A Haven for Vee

Touching Base

Golly, I sure don't check in too often these days. I'm leaving a crumb trail for you. ッ  Can't blame Instagram as I am as scarce there as I am here. And I apologize for not being as faithful to read and comment at your place either. I do read more than I comment. (Lame excuse that.)

I think that I promised a post about John, which I can't seem to pull together. I did find a couple of notes last week as I went through several more piles of stuff. You may remember these are written on little scraps and interspersed with his personal papers. I'd hate to lose them for these little notes are the gold dust in all the debris.

↕Found last week going through papers...↕

The notes seem to hit me where I live these days.

Moving right along...

Loved having my Etsy order arrive some time ago now. These are from Judy's shop and the cards are so nice. I love having cards on hand and these work equally well for both women and men.

I hope that you print up your best photography for note cards. Sometimes I do...it makes for a wonderful personal touch.

I wouldn't want to use this one, but it does show one of the rare sunset scenes from my little holler. We have been enjoying a few days of delightful June weather.

This is my grands' new home. Things are moving fast and changing for them, but not too drastically. This home is just a few doors above their current, soon-to-be former, home — same street, same side of street. I teased my son that he was closer to work now and the boys will be closer to school. My son and daughter-in-law met all their criteria with this property except one, which is that the yard is not quite as large as they would have liked. It is good to see how God has helped with all of the concerns. Everyone is very happy with the turn of events. I am thrilled that they will still be here in town. For a while, it felt as if I was going to be the last family member here.

And that is all that I have for you today... A happy one to you!

  1. You must be thrilled to hear the family are not moving too far away. Such treasured little notes. What an inspiration you are I had never thought about getting photos made into cards, I will certainly be looking into that.

  2. Oh Vee, I always love your posts - they are worth waiting for!
John scattered these especially for you to find I'm sure - what tiny treasures - and I know you will save them in a special box perhaps.
Regarding cards, how I miss that lovely time when you hosted the monthly note card party - back in 2013/14. That was always my favorite way of displaying photos and planning perhaps to have cards printed up - I've done a few and should do more as I really despise paying such high prices for store bought cards!
Lovely to think the family moved such a short distance, and such a delightful New England style house. Know how important it is for you to have them close by. All they have to do is change their house number. . . . . . . and remember to turn into the right driveway of course!

Thanks for always stopping by, I love your comments.

  3. Good Morning, Vee. So sweet to find the notes from John. You should have them transferred to material, like a towel or apron. I've seen folks do that with a handwritten recipe card. I adore your children's new home and I'm thankful it's not far! God bless you. xo

    1. What a wonderful idea, Mildred! I have seen the recipe cards transferred to dish towels and yes, an apron too, I think. That would be a perfect thing to do with some of John's wise notes to keep them always in view or at hand.

  4. I LOVE THAT HOUSE!!!!!!! (sorry for shouting)---Vee, heed John's written words, just saying.

    Bene keeping you in prayer...smiles

  5. What a blessing that the grands and their parents will still be close by and in the same neighborhood! No huge adjustments for anyone ... just getting used to a different house and yard.

Judy's note cards are beautiful. I always enjoy her photos of barns.

Love John's notes! Notes my hubby leaves around are nothing like that; more like measurements of lumber he needs for a project or the cell phone numbers of chip truck drivers. John's are so precious and well worth saving in a special place -- maybe even transferring to fabric as Mildred suggests above. And it's so wonderful how those you recently found are exactly what you needed to read right now. God is so, so good!

  6. It must give you comfort to find the sweet notes that John felt inspired to write. I am so happy your family is going to be close to you still.

  8. Loved the notes. Precious, precious, precious.
I take lots of pictures of Louis Dean. Someday they may be important to me as well as remembering all the little phrases he uses. He and I both are continually looking for something. Maybe we JUST HAD IT in our hand....but I notice he says "There it is!!!" a lot! I love Louis Dean's voice and I think I will record him more often.
I love you, Vee. Prayers for you during this difficult month....and always.

  9. I seem to spend lass and less time on social media and certainly my blog has suffered. I can't complain though, the yard and garden are calling and I have a lot of real living to do, and that is the way it should be! I'm always glad to catch a post from you even if I don't see it right away. We still manage to catch up with each other when we do take time to post :) What sweet treasures those handwritten little notes of John's must be for you. I am glad you are finding them. Your son and daughter in law's new house looks adorable!

  10. Thanks for the reminder to make note cards out of our photos. I used to do that and somewhere along the way, I forgot. You are so right -- that art makes for more personal communication. And it's certainly original.

Also, I have to comment on the charm of New England houses. Just love them.

Not to worry about not blogging or commenting much. Life. It just takes time! Blessings to you, dear friend.

  11. And one my thing. The definition of depression as anger turned inward. Not sure I've heard that exact thing before, but I most definitely see the truth in it. Thanks for sharing such gems with us!

  12. Oh...those precious notes from your John...what a blessing they must be to you as you go through the piles of papers (or whatever) and find them. Gold dust, to be sure. Judy's barn cards are so lovely...I really need to visit her shop. And what a darling place to call home that house will be. I bet it's just full of personality inside too! Hugs!

  13. I am SO excited to learn that the move was not as far as expected! Thanking the Lord that your dear ones will be near . . . it seems good for all of you! It's such a charming house too! Moving a short distance should make for an easy (no, never "easy") . . . let's say easiER move. In July, my sister is moving from an upstairs apartment to the one directly below her. She plans to toss some of her stuff (in bags) over the edge of the balcony and then walk it in through the sliding glass door. Not the most dignified way to move, but it will save her lots of trips up and down stairs!

It must be heartwarming and tender to find these little notes from John. ♥

  14. I like John's first note. : )
That's great that your son and his family have found a new home and that they will be staying close to you. : )

  15. So glad to hear the grands have a new home! I bet they'll be moving a lot of things by hand since it's so close. I really like the bay window. And I think John's notes are just the best things you must be finding! I'm glad to hear that the weather has taken a turn for the better in your holler. It's hot and humid in my neck of the woods. ♥

  16. Ummm... I can't say anything about comments. I complain about few comments on my blog but rarely comment on others that I read. I blame it on reading most of them in the iPad. I'm at the desktop right now since I had to write a book review. Can't do that on the iPad.

The kids are still attending their church through July so they took us out to the Outback for an early Father's Day meal on Sunday. It is weird driving by the entrance to their subdivision, knowing they no longer live there. But I'm very happy that Christopher absolutely loves his new job. That matters a lot.

  17. I'm showing my face on Blogger for the first time in a while too. As Brenda above said, when reading blogs on an iPad, leaving comments just doesn't happen so I've been connecting through FB and IG.
I didn't know Judy made cards, soap yes...such a talented and lovely gal.
It's touching for you to be finding little words of wisdom written by John and to share them with us Vee. What people save or write in the margins of their Bible tells much about them and is a heart warming legacy to pass on.
    xx

  18. Oh Vee, I can see why those precious notes are like gold to you. WOW! Some power in those words too. What a charming home too. I just love it. Hugs and blessings, Cindy

  19. Let me start with the tail-end of your post. I am SO happy for you that your kids are staying nearby...and for them, that they found the 'almost perfect' place!

Love the beautiful photo cards by Judy! I need to get back into making them over here...so nice to have them on hand.

As for the notes 'by John'...such nuggets of wisdom he left behind. Hold them near!

    Hugs:)

  20. Gold dust, indeed! Hope you are saving them in a special journal...
How wonderful that your son and family are still nearby. I bet the boys are thrilled that their new home is on the same street so they have the same circle of friends and playmates... :)

  21. I can just imagine how it blesses your heart to find those little notes of John. So glad they are there. And having your kids and grands near is about as good as it gets. Soo happy that worked out well too. Love their new little home. I can't seem to be disciplined about posting either. Or reading....or commenting. I must do better! Hope the rest of your week is good!

  22. The Grands new home is charming. I can only imagine the character of the homes interior! I love the John's notes. I don't think we realize the value of those little hand written note to those that we love once we are gone. I wouldn't worry about blogging, Vee, although I rely on it to know how you're doing. Your desire to post more often will probably return in time. Take care now my friend-Kim

  24. Love the notes from John. We've found some fun stuff interspersed with all the shred and recycle stuff. The new home is quite charming. Makes me wonder what the inside is like. Glad things are working nicely for them and that they are still in the same locale as you. You asked about our sorting technique. All we do is have three boxes set up in front of us. One for shredding (because of too much personal info) One for recycling and one for keeping. The keeping stuff gets filed in more appropriate folders.

  25. Good to read from you, Vee. What a sweet house your family are moving too. I can imagine how happy you are they will be just a few doors farther away.

  28. It seems that finding those notes from John has lifted your spirits which is how he nay have intended them to do. The new home looks lovely and nice that your family will be staying close by. As for not finding time to read or comment on blogs...it happens to all of us as life comes first.

    1. No, these notes pre-date John and me so John had no foreknowledge of such things. He just liked jotting down things he liked or that came to him.

  30. I'm just catching up with everyone, and I'm so sorry to hear about your father Vee. It sounds like it's been a difficult time for you, with the anniversary of your beloved's passing as well. What a blessing to find all those notes he wrote, and I do pray they cheer you. xo Deborah

  32. Those notes sure are the gold dust. What a treasure. My husband has his Bible notes written on post it notes in tiny writing. His grandmother who raised him, wrote her notes and poetry on various scraps of paper she kept in a simple hallmark stationery box, which I have in my possession and consider it such a treasure. I'm SO happy your family is still close by to you. How exciting.

  33. Those notes, they brought tears to my eyes. I just don't know how you do it. Well, that's depressing. Still, these are a blessing.

I love the idea of notecards with your photos...I remember when you had the 'party'. I never felt any of my photos were that good. But you sparked an idea to have some made up for the kids-for the sake of memories. Is there a website you can recommend in having them made up?

I'm really happy for your kids in finding a place they like and that it's close to you. Perfect.

I thought I was missing your posts...I've not been a good blogger, but I think our friends are very forgiving!

    Jane x!
