I've Really Been Painting the Door

A weekend later and I'm still not finished painting doors. That's the story of my painting escapades. Painting is so not my thing, but I am trying to help out since John is very busy doing more important things.

You may remember way back *here* when your help was requested on my "I've Been Painting the Door" post. John and I settled on Sherwin Williams' Laurel Woods. Perhaps it is because my daughter's name is Woods. (Wonder how many times this bad comic can get away with that joke < insert cheesy grin > )

Anyway, we went through the choices, read your comments again, and that's what we decided on unbeknownst to each other. He didn't tell me; I didn't tell him; it just came out that we both agreed on LW. I also liked Studio Blue Green, but John didn't.

When we arrived at the Sherwin Williams store thinking we knew exactly what we wanted, we discovered that Laurel Woods is very, very dark, almost black. I mentioned to the salesman that we had used the Color Visualizer and he said that the values are not always true. Hmmmm...I suppose that they are just true enough to get customers in there. Though I was not thrilled to be starting over, I did find the salesman and his suggestions helpful. So here we have it, the big reveal:

This is called Coastal Plain. I have another coat to do on the front door...same color...and then some touch-ups back and forth, forth and back. I also have to do the door frames in exterior white. I may finish up before November.

A happy Monday to you!

  1. Hi Vee, I think you chose a pretty colour for your doors. We really need to paint ours and didn't get it done again this summer!! I'm trying to decide on colour too but am not looking seriously until hubby gets serious about the job. lol I love your fall vignette at the door with the pillar. Very nice!

  2. Beautiful choice Vee! Now you have me wondering what your Laurel Woods really did look like. None the less or is it nonetheless? Neither looks right does it! I too will be painting soon. Picked up a new color for our entry in our home. Current color has been around for about 11 yrs. Change is good, just takes work sometimes!

  4. Nice color, Vee. It's soothing and still gives you a contrast. Good job! I'm fixing to paint my doors, too, but I'm going to match my shutters. Pale yellow house, dark green shutters, rusty colored roof (yuck). I don't wanna get too many different colors going. It was not possible to change the roof color. When I can, I want a nice dark charcoal color like yours. Your colors are coordinated very well!

  5. I always love green and find it almost always works since. You have been doing so much work on your house...you will be ready and deserving of a nice relaxing autumn once the leaves turn and fall.

  6. A beautiful shade of green, Vee. I really like it a lot.
Take your time, don't wear yourself out and...have fun with it all. You are going to have the prettiest house in town when you get all finished. (finished?? are we EVER finished? I think NOT...):)

  8. The green is a nice shade and looks so fresh and clean. My doors need painting in the worst way, but I don't like painting either! Good job.

PS. About Branson...yes, IMHO, the Christmas season (which starts Nov. 5) is the best time to visit if SDC is top of the list for things to do. It's absolutely beautiful then.

  20. HOORAY for progress! HOORAY for accomplishments! I truly salute your door painting.

And after commenting that... OK, "what's going on here?", you ask. No I am not Blogging. Because being part of "Pretty Blog Land," to me means active/consistent entries... Which allow comments.

If either of those elements are missing, it is not really Blogging. And not really being in "Pretty Blog Land."

I stopped blogging, but did not stop taking photos. What to do with my pics now?, wondered I.

Well, duhhhhhhhhh... I had an old "Pix Muse" blog. So, duhhhhh me, I simply put some pics there. *Brilliant* hu???? >,-)

And by tweaking my Profile Page, used for that old blog, I have a logical way to make random comments in random blogs. Yes! Yes! Yes! Truly *Brilliant* of me. lol...

But! No comments allowed in 'Pix Muse.' So..... I am not sucked back into true, honest-to-goodness, proper Blogging.

  22. Hi Vee,
Oh my, how I love your new front door color! its so pretty!
I really like how you tied your vintage teacups to display them, your mosaic is beautiful the photo of the lit candle is really striking. Your tea cozy is so sweet, I love how you made it look so vintage. Do you have a pattern for your tea cozy..or did you design it yourself?. I really like it..
You did you made a pillow case..aren't they fun and quick.
I wondered how they came up with the hidden seam too, very creative.
I'm staying with my girls this week since they live closer to my work and I won't have to commute so far alone, Gary is on travel all week. We had such a busy weekend two parties to attend and last weekend two we had gatherings. I am getting so far behind on blogging..
Our weather is still hot.. I want fall to arrive.
Have a sweet day and big hugs, Elizabeth

The green shade is a very calming color. I hate painting, so I feel for you! I always put it off until I'm positive no one else is going to do it for me.
Is that a jug of real milk on your porch? My daughter can get 'real' milk now, but she has to pick it up.
    Love your mum bouquet!

  26. No, Kim, it's a milk bottle filled with salt.

  32. Hi Vee - Your door looks great. After i read your comment tonight I clicked on one of my mosaics just to see if i would have the same problem but to my surprise the mosaic appeared on a black page with all the other pictures in a line below so they were like a slide show. google must have changed something because I've never seen that happen before. I'm off to try enlarging pictures on another blog now. Oh and I should be painting my front door...maybe that will be a good project while the farmer's combining in the next couple of weeks. Have a great week!
