When I read the following quote, I thought how very true it has proved for me. For you, too? I tend to think of Christmas as the high day of the year and the years are archived in my mind by Christmas memories. This year was the one where the weather was so mild that we could play baseball wearing light jackets on a lawn with no snow.
Of course, we had our more Christmasy moments...
a special visit from my New York niece and my sister. This is Kea the gal who helped create those store windows mentioned back along.
Long-legged grandson discusses a baseball board game with his mom.
The not so usual moments when one grand became a present and my son did some... sword swallowing?
This book title was definitely news to John and me!
Monday, my grands made a date with us and, when they learned that their Auntie was coming by, they talked us into another baseball game. Their logic was spot on. "It will be the last time we can play baseball until spring comes!" (Tuesday we "welcomed" six inches of snow and ice so they were right!)
What a fine team of three!
An exciting game it was, too!
I would have done a Year in Review if I had posted more in 2015. Must remember this for future reference.
See you in the New Year!
P.S. I have not forgotten Who really holds everything together. Colossians 1: 16–20
What a fun Christmas you all had. I'm glad you all got in on the warm weather at least for a while. :-) Highly unusual for so far North.
ReplyDeleteIt was warm, sunny and mild on Christmas Day here as well. And the day after was even nicer. Now we also have snow and ice; probably about the same as you, maybe a little less. One Christmas Day that will always stand out in my mind is one when my daughter was home from college and she and my dad went skating on the mill pond. The weather was sunny but very cold and there was no snow.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a wonderful Christmas! Your home looks so warm and welcoming.
Happy New Year, Vee. Lovely family.....
ReplyDeleteThis def. has been a strange winter, for sure. Lovely videos and photos--thanks for the smiles. Many Happy New Year Blessings to you.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing the Christmas memories, Vee, seeing the kids play ball on Christmas Day brought back wonderful memories of our kids with their cousins! Oh how I would love to play ball again, but these ole' bones won't let me!~grin~
ReplyDeleteOur weather has been unusually wet and warm, it was 80 degrees on Christmas Day, and is still wet and warm!
As usual I am playing catchup..
The Christmas card exchange sounds like fun, sorry I missed that one , thanks for sharing the blog link! Like you I like to read before bed, and like you find sweet sleep! ~smile~
I have always wanted to visit New England, Oh well! maybe one day!
Wishing you and your family a most blessed and Happy New Year!
Love,
Sue
What fun Christmas family pics! I love the book title. I'm sure our grandsons have that book too. They're always talking about zombies. Lol. Your home looks so warm and inviting. Bet you've got Christmas snow now. :-) We got ours on Christmas Eve.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great time you all had, Vee. Lovely photo of your sister and niece with your pretty tree in the background. I enjoyed the videos of the grands playing baseball. Our family played bocce outside with the kids in shorts! Crazy weather with windows and doors open... Enjoy your snow with more seasonal temps. ♥
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful Christmas! Ours was too inspire of some sadness this year!
ReplyDeleteI can't believe you got 6" of snow after all that nice weather. We got 2" a couple days ago. I love snow!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about Christmas!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely time you had, and the weather! Craziness! Glad you got that last game in!
Happy New Year, friend, to you and John!
Deanna
Well I'm glad the kids were able to get out in fresh air and play some serious ball games before the snow arrived! Looks like you all had a fun time - and yes Christmas is always the most wonderful day of the year, every year!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Vee to all your family.
Mary -
Well I think it looked like you had a wonderful Christmas with your family!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Fun times you all had Vee. We have had NO winter in Florida yet! Happy New Year! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteWhat delightful photos. . .looks as if your Christmas was picture perfect!
ReplyDeleteCan't believe how tall your grandson must be now.
What was your son doing? Somehow sword swallowing doesn't sound like something he would do. Cute statement, though. :-)
Beats me and he doesn't even know. Ha!
DeleteI'm glad you finally got some seasonal weather, though a softball game on Christmas day will make a memory. You may not be glad about the weather. I think I agree with you that the year cycles around Christmas day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a sweet and special, most memorable Christmas, Vee!
ReplyDeleteHasn't this odd warm weather been weird? Our lilac bushes are budding. We've had the warm but the "cold snap" hasn't really been cold and never cooled enough to snow - so lots and lots and LOTS of rain............the world here is very confused. Wonder what spring will be like.
Mayyour New Year be filled with the blessings of good health, laughter, love & peace to you and yours. Hugs.
What fun memories of your warm Christmas, Vee! I guess your grands are right about no baseball until Spring with all the snow that now appeared. Happy New Year, Vee.
ReplyDeleteLoved the videos, especially the last one featuring a slide by one of the grands, tense moment. Loved the zombie book, I bet you or John didn't give it to them. The pics of your visitors and all the other tid bits you added to this post. Happy New Year.
ReplyDeleteThose long legged grands are so good-looking. Hope they don't really think of you as a zombie. Lovely photos of family time. Enjoy the snow (or can I say that?). Happy New Year, Vee and John.
ReplyDeleteBaseball at Christmas, did you ever think you'd see this? So nice to have the family around isn't it? Guess I'm becoming more sentimental with age and could care less about gifts.
ReplyDeleteI like the little clips you inserted, I should give this a try sometime as it adds another dimension to blogging.
It will be a quiet night New Year's Eve for us - haha, like every other year and that's just the way we grandparents like it.
Happy New Years to you and John.
What a great time you had! xx
ReplyDeleteWhat an absolutely lovely home and family you have Vee! Glad you had a good, and surprisingly warm Christmas day! Happy New Year love!
ReplyDeleteHi Vee!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quote . . . so true, I always think of, Christmas as a mile marker for the year, and like to think about all that's happened between each one. They seem to just wiz by so quickly!
I can hardly believe the difference between last winter and this winter on the East Coast! Your grass even looks like it's turning green! I would have loved a good game of baseball, or in my case, snowball, for Christmas this year! Loved your videos!
I thought it was so nice that you had your niece and your sister there for, Christmas, the more the merrier!
I sometimes feel like a zombie . . . just sayin' . . .
Isn't it funny what our camera captures sometimes?! I loved seeing all your pictures, it sure does my heart good to see happy families.
I hope you have a wonderful new year . . . reflecting on the last year, I think I will do a few, or a lot, of things different :0)
Hugs,
Barb
Great post! Just what will 2016 be-- Happy, full of tears, I can not believe what I hear and see???
ReplyDeleteHow fun...baseball on Christmas Day in New England! That probably won't happen again anytime soon! Hasn't this been the strangest weather? We had 80 degrees in the Smoky Mountains...what??? Nevertheless, it was a good time, all around! So now you have your snow! Send me some, will ya?? All we have is rain...and more rain....and more rain. I hope the New Year will find you blessed beyond measure!
ReplyDeleteHi Dearest Vee,
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to see you and your loved ones had such a nice Christmas!! We did at our house, as well. This weather has indeed been unbelievably mild -- we had to turn our a/c back on Christmas Eve. Personally, I prefer it to be colder at Christmas; I had to wear my spring/summer clothes to my parents' on Friday.
Your niece is indeed very talented to be chosen to dress the department store windows in NYC. Way to go!! I'm sure you must have really enjoyed seeing her and your sister. Your grandson's book cracked me up -- everything is zombies now, isn't it?
I also think of Christmas as the high day of the year, Vee. In recent years, I'm just so thankful that we still have all our family here together; I know it won't always be that way. Thanks so much for your visits, as I haven't been able to post or visit much myself. Also, your header looks terrific!! I'm glad you were finally able to change it out. Blogger can be very frustrating at times.
Love and Best Wishes to you through the rest of the Christmas season and in the coming New Year.
Hugs,
Denise at Forest Manor
We've had a warm Christmas and it is still warm!! People around here can never remember weather so mild for this time of year.
ReplyDeleteThe saying doesn't apply to me. I'm not really a holiday type person. Maybe because I've never had family around me during the holidays.
Also maybe because I really do enjoy every day. : )
Looks like a fun time was had by all.
ReplyDeleteMerle.......
Ha! I wasn't worried that you had forgotten who holds it all together. How nice to have a special visit! Good thing y'all agreed to play baseball before the snow finally arrived. Son and dil arrived home to 11 inches after their visit with us...
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Vee and John!
loved seeing your photos and your living room is just beautiful...is your whole house in the wooden walls and ceilings? So pretty.....
ReplyDeleteO, I could never do a Year Review...too many posts and waaay too much work for this lady "of a certain age". I keep trying my best to take a few weeks off from blogging but I keep thinking of things to share...whew...one of these days, tho...........
Your Christmas looks like a beautiful one with your loved ones. Hope your New Year is filled with many blessings.
ReplyDeleteBaseball, sword swallowing and zombie grandparents-definitely not a typical Christmas! But it sounds like a real memory making one, Vee.
ReplyDeleteHave a Happy New year with many blessing, I pray.
Kimberly
Loved seeing all your pictures!! Looked Picture Perfect to me!
ReplyDeleteCute cute blog! :D
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a great Christmas Vee. We spent our Christmas in Scotland. We went on a coach tour. Christmas Eve was very wet but the rest of the time was cloudy but dry. We had a great time. All the best for the New Year. Joan at www.aviewtothefells.com
ReplyDeleteHey Vee,
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year to you.....
Love,
Mona
Great quote and so true. The day after Christmas it seems like the old year is over and I'm ready to join the new year. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteMy kind of guys...playing ball while it is a possibility! It definitely doesn't look like you had your typical Christmas weather. We...on the other hand...had a white christmas and are still enjoying cold and sun (and a dusting of white). Quite lovely, actually. It looks like you had a nice family Christmas. Happy New Year...which you are getting close to ringing in! We still have a few hours to enjoy 2015. :)
ReplyDeleteI like those kids! What fun to play ball when the grass is green-ish. I wonder if now you will be white there until spring. I was so surprised to see your green Christmas. Wishing you and yours a most blessed new year.
