A Haven for Vee

Bittersweet

That's how the weekend went...

What began in bike rides, walks, and Hide 'n Seek games all Saturday afternoon ended with my grandson's breaking his leg again Saturday evening. (You may remember that he first broke it last March.) Sometimes life is just plain hard. The very thing that was supposed to be the cure turned out to be the cause this time. One of the screws that was used to put the first break back together caused the second break — nearly all the way through the bone and just below the old break. I certainly hope that those doctors know what they're doing. (Sometimes a gal has her doubts.) This time they've used shorter screws and more of them.

For years the pastor used to preach an ongoing message about how everyone is connected in the Body of Christ. I can tell you what you already know, when one person in the family is hurting, the entire family is hurting. Poor little brother is so somber and sad. He couldn't give it words, but agreed with ours..."You are sad that Sam broke his leg" and he whispered, "again." Sigh.

So the little guy and his family start over from scratch. Did I already say that sometimes life is hard? Yes, oh yes, we appreciate any and all prayers on his behalf.

  3. So true. And so sad about a second break! Since it was the doctor's fault, I certainly hope he didn't send a bill for charges. Honestly! Hope he recovers soon. I wonder if trouble with that leg will follow him around life.

  13. Oh, I'll pray! Poor guy!

We had a young friend injure his eye yesterday playing frisbee - he took a direct hit in the eye. They are at a specialist this morning!

He's going to be out of school for a while then too, isn't he? Well, he'll get a longer Thanksgiving holiday from school.

  16. -sigh- What words can help? None really.

I'm a Nana who has had "Grands" break bones. But never had a bone re-broken, by what the doctors did, to fix it, the first time.

And I would be banging my head against a wall. So as not to bang it against said doctors.

    Gentle hugs,
    "Auntie"

  21. Oh yes, life is hard. Even when the blessings abound, life is hard. How good that we are sojourners...

I am so sorry to hear about your dear grand's re-break. So sad for everyone. I love what Podso said about God using it. Oh, there is so very much that we don't understand. No wonder we need to trust Him who is all wise and good.

And your words about the Body hurting when a member hurts? So true. I am moved by his little brother's pain. I am hurting with you today.

  32. Poor little guy. Being a mom/gmom to boys is just a teensy bit harder, I think, since they are much more active. I hope they set it right this time and he heals quickly. Will be keeping all of you in my prayers. xo

  35. Football is such a rough sport. I had a friend, in high school, that succumbed to a compound fracture of his left arm and never played again. I do love the photo of bittersweet--it goes well with the apron I posted as the give-away this month for my memory of cutting branches with our daughter Kelly for Thanksgiving. I wish I could turn back time, XOXO

  36. OH my goodness..poor baby! My daughter works on a Orthopedic surgical team, she is an OR Tech.
I will pray for Sam. I agree not again. Its so hard to keep a boy down, they are so active. But with such a great brother I am sure these two will keep each other busy and find fun ways to play (boys are so sweet.)
Sending love and big hugs, Elizabeth

  51. Oh no.

And you are so right about the pain and hurt of one member of the family being felt by all, whether it is a physical pain or one of a different sort. I hate it for him that it was the pins that caused this "re do".

Lifting you ALL up for strength and for a second recovery that goes by faster than you can imagine.

  52. So sorry for the pain your grandson is experiencing! My son broke his leg (tibia & fibula) in a trampoline accident when he was 11 yrs. old. He was so afraid that we all took turns sleeping on a cot in his room for 2 weeks. He had to have PT to learn how to use crutches and was in a cast for almost 6 months. He also has 8 screws and a titanium plate in his arm--did I say he is accident prone?
Praying for a complete healing with no complications! Please keep us posted on his progress.

  57. awwww, so sorry. I will sure pray for him, Vee...thank you for telling us about it so that we CAN pray for him. If we aren't told about these things, we don't know to pray.
    Like Blondie suggested..ICE CREAM...

When my boy was riding bulls in college rodeos, he broke his arm. After months of not riding and doing just what the doctor said, he rode again when the doctor said YOU ARE HEALED...and, yep.....
broke it again, in the very same place. It just wasn't healed, I guess.

  58. You are so right about the entire family hurting. That is why our hearts ache for the atrocities all over the world that are being committed against our brothers and sisters in Christ. Prayer going up for the second break situation. Thank goodness he is young and will heal.
