Welcome to this year's Fall Nesting Party hosted by the incomparable Melissa of
The Inspired Room. I'm very happy that you are here!
Some points of disclosure: First of all, I'm not ready for fall. It's
not just turned chilly here. The leaves, usually already turning, are still vivid green. Second of all, it's raining. Raining and dark. Dark and dreary. My goal was to add some warmth and cozy without resorting to the usual autumn palette
or the furnace.
China Cabinet
All decorating in my home begins here. It's the first place for eyes to rest when anyone comes through the door. I'm working with browns, tarnished silver, inherited china, flea market finds, and my favorite poem:
The Road Not Taken by Robert Frost, which I popped into the apothecary jar. I think it would look especially cool with a page torn from a poetry book, but I'm not willing to tear up my Norton Anthology for that cause.
Poetry in an Apothecary Jar
There are few matching pieces, the bookend tea cups and the candlesticks notwithstanding. I'm a quilt kind of gal.
*Mosaic will enlarge
While I was busy taking photos, my hubby was outside working in the rain. At one point he came in looking like a drenched rat and requested hot tea.
You know what? Nothing speaks autumn-cozy like a cup of tea on a rainy day!
I'm looking forward to seeing all the wonderful things that you're doing once my busy morning of running errands is over.
A blessed and cozy autumn to you...
I really like the diversity of your pieces and where you placed them. Who ever thought old window frames would be so popular. I have them too. That poem is one of my favorites, and I don't blame you for not wanting to destroy a good book! Isn't a printer wonderful?
ReplyDeleteWe are needing some rain here. You have the jump on me in the decor dept. Very Fall-like!
Debbie
I really love the poem and what you have done with it. Great way to keep a favorite verse. With all your pretty china and the tea pot displayed I am ready for my own cup of Earl Grey with my cinnamon roll this morning since it actually feels like autumn here today.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend dear Vee!
Jen
Great job on your china cabinet, Vee. It makes a very warm welcome to your home. I love the platter with the flowers and polka dots. Putting a favorite poem into an apothecary jar is a great idea. I may have to borrow that one.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on the tea being autumn-cozy. Our temps went from 88 yesterday to 64 today. I'm looking forward to a cup of tea this afternoon.
As far as the pictures enlarging, I visited another blog this morning and had that happen when I tried to enlarge pictures. Grrr.
Beautiful fall welcoming post Vee. Your home looks cozy.
ReplyDeleteWhen I clicked on the mosaic to enlarge, I got a black screen with a small strip of your photos on the bottom. When I click on the photos they came up one at a time, but not any larger than in your post. Don't know why that happens...
Today is our first cool day. It is only 56 right now.
Hugs,
Penny
I love what you have done! So beautiful...
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to do some different things this Autumn too.
It rained here all day yesterday but cleared up in the early evening and was so beautiful out that Tim built a fire outside - so nice and chilly!
Those leaves are going to start changing today...I think I am going to keep saying this everyday! Either way we are going to have a wonderful trip! Can't wait!
Deanna
Beautiful fall post! And yes, my photos are doing the same thing and it took me forever to get my photos to my new post last night. Grrrrr!!! I also had some other problems which caused me to just abandon the post I was working on and start over. Grrrr!!! Okay, I'll quit growling now. But it's a big pain in the tush!
ReplyDeleteI'm a quilt kind of gal, too, and we certainly needed one the last two nights. It has turned off very chilly and today it's cloudy and dreary as well as chilly. A cup of tea sounds pretty good right now.
Vee,
ReplyDeleteI love your subtle approach to your fall decorating. I may have to do this myself since I've discovered my fall stuff is far in the back of my shed!
I especially love your cups hanging from the wooden window frame. I've never seen this before. Great idea!
Hope you have a great weekend!
And a cozy nest you have over there...the perfect 'haven' from the rain.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all....my favorite poem also, and the motto of my life
ReplyDeleteLove your look...how inspiring. I haven't thought of decorating with our hot temps...it will be awhile, but you have given me some new ideas
Your home is very welcoming!
You cold hire out your decorating services... Seasonal Mantels by Vee! I LOVE the teacups hanging by pretty ribbons in the window frame... and The Road Less Taken featured in the Apothecary jars. You have a gift.
ReplyDeleteI haven't ventured into the world of mosaics yet so... I know nothing about Blogger's treatment of them.
Enjoy your day, and your wonderful new 'look'!
Blessings, Debbie
It looks absolutely lovely Vee. So warm and cozy-you've got a talent for decorating!
ReplyDeleteIt's cold here today. Only 4 degrees this morning! Nice and sunny though. :)
((Hugs))
Laura
I love your style Vee! What a welcoming place to rest your eyes on a rainy day. I like that you put your favorite poem in the jar. Very creative! Have a cozy day!
ReplyDeleteGorgeoussness!!!! I love the cozy feeling of how all of your pretty pieces fit together. Can I come over and hang out at your home? It is just lovely!
ReplyDeleteHaven't had that problem with blogger...but then again, I haven't had much time to blog lately. They seem to always change things up to rattle us, huh?
Love you!
xxoo
I feel cozy just looking at your photos Vee. And that poem was always my favorite, too. Tony bought me an old, old book of Robert Frost poems for a surprise a few years ago...
ReplyDeleteI'm starting to think about fall. Walmart had huge pumpkins yesterday and I bought one. I brought one of my old washtubs out to the front porch and am trying to figure out what to do with it. I'm thinking mums, may ornamental kale, hmmmm... I still wanna figure out how to do mosaics...
Your home looks so warm and inviting - I love the idea of the poem in the jar! How very clever you are missy!
ReplyDeleteHope John didn't get too cold or too wet to enjoy his spot 'o tea..take care and have a wonderful fall(ish) weekend!
Beautiful...love all the plates. Yes, I see the new way of seeing the photos...grrr...quit changing things is what I say!!
ReplyDeleteLovely autumn decorating...I just set up mine earlier this week. I like your tea cozy and cups! :)
ReplyDeleteEverything is still green here in the Northwest, but there is a bit of a chill in the mornings and evenings...fall will be here soon.
Blessings!
~Nadine
Your mantle is beautiful, I love the poem in the jar (brilliant) and the tea cups tied with ribbon, and the muted tones, lovely. I did one mosaic way back and don't remember how I did it, I really need another lesson. I think I used Picnik. Everything is still green here, also. xo
ReplyDeleteHi Vee, I love your mantel look! You have some very pretty dishes and I love how you hung teacups from the old window frame! And yes, there's nothing like a cup of hot tea on a cool fall day. Have a great weekend. Blessings, Pamela
ReplyDeleteI love your pretty touches of Fall! I'm trying to add a few here in Florida...and I have to admit to drinking a cup of ICED tea right now! It's 90 degrees here though! ♥
ReplyDeleteAhhhhh, fall nesting. Yes, Vee dear, we all seem to be doing some feathering of our nests right now as the swing of the season progresses.
ReplyDeleteLove the poem in the apothecary. Love tea ALL the time and especially on a cold, dreary day.
A warm weekend for you and your sweetie,
Sharon
That looks lovely...all of it. I was totally taken with the poem in the apothecary jar. The tea looks great too.
ReplyDeleteI lit candles this morning and thought that finally it was a day worthy of candle lighting...not one that makes the A/C work harder. LOL
Great minds...I spent yesterday switching little things around to autumn tones. My buffet and hutch which were made by my father are where the seasons change first in my house. It's nice to rotate beautiful old treasures. I think it makes a person appreciate them more. Enjoy your week and good luck with blogging...
ReplyDeleteSo nice!! Sorry about the rain. Sunny & nice, not to hot, here in Alabama (well..was, it is dark now, lolol.)Blessings
ReplyDeleteI'm loving the cooler weather these days! And you sure have gotten in the mood to make a tea cozy, LOL. I got my fall decorating done today. Hubby found my decorations in the storage room. GAH, I am going to have to go through that room sometime and clean things out.
ReplyDeleteI use flickr links for my photos almost all the time now, so I didn't know that blogger was doing that with the enlargements. Don't you love how they constantly surprise us? Not!
Hello Vee
ReplyDeleteYour place is looking cozy with all the autumn decor and the teacups look adorable hanging in the panes.
I've had a font issue and yes, the same photo thing happening. Always surprises from Blogger!
Judith
I'm hoping to start finding fall this weekend. The weather has finally cooled down enough to put me in the mood, that and the nice warm cup of tea you're talking about!
ReplyDeleteI always love looking at your pictures. I feel like I have stepped into a warm and welcoming environment. thanks.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Vee! It's finally consistently cool so I feel like it's fall (which is my favorite season).
ReplyDeleteI'm still in shock that autumn is upon us! I always seems to happen so suddenly but when I have to start wearing socks to bed, I know it's here ;) Beautiful vignettes and I'd love a cup of tea.
ReplyDeleteLovely post Vee, the beautiful delph is just perfect, makes for the best tea party, and I hope the rain did stop, we had so much today, both Mr. Margie and I were also likened to drowned rats when we took the dogs for a walk in the woods, the heavens opened and tons of rain fell on us. the Fungi popped out in the hundreds when the sun came out again. Big hugs, Margie.
ReplyDeleteYour hutch looks very pretty, Vee. The poem in the jar is such a nice, meaningful touch.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the chilly air this weekend -- it felt very invigorating! I stopped drinking tea this summer, as it was just too hot, but I am back to having my evening cup of herbal tea.
Your blog is always warm and cozy, I love it, a feeling of being at home! It was raining and dreary here this morning as well. It blew away to a brighter, not sunny but brighter day. As far as blogger, I accept it as a part of life, ever changing. I've live with knowing that protesting the changing of life doesn't work, accepting it and moving on, letting it go does. It is what it is....
ReplyDeleteVee, you have the coziest home a true "Haven for Vee and John," I would so love to sit and have a cup or two of tea with you.
ReplyDeleteYes blogger has once again made our lives maddening. I absolute don't like this new feature. It seems to me they are bored!
Hope you got your door painted yesterday! looking forward to seeing the results.
Thanks for always brightening my day.
hugs,
Sue
We've also had our first taste of cooler weather here in my neck of the woods.
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking I should break out my Fall box, your beautiful display is the inspiration I was looking for :)
Your little spot hear is always so warm and inviting, I just love it.
Nooo, I don't think this has happened over at my blog. Another thing I noticed here today..your photos are loading really slow. ?
ReplyDeleteCan't figure it all out..Blogger does have problems every now and then.
Love your fallish, cozy home. I have not come close to decorating for fall.Well, I have taken all the spring and summer flowers away and brought out fallish ones but..that's it.
I sure like that MR. and MRS. cups you have back there. :)
Very weird the stripy thing with the photo's. Vee you are an amazingly creative gal. You take mostly what you have and reinvent it or repurpose...a term I heard over and over again at the Farm Chicks thing in Spokane. Matchy Matchy is so out of style now, so your quilted eclectic look is very in style especially because you really have an eye and it looks right to me every time.
ReplyDeleteI am inspired to go through some of my old stuff and rethink it. It has been easy to buy new...but I really like this trend of repurposing.
A hot cup of tea on a hot summer's day is the best too.
ReplyDeleteI do not like the slide show when clicking on photos either. I have told blogger. I prefer to see one photo at a time full screen.
