastinator especially when it comes to blogging.. LOL

  19. I'be become a good procrastinator myself, Vee! I started reorganizing old photo albums into new, awhile ago, and they're still waiting on me. Oh well, one day....
I do love your pretty petunias. Enjoy your BBQ tomorrow!

  20. Oh man, I know what you mean...you and I could possibly just be the Procrastinator Twins...and yes, this heat has been ridiculous! We just returned from TN and even the mountain breezes were hot and humid. We had some nice rain while there and yesterday was just fabulous...and we arrived home this morning to 65 degrees...what a treat...it's absolutely beautiful today. What a stunning petunia...I've not seen or heard of that variety but it sure is pretty! Stay cool, my friend...and procrastinate on!! :)

  21. Summertime is to be enjoyed, so give yourself a decluttering break. We had a family barbecue the weekend before the 4th, as my kids and grandkids had holiday invites and plans. We spent the 4th quietly. We hiked in the morning, relaxed in the shade in the afternoon and watched fireworks on TV in the evening as our area has a fire ban on and there were no fireworks here. It has been hot and dry, dry and hot. WE always hope for a good rain!

  22. I can't believe that I have actually made progress in the procrastination arena. There are some things I just get to right away at this stage of life, but it's been a process of gradual coming to the conclusion I'd sooner work ahead than behind.

But I still have enough of those 'icky' projects that I can put off indefinitely. I finally started asking the good Lord for His grace for those projects and then waiting for His timing to do them. And I recognize that, because I wake up one morning and I feel a lightness about the project when I think of it. It's not as heavy as it was before. And I get to feeling that, yes, I can tackle this today. And even have a gladness of heart in it.

I'm with many of the other people who left comments that summertime is to be enjoyed. Maybe it's not the right timing yet. Alexandra Stoddard has said that she will do her creative, fun stuff first and then feel energized to get to the chores.

In the meantime, here's to enjoying that beautiful petunia and whatever else IS delighting your senses in your yard and home.

  23. Hi there Vee, yes I'm still here. :) I have peeked in a few times but haven't commented...the reason is mainly not wanting to offend anyone because I've not been blogging lately so therefore haven't been commenting or visiting.

I had to chime in and tell you that you are not alone in the procrastination dept. I am still trying to get decluttering done here. It's a big job and it only keeps my attention span for such short periods of time, because yes indeed it is boring. Very.

The weather here is hot, humid and dry. BG goes to work at 6 am during the hot months and when he got home today at 2:30 he said the temp gauge on his truck read 104 degrees. We are needing rain hugely and the grass has turned brown. We try to look at the bright side and say at least we don't have to mow so often, but I'm getting weary of lugging the hose around to do all the watering. BG says he doesn't know why I have to plant so many flowers, and I'm beginning to wonder why myself!

I'm hoping to get a blog post done before too long to catch up again and I'll share what I've been up to besides trying to stay cool and keep the flowers watered.

Take care and don't worry about the procrastinating. I can tell you that it happens to the very best people. :)

    xo Cheryl

  24. I have been procrastinating for several years now. I just can't get motivated at all. Glad you pushed yourself to work on some projects. We were 114 last week and still hitting 100 degrees almost everyday. This is not CA weather!!
