It was a drippy 4th. The best part about it was spending time puttering and reading. We started the day by reading the Declaration of Independence. Amazing document. Amazing signers of said document who mutually pledged to each other their Lives, their Fortunes and their sacred Honor. It cost them dearly.
My daughter thought that I needed a new umbrella so she brought one over. She said, "I hope that you like the color rust." I do. Yes, I can't imagine a color that would be more complementary to all the green around here, and
pick up those Boleros. Ha! Sneaked them in again.
So today we have Plan B, but since it is still raining, I think we may move on to Plan C or perhaps we'll just toss our hands in the air and say that the 4th of July was not to be this year.
How'd it go in your corner?
I love your new umbrella, I have a plain brown one. We have our fireworks tonight and it's supposed to rain :(
ReplyDeleteSorry you are being rained out! Love the tie in to the Boleros! It is a lovely umbrella.
ReplyDeleteI am going to post a few photos from yesterday, soon. Mostly what I did for a table cloth and fireworks. I didn't take other photos.
Deanna
Your new umbrella is perfect! I hope the sun comes out today and tomorrow and you have a fun weekend. It was gorgeous here yesterday....in the 80s. So we went on a hike in the morning and goofed off after that. I love summer time weather. I think I'll sew some today. Sweet hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteAfter reading many posts from my US blogging sisters, Glenn and I had a discussion about your 4th July celebrations vs our Canadian July 1. Totally different reasons for each date of course and I am always impressed by how you all decorate and give thanks. In 3 years on July 1 we will celebrate 150 years of being an independent country, guess we're infants compared to the age and history of the US. :-)
ReplyDeleteI noticed the umbrella right away and like the bright and pretty colour, perhaps your daughter had it in mind to coordinate with the boleros?
Good Morning, Vee. Another very hot day in Georgia, so we stayed in the house for the most part. Late afternoon, we helped a neighbor lady put up a flag holder. She treated us to navy beans and hot out of the oven cornbread - it was delicious!
ReplyDeleteYour new umbrella is perfect with the boleros! Enjoy your day!
What a lovely umbrella. The colors are just perfect, so cheerful and such a great contrast. What a nice gift from your daughter! We also read the Declaration of Independence, and later looked at brief biographies of some of signers. Fascinating. (Someday I would love to read the correspondence between John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. I wonder whether it has been published) I hope your rain stops soon.
ReplyDeleteWwe had drippy hiot and humid rain all weekk leading UP to the weekend, but God has granted us the nearly never heard of PERFECT WEATHER for two days now. Seriously this is heavenly - cloudless, bright blue skies, low humidity in low 70s (my fav.) it's the perfect weather for outdoor tea and garden parties, but alas it is a holiday weekend and there's stuff to be done.
ReplyDeleteBeen gardening - finally can get some done now that it isn't so hot or raining. Thinking of perhaps planting some Boleros. LOL, kidding, just had to let you know I think that is absolutely hilarious. Hubs treated me to such a wonderful steak dinner and a movie this weekend - we saw AMERICA in the new leather lounger dreamer theatre seats. Have you them there? They are wide super puffy comfy lazy boy loungers - talk about amazing comfort watching a movie, holy smokes, they're awesome. We have great theatres all around near us and they are competitive, clean, really bright, clear, great sound - they keep them really super up to the latest so viewing is a real treat. They even have competitive pricing, yay.
Back to your post - love love love your new umbrella. Your daughter nailed it - it looks great. she knows how much her Momma loves those flowers...................hugs.
Waiting for that movie to come to a theater near me! So want to see it!
DeleteAww..so sorry about your 4th! Here in in western NY, was only 65-68* and breezy, however, the heat and humidity are due back. We bbq'ed, went to the parade, then fireworks. Love your new umbrella. Blessings
ReplyDeleteSorry about the rain, but the umbrella is perfect~
ReplyDeleteWe had cool weather and a great evening of fireworks. I don't ever remember having cool weather on the 4th of July before.
Your new umbrella is lovely!
ReplyDeleteI am sorry that you had a rainy day. It was beautiful here!
Your new umbrella is the perfect color to compliment your flowers. We had lovely weather is in our part of NC...a bit windy and cooler from the storm on the coast. Hope you weather dries out soon.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry to hear about your rainy 4th. Although the new umbrella sure does help to brighten the landscape. As for the boleros, I say get all the mileage you want out of them... they are deserving and compliment the umbrella perfectly.
ReplyDeleteI'm a bit hesitant to tell you that our 4th was absolutely gorgeous. The humidity hit the road, which is practically unheard of in these parts in July. In fact it was almost jacket weather during the fireworks.
Last year, however, was a complete rain out. The fireworks had to be cancelled. Hopefully next year will bring better weather for you too.
Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
The rain sounds so nice and refreshing - we could us some over here in the mountains. And your umbrella looks perfect among all the green :) Good choice!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby, son, and I went mini golfing, had lunch at an old-fashioned drive-in burger stand, went shopping, enjoyed a long walk, and watched the town's fireworks from our roof - it was lovely :) Hugs to you!
You have a great new umbrella and a very thoughtful daughter! Sorry it's raining on your parade. Our plans yesterday were amended because of the storm, although we had some lovely weather later in the day.
ReplyDeleteThose flowers are "the bee's knees"! Gorgeous and I would slip them in whenever too if I had them. So sorry about your 4th....it was gorgeous here and still not too hot or humid. So, I did what I thought was a very American thing to do on the 4th.........I mowed my lawn. LOL! I think there was a parade but I did not go and there were fireworks that I also did not attend. I listened to them going off while I knitted in bed and watched the weather channel! LOL! I had a great 4th of July...I gratefully had the freedom to do exactly as I pleased! LOL!
ReplyDeleteNice umbrella. It does compliment the lilies. I wish they grew here (zone 8).
ReplyDeleteI hope I didn't sound harsh the other day when we where chatting via e-mail. Wasn't meant to be. E-mails need to have smiley faces attached so one can see and hear the words are spoken gently.
After Hurricane Arthur breezed past, the temps dropped, the humidity lightened up, the sunset was stunning and it's NICE now! We took the Mule (Kawasaki brand UTV) out for a spin. The air was absolutely delicious. Wanted to scoop it up and eat it like ice cream. I took a bunch of pictures. What a blessing. We even mowed the entire acreage today it's so pleasant. Now I'm too pooped to pop and too old to stroll! *giggle*
Hope y'all have a sunny and happy rest of the weekend. ~:)
It was sunny and in the 70's, a perfect day to ....clean out the shed. Yes, we spent the holiday working, the kids are busy and we thought we would rather get a major project out of the way than figure out a fun weekend. Still, I'm so glad it's done, and we spent the day together puttering, one of my favorite things to do. It's sunny and in the 70's again today, but it was 50 degrees when we got up! Lest you think we have absolutely no idea how to have fun, we are planning a weekend away later when the crowds are all home from their big 4th of July fun:>) I think the umbrella looks lovely with all the green and it certainly does pick up the beautiful color of the lilies! Sweet daughter:>)
ReplyDeleteIt poured like crazy late afternoon, but quit raining in time for the various fireworks around town. I watched on PBS the Washington festivities and when that was over -- plus another 2 hours (!!!!), I watched Houston's downtown spectacular. They were 30 minutes late ... guess because of the rain and they had to get the paid entertainment in. Your new umbrella looks nice with the boleros.
ReplyDeleteI thought of all my American friends on the 4th!
ReplyDeleteSuch a pretty sun umbrella Vee, now I can picture you whiling away the afternoons sitting on your deck!
We're experiencing icy blasts in my little corner this weekend, it's a far cry from what I see at yours!
My the umbrella looks stunning, especially with your green and flowers. Very inviting. We had a wonderful time with my daughter and SIL's family. Kids laughing and playing in the pool. Adults eating, and sharing and enjoying each other. With the move, she is less than 15 minutes away, so we were home before dark, and the "fireworks" which our little Molly dog doesn't like!
ReplyDeleteNice umbrella. Very nice daughter. : )
ReplyDeleteWeather here sunny and cool.
I listened to Ronald Reagan on your post yesterday - great video!!
Love the new umbrella and it goes so well with your Bolero's! It's good to be flexible when it comes to ....well anything.
ReplyDeleteVee, That new umbrella does pick up the color of your flowers. I love it. Yes, some times our picnics are in the garage with fans. LOL. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteReading The Declaration of Independence on this holiday is a marvelous idea! Love the color of your umbrella. Thanks for sharing:)
ReplyDeleteWe had spritzing on the 4th but it stopped around 4 or 5 PM, and today it is glorious. Sunny, warm breeze, low humidity. I hope it travels up by you. And........ta da drum roll please, I will be visiting your state in August! Fingers crossed! xo
ReplyDeleteLove the cheery new umbrella! (And the boleros too...of course!). It's spitting a little over here right now...but nice and warm...with sunshine forecast for all of next week. Happy Plan C...or D! :)
ReplyDeleteOur weather was perfect! Not too hot & not too cool. Parade, water fun in our little pool, food, family & fireworks. The littles had so much fun. I loved seeing their delight with all the moments.
ReplyDeleteYour umbrella is so pretty! Sorry you had rainy weather yesterday.
Smiles,
Carol
I wouldn't mind a warm rainy 4th. Usally the weather is just so stinking hot that by all the "fun" outdoors things (Parades! Barbeques! Picnics!) have me ready to cry Uncle Sam by mid day and retreat to some nice A/C.
ReplyDeleteAt least you can hold your head up and say the rain drove you inside.
Something I thought was funny: A teacher of a certain political bent made the news for saying the fireworks were too much like the sound of war and not an appropriate way to celebrate our country's birth. Shoot, I remember when in the olden days when the guy finally got the girl in the movie and went for the big smooch, the director cut away to fireworks to clue you in on what happened next. Guess the teacher would have been mystified by what those cinematic fireworks were all about!
Political correctness run amok. There's a new and more absurd example every day. They make me laugh.
DeleteWe had a quiet 4th! Puttered around the house.....read, cleaned, painted that potty pot of Louis Dean's. Still not in the triple digits here so we are grateful for that. We were invited to a few celebrations but we have an aversion to CROWDS in our old age. Actually I have aleays had that aversion!! I have been stuck in traffic THREE times with the latest being LAST YEAR and I have decided NOT to do this any more!!!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the nice jolt of color from the umbrella. Practical AND pretty! We've had some terrific weather lately - not too hot and humid.
ReplyDeleteI love your umbrella and it does match the boleros! Sorry you've had a soggy 4th - our weather has cleared and isn't quite so humid - perfect for gardening. I'm thinking we could use some rain over here again and I so need to do some "inside" work - eek!!!
ReplyDeleteHeard that it was raining in most parts of the States. Love that garden umbrella.
ReplyDeleteSorry about all the rain. The sun umbrella comes in handy at these times, too, doesn't it? Love the way the colour picks up the bolero lilies. We just returned from a 2 night camping trip. In the rain. With the family, including a 4 month-old, a 2 year old, and a 3 year old. Did we have fun? Yes, we did. Am I glad to be back in my quiet and dry home? Yes, I am.
ReplyDeleteSorry you got rain! Our day was sunny with not a drop in the sky. We still ate inside because the heat and bugs were typical here for this time of year. Then, we headed to the pool for some sunshine.
ReplyDeleteI want to tell you on this comment how much I LOVED the Reagan video in the previous one. Our pastor mentioned on Sunday that he had a video that he tried to show, but they were having technical difficulties. He mentioned that it featured President Reagan. I'll bet this is the one. I loved it. I brought me to tears.
Sometimes, I forget just what it was like living here back when he was at the helm. I think I took it for granted in so many ways. How far this mighty nation has fallen. Yet, I have friends who will look me dead in the eye and argue that the evil that is upon us now is good. There is simply no budging them. Their eyes will not see, and their ears will not hear.
I'm sorry you had such a rainy day for the 4th. But. I love your new umbrella. It's really cute with the border of flowers. And it complements the boleros. :) We got power back yesterday, lost it again today for 5 hours and back again. I think we're good now. We loaned our generator to friends who are still powerless.
