Shifting Shades

I'm not really here. Don't those words inspire confidence? I'm trying to put a post or two "in the can" so to speak and am hoping that you'll not give up on me completely.

I have so many reservations about the month of August. I will miss my usual routine though my grandmother and I have a routine that we re-create on a yearly basis. This year will have the added dimension of my having a new husband in tow. It could be more than interesting.

A few days ago, Dawn shared that perhaps I'd be interested in a new magazine that she had just found called Mary Janes Farm .

How surprised I was when I actually found it at Borders...bottom rack, way in behind, but I found it! Yippee! This magazine is so full of wonderful things that I can't encourage you enough to go out and take a look for yourselves. It's a bit pricey, but well worth the cost for all the neat things including patterns and ideas. If you love embroidery, sewing, vintage clothing, etc., you'll enjoy this one. Thanks, Dawn!

I so want to do this project from the magazine...

now that's inspired!

You can see just how uninspired I was this week when I needed two new lampshades. Here's the first purchased from a lighting store and looking pretty nice, at least, I think so.We've been working on that one little corner of the addition for a bit. It began with John's beautiful bookcase to house some of his vast collection. And it's ongoing. The clock is one that used to live at church; John broke it while changing the battery. He replaced the clock for the church and had this one kicking around in his barn...the side is dented and the glass is broken. Up there, no one's much the wiser.

This is the shade that had been on the former lamp...
and this is what I had previously considered "inspired."

Sometimes, I have to laugh. So be looking for the truly inspired shade one day this month. It's my August project.

(Please forgive the quality of pics lately...we've had nothing much but the gloomiest of weather for most of the summer...days and days of rain. Have never seen a summer like it. This post was interrupted by thunder showers for hours. Ackkkk!)

Have a wonderful Monday!

  2. Good morning Vee! I'm so glad you liked the magazine!! I can't wait to see your lampshade makeover ~ I loved that idea too...she's such a sweet woman, MaryJane, I've been fortunate enough to meet her and her daughter (on the cover) Karin, the chicken coop farmgirl in this issue, won a pinkeep contest and they flew to Georgia to host a craft day at her house and Karin invited me to attend! Women... creating together, it was so much fun!! I hope you have a wonderful week Vee...hmmmmm, I think I'm in the mood for schmoopy....xxoo, Dawn

  4. The gloomy weather just hit here this morning. It does have a habit of taking the wind out of our creative sails. Mary Jane Butters is one of my favorites. She's the rural version of Martha. Of course, she's the designer of the "Make-Do" apron!!

Have a great time with your grandmother.

  5. Good morning Miz Vee! I got the last issue of Mary Janes Farm and enjoyed it. It was pricey but Artful Blogging Mag is very pricey, but very well worth my book allowance ;) It will be a keeper for sure. I've found many wonderful blogs in that issue alone!

I hope you have a lovely and inspired day!♥

  12. Your shade looks wonderful. What a cozy area and just beautiful wood on the walls. It doesn't surprise me that you would have such a warm and cozy home. You are blessed to have your grandmother. Have fun. Can't wait to see the pics.

  13. I'm sure our little book/magazine/music/movie store won't have that magazine. *sigh* When I go to my sister's this weekend I'll hit a Border's and look for it! It looks very interesting!
Have a great August with your Grandmother! I'll miss seeing you every day, but know you'll be home soon!
    Hugs to you!

  14. oh I feel for you with the dreary weather. We often have long periods of rainy drizzly weather here too on the wet coast. . oh I mean west coast.
Try not to worry about sporadic posting. I want to encourage you to go and be free to care for your grandmother and spend time with your husband. . the routine will be different for a while but come fall we'll all be back in our usual spots. . and I'll not forget you.

  15. Oh no! La la la la la -- I'm not listening!
I can't buy one more magazine even if it does looks so enticing like THAT ONE!!!!! Aggggh! Between subscriptions to Martha Stewart Living, Country Living, Home Companion, Victoria, BH&G, Women's day, Hallmark, Family Circle, Southern Lady (yes, you read that right -- I get Southern Lady) Taste of Home, Food & Wine, Paercrafts, and Scrapbooking I am drowning in magazines!!
I need a 12 step program on how to throw them away too -- I can't part with so many issues and I have binders of things I saved from the ones I did recycle...lol!

Pretty lampshade project in that issue --hope it comes out well for you!
Your reading nook looks so inviting! My cat loves when I sit in my reading chair as it's his signal for some serious lap time
    ;-)

Hope the sun comes out for you soon!
Tell your grandmother I send a "hello" from Brooklyn!
    Hugs, Pat

  22. I love MaryJane's Farm magazine! I went to university near where she farms --- beautiful country! I think I have every issue of her magazine, as I went in and bought all the old ones when I discovered it. It used to be that if you ordered product from her company, you would receive a year's subscription to her magazine for free. I don't know if it's still true or not, but it's working for me.

  24. Why is it that lampshades can sometimes be so difficult to like once you'e got them? I've tried making some, Lord knows I've bought way too many that never seemed to look as good when I get them home and when I DO think I like them, years later I'll look back at a picture and shake me head at my "taste". I have lampshade issues, I guess. I DID make some cool ones for Christmas once. I painted some plain white ones red and trimmed the top and bottom with white fur. LOL Randey was...well let's just say he was speechless when he first saw them. ha!

Love your 2 shades, though. Lovely and tasteful (something that's in short supply around here at my place. LOL).
