Time for the Hodge Podge

πŸ“πŸ“πŸ“

(no flag images for PCs?)

πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

1. The Hodgepodge lands on June 14th this week, Flag Day in the US of A. Do you fly your country's flag at home?

Yes. I do need a new one. John took care of that for me and even saved the box with all the pertinent information written on it so that I would know what he purchased.

Sometimes, often, or every single day?

Every single day

Have you ever visited the city of Brotherly Love (Philadelphia)?

Yes

Did you make a point of seeing The Betsy Ross House?

No, but I wish that I had.

Have you ever made a trip to Baltimore?

Yes

If so, was Fort McHenry on your itinerary? (where Francis Scott Key was inspired to write The Star Spangled Banner)

No, I was passing through downtown Baltimore on a Trailways bus that my dad was driving. As I recall, it was a miserably hot and humid day and everyone had the smell of humanity on them. I'm sure that Fort McHenry would have been more edifying.

2. Red flag or white flag? Which have you encountered most recently? Explain.

IF we are talking about a race, it would be a red flag. Somehow I have managed to put my back into a knot so am working to get it righted around so I can get back into the race.

3. Are you a stay in the car listen to the end of a song kind of person?

Depends on the song and the singer; I'd say usually not.

What kind of person is that?

Someone who has extra time on her hands?

4. What are some of the traits or qualities you think a good dad possesses?

Godly, gentle, gentlemanly, loving, yet firm covers it I think...

In other words, what makes a good dad?

⬆️

What's an expression you associate with your father?

dynamic

Edited to add: Okay, I see where I went wrong. I thought I had to choose an adjective to describe my father. Why? Who knows? I'll blame my back pain meds.

Trying again... My father had sooooo many expressions, but two come readily to mind: 1. Do you want to play ricochet romance off that wall? A kid better pay attention when that was asked. My niece, a wit at an early age, began responding with, "Yes, Grandpa, please." This would make him laugh every time and served to diffuse defuse the
situation. 2. You are softer than a wet sneaker filled with baby poo. (See, Joyce? I do know how to edit.) This was reserved for those times when my sister or I had done something especially dumb.

5. What's one rule you always disagreed with while growing up?

Girls do the dishes without being asked and immediately after meals are finished.

Is that rule somehow still part of your adult life?

Yes, though if there are boys in the family, they can help, too!

Is that a good or bad thing?

Good

6. Insert your own random thought here.

Lobster, corn on the cob, iced tea, and blueberry pie enjoyed with aunts and an uncle are very good things; wish that I had remembered my camera! ♥ Many thanks to my Maryland aunt and my Fryeburg aunt and uncle for a very pleasant evening.

The last time I had lobster was nearly two years ago on Abby's front lawn.

Thanks for reading today. You can join Joyce and her friends right HERE.

  1. My husband would have loved the lobster. One of his favorites. We fly the flag every day. We are in need of a new one, also. Sorry to read about your back and I hope you feel better soon. I know this Father's Day will be especially difficult for you. God bless you.

  9. It's looking very patriotic and summery here today, Vee. Love your new header and that lobster photo near the glass of iced tea is just wonderful. The menu for your recent family get together has my mouth watering.
So sorry to hear about your back. Ouch! I hope it won't be long before the pain subsides.
Your dad's expressions made me smile. Can't say I've ever heard those before.
I'm off to hang my flag now.

  10. Your dad had some great expressions! Mine said "Were you born in a barn?" if we left the door open when it should be closed.

How wonderful that you had sometime with your Aunts and Uncle. I'm sure it meant so much to all of you! What a feast!

  16. I think I've only had lobster two times in my whole life. I'll save the third time for if I ever get to the land of lobster in the years I have left. Sorry to hear about your back. Ugh. I'm having some wrist issues that are slowing me down. Hope the rest of the week goes well for you. Is that heat wave reaching your neck of the woods? We are suppose to have heavy rain again tomorrow. Love the new header!

  17. I just left an answer on another blog that also does this HodgePodge, and I guess I will give you a similar answer. Since I live in Philly you would think I'd see all the sights. Not so. Living here we seem to take them for granted. I saw Betsy Ross' House in grade school and then about 20 years ago as an adult. It's very interesting so if you get the chance, you should go. I've also been to Baltimore a lot and have been to Fort McHenry. Another interesting place worth visiting. Sounds like you had an awesome time with your family. That's the best.

I will be thinking of you and praying for you this weekend. I know for me it's hard and understand about others.

  18. Our flag is blowing in the wind right now. : )
The house we lived in just before this one was just 20 minutes or so out of Baltimore.

  19. What a beautiful lobster. I absolutely love a good lobster meal and you have the best! I'm so sorry to hear about your back, Vee. Do take care. Maybe a warm bath or heating pad. Or is your weather so you'd prefer an ice pack? ♥

  20. That lobster certainly looks good, you describe such an amazing meal with Aunts and Uncles. Sorry to hear about your back Vee, take care of yourself.

  21. I have never eaten a whole lobster nor had one on my plate to attempt it. I have had the tail which is heavenly but not brave enough to try the whole thing. It's been years since I've even had lobster tail.I love the way you described your father...it seems that he was hoot, like mine.

  29. Hi Vee,
Your dad sounds like a wonderful man and possibly witty, like you! So sorry to hear about your back pain. I can totally relate--wearing a neckbrace as we "speak". Injections next week....grrrr....that lobster looks soooo good. I have been thinking about lobsta for a while. Going to grab some soon! Corn too! Have a great day, its beautiful here so probably there too! xo

  30. One of the reasons I love visiting my daughter in New England is the fabulous seafood dinners. She wanted us to visit this Spring but I hadn't recovered enough from that dratted infection to attempt it. My dad died when I was a child but I have such wonderful memories that the title Father is a good one.

  31. Oh my goodness...what a handsome lobster. Lobster is rather foreign...and very expensive...over here. Smiling at your dad's expressions...and feeling sorry for you with your back issues right now.

  32. An interesting read, Vee. The lobster does look wonderful! As Judy has said, it's not common here and very pricey. I remember the lobster feast we had in PEI two summers ago. I hope your back issues are soon resolved and that you'll be moving better soon.

  33. Whenever I used to complain of a headache my father would say "it means you have a head". I always thought it the most annoying thing, but now I like it.
