Coaching

The boys were all mine yesterday. I think that they were quite disappointed not to be going to school. I decided to use some time to coach them in all that they can NOT say when they return, whenever that may be.

They've been watching a lot of Christmas movies over vacation. Many have become such favorites that they've been watched multiple times. Entire scenes are acted out many times a day.

My coaching went something like this:

Me: And we can't call anyone...
Jake: A filthy animal?
Me: Right. No one wants to be called that.
Sam: And no one wants to get shot.
Me: Definitely not.
Jake: Can I say, "You were smooching my brother"?
Me: No, that's probably not going to go over well.
Sam: Giggles

Sigh. I just hope that I don't have to go pick one of them up from the principal's office come Monday.

Anyone ever play Tenzi? Fun, fast-paced, easy game!

  1. You (and Jake) have put a smile on my face this morning! Thanks for letting us in on your little coaching session. :D
I have not heard of Tenzi, but we're always up for a new game idea. "Fun, fast-paced, and easy" sounds as if it would appeal to our crowd!

  2. Imagine the conversation at school. Think of all the kids who won't get any coaching. "You were smooching my brother". Which movie was that out of? They are adorable. Have fun.

  6. Such cute boys and it's been fun watching them grow through the years. We haven't played Tenzi. I'm going to look for the game. We were talking about games to play on these weekends that nobody should be outdoors.

  8. Lol thanks for making me laugh. What darling boys. I have never played Tenzi. Looks like we won't be going anywhere for awhile. Might have to play a game of chicken legs/dominos. LOL

  9. Lol! Your grand boys sound like mine! Ours stayed with us over the holidays and we had "coaching sessions" also. The house is empty now --just the two of us again. Having eight extra around keeps one on one's toes. Have a great weekend. ♥

  12. There are so many things to consider when caring for kids including the things they pick up in adult conversations, movies, etc. and would love to repeat. You're doing a great job. I've never heard of that game before. Easy suits me just fine. :) Enjoy your day. Your house looks so cozy by the way.

  13. What a good grandma you are. My dad often talked about going to his grandma's house after school. You are building great memories along with the coaching!

  14. I see you've been watching, Home Alone. It's a very favorite of mine too!
Jake is so cute. Are those your glasses or his?
Believe me, after hours of Monopoly, Tenzi sounds like a game I need to check out..
Have a good weekend and stay warm!

  15. Home Alone has been watched at our house many times and I have to say that one line "you filthy animal" is beginning to wear thin! Haha! Good luck with the coaching!

  16. Laughing that you coach all the while knowing boys have their own say when grandmas and teachers are not around. Then there are all the PC/non PC comments by men over 80 that were perfectly to say back in 1940...hoo boy. I got corrected by my 30 something kids for referring to a Chinese person as Oriental. "Rugs are oriental, people are Asians".
It was easier back when the "wash your mouth out with soap" lexicon was a very short list!

  17. Vee, such a wonderful smile! I love your coaching technique and can well imagine the way those conversations would go.

  18. Are you planning a little vacation for yourself when the boys are back in school? So much fun and so much energy. Love their sweet faces.
Sadly, I'm not familiar with any of the quotes. But isn't it amazing how quickly we all pick up on the memorable lines?
    Enjoy!

  23. Oh my, this made me and my girl laugh so hard! We know what movie THIS is -- one of our favs! My girl says you should've also coached them not to call anyone a "cotton-headed ninny muggins!" LOL (from Elf)

  33. Such SWEET grands!! Love his smile!! I'll have to check out that game. I like things that are fast paced. I must get bored easily or something. No, I get SLEEPY when we play a slow game......that's why I don't play games with Louis Dean! He PONDERS his every move!!
I love seeing your cozy cottage!! Noticed the wood ceiling!

  34. I'm sure you've done a good job of coaching but you never know what they might say at school. :)
I've never heard of that game. But easy is what I like

  35. Sounds like you did a good job coaching. Your grands sons are so handsome, I'll have to check out that game for when our grands come here.

  36. Little boys...gotta love em!! I was watching my two great nephews yesterday while mommy was having baby boy number 3!! It was so much fun taking them up to the hospital when we got the call to come up to meet the newest member of their family. Have a great day!!

  37. Oh Vee, If I could only use the punch lines and commercial jingles to teach and coach life's important things to my Grandson's, it would be a cinch. Even if you do get a call from the principle just tell them what movies they watched and smile. I thought we were suppose to be tolerant? After all it's Hollywood...
PS. Are you thinking of moving?
Snowing now, I am praying for this dust bowl to become a green praire in the Spring Time.
Blessings to you! Thanks so much for praying for Kalea! They all know it was a miracle (really)

  38. Oh, my, I'm getting behind in my blog reading! Sorry about that. Though it is fun to have several posts from you to read all at once. It's wonderful to have grandchildren we see so often! I have two that I do see all the time, and two that I only see every month or so.......Alas. but I'll count my blessings for what I do have!

We love to play games and I don't know Tenzi. Have to check it out.
