Concerning Music

~Another sort of Red, White, and Blue~

I'm trying something new today. I have missed music here. These days, most bloggers don't have music. All those dear playlists I loved are a thing of the past. One must use Mix Pod or perhaps Grooveshark. (My Grooveshark Christmas playlist is still out there somewhere.) Many of the selections on Mix Pod are listed from You Tube anyway so I've rather enjoyed Susan Branch's way of doing things.

The problem is that my links open one on top of the other ordinarily. If you follow a link I provide, you can not read my blog and listen at the same time. It would be one or the other. That is, until my dear and patient blogging buddy Donna told me what to do: When you create a link, just make sure to click on the "open in new window" option in the menu. Now, we'll see if it works. (It doesn't work in the sidebar, but it may work here.)

The joy of this method is that you don't have to listen if you don't wish to listen.

My day will be spent pretty close to the television set. I want to watch a lot of what is happening in Tampa. We are praying for those in Isaac's path and asking that he just fizzles out. I'm sure that we all are! Take care out there...

  1. Good morning Vee! I have music going in my home most of the time. When I check a blog and it has music, I either turn off the blog music, if possible or I have to get up and turn off my music.
I guess I'm a party pooper (which is unusual for me),but i don't like blog music. I like listening to my own music; just my opinion though.
    Hugs,

  2. I had playlist on my blog. As you know, a few months ago for whatever reason, the music stopped. I can still pull it up and listen to it when I want to. I do miss some, but for the most part it is kind of nice to not have sound start, sometimes blaring, out of nowhere. Now if those talking ads would just go away. I think those are 10 times worse!

  3. Ah sweetie, It works like a charm! I clicked on the link and got a second window. Then I minimized it and came back here to finish reading and commenting, all while being serenaded by the lovely song.

If you want to make it a permanent fixture, then you may be able to add it as a page element at the top of your blog (below your header), using the other set of instructions I sent you last night. Otherwise, you can add a link on each blog post that you may think needs some accompaniment!

I am always delighted to help my dear blogging friends, and thank you so much for your acknowledgement.

  4. It worked Vee. I stopped using music on my blog when a few bloggers told me they were startled when the music started. I love listening to beautiful music.

  5. Hello Vee
I hate to admit it, but I leave the sound turned off on my computer. I know I'm missing some pretty music at times but my office is always quiet, no radio. :-)
Hopefully Isaac will lose intensity, he's an early start to the hurricane season.

  6. I miss blog music too - I had a great playlist!

I do like the option of turning it on or leaving it off - as sometimes, depending on the music, I have a hard time reading the blog.

This seems to be a good option.

ps Kyle was reading my comment and he says Hi to you and Mr. John! He says "How are you doing? Love, Kyle! "

  7. Ohhhhhh, pretty new blog look!!! -clapping hands- Now I can admit that I didn't resonate with your beloved green summer background. Not that that makes any diff, since our background only has to resonate with us.

Love everything. You may well want to change here and there. But just saying that I love it. (I hope you like people to notice, when you make blog changes, too... :-)))) )

    Now to read the post!!!!

  8. Lovely, perfect, marvelous way to add music to one's blog!!!!!!!!!!!! Dear Readers who want to listen, can. Dear Readers who do not want to listen, can refrain.

SUPER-WONDERFUL! "Thank you's" to your talented Dear Reader who told you (and us) how to do it!!!!!!

Oh, if you watch tv coverage, you will probably see our favorites (Meg Kelley and Shepard Smith... Meg is co anchor of the conventions for Fox, and Shep is doing his regular 3-4 and 7-8 news programs, FROM New Orleans, for Fox.)

I have not looked at any weather coverage yet today. Just got up, wrote a letter to newest 'Grand' to go to college. And did my post.

Our hearts go out to all those people, in the wake of all aspects of this storm.

  9. I am anxious to hear Mrs. Romney tonight. When I click on the link I get your music and the you tube screen, but when I go back to your blog, the music continues, so I guess it works!

  10. And it has continued to other blogs. nice,

  11. I think I must be well and truly the odd woman out, as I like quiet. I do listen to music sometimes, but then I put it on just to listen to it. I'm the only one in my family like this. I just got a new car and could have cared less about the sound system and all the hookups for music gadgets. I like quiet when I drive.

  12. I, too, love the idea of optional music! (Oh, and I am sooooo in love with this music! And with all things Anne! Have you ever visited PEI?)

I also love the whole "open in new window" feature, as it enables one to dart away to watch a video or see a link, and easily return to what one was reading originally. After you choose that option a few times, it is the default choice and you don't have to think about it anymore. (At least, that's what happened on my blog.)

  13. That's a good idea about having the optional music.

I love your floral photo it is so pretty.

    Happy Tuesday

  14. I love most kinds of music so I enjoy blog music. If by some small chance it isn't to my taste, I just turn the speaker off which is very easy to do.

  15. I have given up on music on my blog, as you know I tried it again last week and it was slowing down the load time. My old player just went away one day and I am not sure what happened to it. I don't like the new players that use video from Youtube, I only want sound not distracting movement. Anyway, I hope this works out for the Haven.

  16. This Green Gables song is lovely. There are playlists from blogs that I miss, and playlists from blogs that I was happy to see they were gone! my bad :/ I like having the option to listen to music or not to have it on. xo

  17. I keep the sound turned off on my computer even though I love music. If I do want music, I've always opened another window and found what I wanted to listen to on Youtube just like you've described. Easy, peasy!

  18. I enjoy music but I can't seem to multi-task...read and listen, unless it is only instrumental

I keep my speakers on mute, due to the fact I have scared myself and others in my family by going to a blog and the music startled us both

    You are always so educational..thanks

Prayers for all that is going on in our nation

  19. My computer is usually muted, but in some instances I turn it on when I know there is a playlist that I like. Often I have a few windows open at once and I don't care for all of the different songs mingling together.
Your idea for an optional playlist is nice and thoughtful too.

  20. I love this music! Hope you're able to add the link in some way that we can find it easily in the future.

  21. Hi Vee - Sometimes I want music, sometimes I don't, but glad you found a way to do both!

Yep, we're staying pretty close to the TV, too, AND the weather channel - hate to see those coastal folks have problems again. Hopefully, it won't be quite the monster that it was last time. Roar like a lion, but come tiptoe in like a mouse!

  22. It's nice that you give us the option instead of blaring the music and having us scroll down to turn it off, or turn off the sound on our computers. Thank you. Much appreciated.

I prefer reading blogs in silence. If I want music I prefer to choose my own. When I play music I'm usually in the kitchen, cooking.

  23. PERFECT!!! I love the music and listened as I read along. Normally I don't like blog music because it starts suddenly and I ALWAYS jump! So I usually keep the sound turned off on my computer. Love the way you do this as an option and I do so love Anne of Green Gables soundtrack! Now I want to watch the programs once more!

    ReplyDelete
  24. That's a good idea. I love Anne of Green Gables soundtrack music, perfect!

  25. I love the music to Anne of Green Gables! I sometimes miss having music on my blog but I understand why so many dislike it and won't put it back.

I'm watching the convention while I blog surf!

  26. I hope that Issac just fizzles out, too! I am so worried about the people of New Orleans!

    Have a blessed day!

  27. Hi Vee!

Well, I am kind of a music junkie - always listening to something! I like music on my blog, I have my playlist right at the top, so that those who don't like the distraction can turn it off. I don't like having to scroll to the bottom of the page to find the turn-off button. I also don't like music with lots of words,(although some of mine do) I'd rather just listen to soft music.

I really like Susan Branch's idea! It's always fun to see what other do with their blogs, and how they feel about certain funny things we bloggers do... :0)

    Hugs,
    Barb
