A Haven for Vee

What Comes After

Autumn has always been my favorite season and I know that many of those who read here share the enthusiasm; however, this year, I began to dread the mere thought of autumn. Because, with thoughts of pumpkins, apples, fires, leaves, and crisp, golden days comes the thought of what comes after. And what comes after has been so vile, so difficult, so obnoxious that the mere thought of it sends a chill up my spine. If I were speaking metaphorically, this may also have something to do with my growing older and now having definitely become old. (To those who wish to admonish me with the classic "you're only as old as you feel" line, I have felt old since I was six. Nothing particularly new here. ☺)

~Fryeburg Fair 2013~

I have been trying to think how to better survive what comes after. One must, after all, prepare well in advance. Ordinarily, this would mean preparing the pantry with comfort foods and making certain that the garage is winter functional...it isn't yet...and buttoning up the house. Then some new bedding might be in order and a way to avoid having to go out.

When my hometown family went to New Brunswick for a week and I began to look after the grandkitties, I noticed that a whole lot of packages were arriving. I'd haul them inside and that was that until I had to question the number of them upon their return.

My daughter-in-law explained that she had had quite enough of schlepping when Wal*Mart had a perfectly lovely app and that she could order many of her favorite and needed items online and they would be delivered free for a purchase of so much...not that much either. So I asked "schlepping?" And she said, "You know, you have to drive to get to the store and you haul the item from the shelf and drag it all around the store with you and then you put it on the belt and put it back into your cart and then haul it out to your car and put it into your trunk and then you drag it home and haul it out of the trunk and into the house." She added that ordering online meant that all you did was drag it into your house.

Obviously, that eliminates a whole lot of schlepping. Well, when she put it that way, the light went on immediately.
💡💡💡
So I downloaded the app, set up  my account, and had a fine time receiving my packages without ANY schlepping until the day the delivery truck backed into my house.

Arrrrgh!

There went all my dreams of hunkering down until spring.

I need to remember this:

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Matthew 6:34

So it's back to schlepping for me. I have had zero success with my insurance, the delivery service employed by Wal*Mart or with Wal*Mart itself. Who knows the final chapter of this story... (Personally, I think I'm biting this one.)

The End

  1. What?? You have to be kidding...are they giving you a hard time about paying for it? How much damage? Oh...I'm so sorry this happened. Just when I thought there was going to be a happy ending after you got the app...would have been just perfect to keep you from getting out in that wintery mess! But, you are right...tomorrow will take care of itself. Sounds like you need a hug so here ya go {{{HUGGGGGG!!!}}} Feel any better? ♥

  2. Oh my goodness! I can hardly believe this. I have heard that Walmart is not easy to deal with. I stopped shopping with them over a year ago. I would not give up on delivery of things you need though. We use Target, Amazon, and others for the things we need because like you, I am old. I hope everything works out with the insurance companies.

  3. Oh my that is not good!! Ken orders lots of things on line but I still prefer holding and touching the things I want to buy.
Apples appear to be more than just keeping the doctor away. : )

  4. Wow Vee! Wal-Mart should certainly be responsible for the damages to your home. How ridiculous that they would do anything other! Be sure to take photos and have records of what exactly they need to repair. If they don't I'd hire a lawyer. He can take his fee after you have been paid- and I mean paid well! Keep us up to date. ♥

  5. Be very careful using the Walmart app or Walmart.com- I have had my debit card used for purchases I did not make twice and twice I've had to file a police report and get a new debit card. The first time it was through Walmart.com and I thought the app would be safer but the second time it was through my app. Lesson finally learned and I avoid both.

  6. Oh my! I am sorry about what happened and shame on the delivery company and Walmart for not being responsive. I hope you are able to figure out a solution so you can hunker down for the winter. Thinking of you!

  7. I've thought about ordering online from Walmart. That might seem weird considering my local Walmart is across the street from where I live. Going there is a hassle nevertheless. I've come to disdain shopping.

  8. Doggone it, can my friend Vee get herself a break, please?

Meh. I am frowning for you. And sending hugs and prayers up for ya.

Hrmph! I have no proper words but that sound!

  9. Oh, my goodness! I'll not be ordering anything from Walmart. I get some of my girlfriends together and we hit the Wall of Mart as a group.... and giggle all the way. Hope you can get some justice from insurance. I just hate paying for insurance when I know it is always a hassle. Someone is making a lot of money and it isn't us!

  10. 🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂 To further clarify...

Wal*Mart is only responsible for their product. I still shop there.
My insurance deductible is above the cost of damages.
My complaint is with the deliverer and it is a classic case of she said they did and they say they didn’t.

  11. Uggghh. I hate those situations when it seems all the answers are wrong ones. Those are the times when we have to trust our care to the Father. (Not that we don't need to trust Him when everything is peachy keen as well!) Praying for you that you get some resolution in one way or another!! {{hugs}}

  12. Oh my goodness... that's awful. It would seem to me that WM would be held accountable for this. Was it a company like UPS or FedEx doing the delivering?

  13. Unbelievable! Do you or any of your neighbors have security camera or any kind of footage like that, that would show it happening? Did you get any pictures with the truck still backed into your house? Those things are so helpful to get companies to admit that they did wrong when it’s on film. I’ll be praying that everything would work out and that it would all be covered and that you can get your house repaired quickly.

  14. Oh no, Vee! I would think it would be pretty clear that the truck hit your house! Praying for resolution, and for you to get your house repaired before "what comes after" arrives.

  15. Oh how horrible for you! I will say our Walmart is great and I do order from them. It sounds like it's going to just take alot of patience and demanding results. I am so sorry you must deal with this....I hope they do the right thing asap!

  16. Ooooooo Vee...I had high hopes until the end of the story! Oh dear Vee, I'm so sorry about the truck backing into your house. I hope resolution comes soon. Please let us know. Love and God bless!

  17. Thank you for that beautiful scripture. We all need to be reminded, from time to time.

Sorry to hear the trouble you are having with Walmart. We've had issues with deliveries from other places, as well. It just depends on how honest the delivery driver is. One even stole an item from one of my packages. I was refunded, but it was a hassle making the claim, etc.. I totally relate.

I'll be thinking of you. Blessings on your day, Net

  19. That's terrible. I sure hope that it all get taken care of soon. I've thought about having things delivered to the house but I also feel that getting into the care and shopping is pretty much the only exercise I get.

  20. Oh no! I am so sorry Vee. I truly hope the end of the story is GOOD!

Loved the information about the apples and I must say I learned quite a bit. Thanks for sharing. Hugs to you!

  21. Oh dear Vee, I am so sorry you are dealing with such a mess! Lord have mercy! I am so disappointed in Walmart right now after reading this. I will pray for you dear lady. Lord yes...tomorrow is a brand new day. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  22. So sorry to hear about this, too, Vee!😯

I also had high hopes, thinking this would be a great way to avoid going out to shop in bad weather. Maybe not. Sure hope everything gets resolved with the damage to your house.

  23. Oh, Vee! This is terrible......But I hope it is all resolved in a satisfactory way and fairly quickly.

  24. What??? Yikes. That is the first time I have heard of such an experience. Out here parcels disappear from doorsteps on occasion. Hopefully you get this sorted out satisfactorily...before winter sets in! May you have a wonderful today...and a bright tomorrow!!!

  25. How awful for you, Vee! I'm so sorry. I wish you could leave it all behind and come winter over here, ours is so mild, we never have snow and count ourselves lucky if we have rain. Amalia

  26. I can't believe Walmart won't make this right! An Amazon truck destroyed our lawn once when the driver drove over our lawn and they paid us to have it repaired. I feel the same dread when fall comes around.

  27. I somehow missed this post...probably was in the dentist chair and when I got home, I went straight to bed. :(
I love ordering things on line...only if shipping is free (which I am sure the shipping cost is added into the price of the things I order..) It is so nice to have someone bring it right to my doorstep. In fact, I love it so much, I have almost all of my Christmas shopping done....

  28. Oh my gosh--the delivery truck backed into your house??? I do not like to order or buy from Walmart or Sam's Club as they are not very accommodating about returns. My local supermarket delivers and of course there is alway Amazon for other items. I am actually hoping for a lot of snow this winter, even if I don't like to drive in it. We have a drought and need it. I hope, meanwhile, that your winter will ne mild.

  29. Don'r bite it, fight it, Wal-Mart is responsible for this! With so much hacking, I haven't gotten comfortable with shopping on line, call it an age thing. ~smile~
