Flags Flying

It's wonderful to see flags flying.
Thought we might revisit Eagle Mountain House in Jackson, New Hampshire where not only the American flag is flying in profusion, but also the Maple Leaf flag is being flown front and center. That's because it was Canada Day when we were visiting a few years ago; no, we did not stay at this beautiful inn. At any rate, I was able to "fix" this photo now that I know a bit more about editing. You can see the former post *here,* if you are interested.

This is a one-man a cappella quartet. ☺ He sings all four parts of O Canada and very well I might add. It's worth it to see his smile in quadruplicate at the end.

This home was all decked out for the 4th of July back in 2011. Hope that it is all decked out again in 2014.

Do you do much July decorating? I have three flags on my windowsill, which you can see in the header, plus the flag on the garage. I have a red star on the front door. Have you seen *Deborah's patriotic tree?* So creative and unique. I may have some work to do. ☺

Well that's about it for today other than to wish everyone in Canada a fabulous Canada Day! The rest of us in North America will join the festivities on Friday! (Who am I kidding? The firecrackers have been going off for over a week now.)

A good Tuesday to you!

  1. I have been doing a bit of decorating for the 4th! I always have my flag flying. You can see it in my header. I bought new striped ribbon for my wreath by the front door and inside I have red cups hanging from the chandelier, my Americana basket on the counter to hold the napkins, and various other red and blue items.

Those houses and inns are lovely. I love white houses with flags flying!

That barber shop quartet man is great!

  2. Wow, that Eagle Mountain House is amazing. Wouldn't it be fun to stay there. And that second photo is beautiful too. It's what my front porch will look like when it's finished, well, except for the fact that building code insists that we put up a railing or wall. So what if it's only 10 feet down to the ground on one end? Hope you have a lovely day, Vee. As for decorating, I have one American flag on my desk.

  3. I love these photos, Vee. We fly the American Flag on the front of our home each day. I've never done much decorating for the Fourth, but I did enjoy Deborah's tree! We've been hearing firecrackers, too. Wishing you a lovely day!

  4. And a good Tuesday to you Vee! I loved the quartet video - very cool! I don't do much Canada Day decorating other than dusting off the folk art flag and displaying it. It's just so wonderful to have an extra day off and spend it at home - I love long weekends!

  5. I so miss being within driving distance of the White Mountains. The years I lived in NH and MA were some of the best and we always took weekend drives to places such as Jackson…..searching for covered bridges, pretty lakes and State Parks. We picnicked in perfect temperatures and without mozzies usually. Did have a terrible encounter with black flies one year - packed up the picnic so quickly but still the kids were badly bitten, me too!

Enjoy the run up to the 4th and then have a great celebratory day. We also celebrate the 5th as it's Bob's b'day!!

Yes, Canada is also a much-loved land for us too - happy Canada day to your Canadian readers Vee.

  7. I forgot all about Canada Day. Thanks for the reminder. I'll have to get messages off to my Canadian pals. I love red white and blue ... have a couple of little do-dads for the table, Uncle Sam is on the front door and I have several American flags on the balcony. So far, I'm the only one on the block celebrating!!

  8. First of all, let me say how lovely your new header is! I do not do much decorating for the 4th...just have a flag flying off the garage which actually stays out much of the time. We are way off the cul-de-sac with woods shrouding the house...not many would see the decorations....same goes for Christmas or any other holiday. I do love to see those big old houses with the huge porches decorated to the max with the red, white & blue banners and such. It will be a quiet weekend for me...hubby working...just me and pups will be hangin' out!!

  9. I've been out of town on a romantic getaway so am just getting back to the swing of things. Since I've been gone, I'm late getting out my red, white, and blue for the fourth. I will need a firecracker set under my sit-upon to get the things done I need to get done around here.

I love that place, and it would be exactly the kind of place I would want to visit. Flags? A bonus!

  10. We used to decorate at home but none here. I love seeing the decorations for the 4th as I am driving around town!

  11. I always enjoy going up north to camp over the 4th holidays and having just as many Canadians there enjoying their extended holiday, too. We have met so many great people from across the border when camping. I understand that Canada has some wonderful campgrounds, too, so I'm thankful they choose to visit us. I'm hoping we can one day visit a birding campgrounds near Winnipeg that one lady told us about. How lucky we are to be able to share with each other and celebrate both Canada and Independence Days.

  12. What a beautiful Inn. Well if you didn't stay there, I hope you had breakfast there! It looks like a great place to be!

I love the patriotic look this time of year! We finally bought some bunting for the cottage and I can't wait to put it up. We have a beautiful flag with 13 stars that my hubby proudly flies off his garage - that's about it! I did see one other decoration at Reny's that I was thinking of getting . . .

    Happy 4th of July!

  13. I love to see the flags waving. That is one nice looking Inn. I usually do decorate a bunch for the 4th but since I'll be across the Pond this year all of my flags will be tucked away until we get back home. Love that rendition of O Canada by one!

  14. What a beautiful inn. Wouldn't it be fun to stay there! Love how you edited the second photo.

  15. That in is beautiful! It seems I only decorate for fall and Christmas...I don't decorate for Easter, the 4th, Halloween.

  16. that is lovely, I love how so many decorate for July 4th, you don't see people decorate like that in Canada, we just have our flags,

  17. Great harmony.
    Yes Happy Canada Day ~

  18. What a beautiful Inn! I just love old buildings! We been so busy stripping Eric's floors and painting the walls that I haven't had any time for blogging. Have a great 4th!

  19. Lovely... the inn, the patriotic home and the music. You are getting me in the holiday spirit here today.
At my house you will find the flag waving, a petite flag waving from the geranium pot and a little kitchen display featuring an old red flag shaped cookie cutter.

  20. Hi Vee. Thanks for the Canada Day salute. The inn looks wonderful and how nice for them to fly our Canadian flag on Canada Day. I love the solo quartet, if you will. He did an excellent job and is very talented! I have a flag hanging from a maple tree and several small flags stuck in flower planters at the front of the house. We'll be going into Fredericton later on to join in on the festivities at Officer's Square and stay for the fireworks. Lots of fun. It's extremely hot and humid here today. In the low 90's F. This is day 5 of sun and heat for us and we have one more tomorrow I think before it breaks with rain. It's a bit unbearable but I'm remember our winter. :) Enjoy the day. Pam

  21. The white house decked out for the fourth is so beautiful. It looks so perfectly American:>) I haven't done much, stuck a few small flags in the basket of flowers hanging on the front door and bunting on the sides of the porch. It took all of about 5 minutes, but I love it and I will leave it for the entire month of July.

  22. Thank you Vee for the wishes for Canada Day, and the talented young man doing a cappella with himself - such talent.
Lots of fireworks here and I've come home to hot weather and the a/c on . Glad to be back though and now to sort my photos!

  23. Well Vee....love the patriotic theme.....reminds me so of Maine and all the flags displayed on the Western Prom! So very inspirational!

  24. Yes, we've watched fireworks all week, too....out here in the country, they start early. But, when we lived in town, you couldn't fire them off..city ordinance, I think.

  25. O, and no....I don't decorate much for the 4th...flags and little more.

  26. My husband is a former Marine, we fly the flag (and the Marine Corp one) all the time..I also decorate the front porch. I loveeeeeeeeeeee your new blog header. Blessings

  27. I love your photos and yes I have the flag flying everyday. Loved the video and yes he has a smile a mile wide! About the blackberries Vee the grow wild here and take over. I have plenty about the property but don't want them close to the house as picnicking with the bears.... not a good thing. I can't leave the puppies alone for one second. It is 93 here today so I am sure the bears will be coming down to the river tonight. I cannot feed the birds now either. One night at 2 AM I heard crash bang on the front porch and there was a bear tipping over my flower pots. He got the feeders that were hanging and left. I found the feeders in the pasture all torn to bits. Nasty bear!

  28. What a beautiful Inn.
We have our flag on the porch and have put a whole slew of little ones in the ground in front of our house.

  29. Oh, that inn...beautiful! I'd love to spend a night or two there! I popped back to the old post to see how you had "fixed" the photo. Amazing what one can learn in a short time, isn't it?

I enjoyed the one-man quartet. Such fun to hear all the parts in one voice!

  30. I could stay at that inn...it's lovely. I don't do much decorating for the 4th, just a few flags outside and inside I'll maybe stick a flag or two in a bottle or plant. My dishes are already patriotic as most of them are red, white or blue. :) The "everyday" dishes, that is.

  31. I almost wish I were Canadian just because of that song. I just love it. I think it's equal between their national anthem and ours.

  32. I decorate for just about everything!!! Patriotic decor goes up in May and stays until a week after the 4th of July. Then it's watermelons and sunflowers until September 1st. 61 days and a wake up away!!

I will have to let Louis Dean listen to the 'quartet' in the morning. He's already asleep! I can't wait to tell you what he was working on today. You know we have a porta potty for when we camp in the screened shelters. Well, he is a big guy and the potty is plastic. He was afraid he would crush it so he built a frame around it today - complete with a regular toilet seat. Oh, my.......talk about being a Red Neck - he IS!!

  33. Vee, we are sitting here in our screened tent at 10:50 on Canada Day evening. The fireworks in town have ended but I am hearing the early July4 th fireworks across the border. Enjoy your preparations and thankyou for thinking of your neighbors to the north.

  34. What a beautiful Inn! I'd love to spend some time there... Thanks for the Canada Day wishes. It was a hot one here.. so hot we didn't even go downtown to take in the festivities! I hope you have a wonderful July 4th, and I hope Arthur doesn't ruin any of your plans.
I loved the quartet solo, or is that solo quartet? Whatever, he's good! I do love our national anthem. I think one of the proudest times I have ever felt singing it was at Expo 1974 in Spokane Washington. I was part of a singing group called Four by Four, from my hometown of Fredericton NB. There were 16 of us, all in early 20's - 4 sopranos, 4 altos, 4 tenors and 4 basses. We fundraised enough money to go to Spokane to represent our province and Canada. At one of the big events (can't even remember now what it was) but it was in a large arena type bldg., we sang our own National Anthem in both English and French, and then also sang the American national anthem. I think the entire audience was astounded that a group of young Canadians would even know the American anthem... blew them away!
