House Work of Another Sort

It's been such a muggy summer and hot, though we've not achieved a 100F day yet (and don't wish one) that John decided to follow other pursuits until it got cooler. This week begins with tidying up some loose ends on the house and then moving on to the garage.

This is all very good as I want the garage interior back. After over a year, it is time.

Any tasks that you've put off for cooler weather?

I'm off on Nonni duty until later this afternoon, but never fear I'll be catching up with you. Much too nosy curious not to...

  2. I keep putting off a part of our garden in front of the house - it needs practically everything hauled out of it! The cooler weather has come but Tim is busy sealing driveways, and I need his help. He sealed ours last week - it looks great - and is working on my parents this week. It is hard to do whne you need to sleep as wee, after working 12:00am - 8:00am!

    Enjoy the grands!

  3. i've been putting off cleaning up my flower garden in the front yard. it's a mess, but it's just been too hot ... and there's many jobs indoors that i'm waiting for cooler weather before i attack them! i'm hoping to get the garden in shape this week ... :)

    have a LOVELY day!

  4. We finally got to the shade garden at the back of the house on Saturday. I started it and Warren finished it for me. I would say the flower beds have been most neglected this year due to the heat and humidity. Now, I can have at them a bit. Although my time is being absorbed in an early candle season.

  5. I've got an armload of projects in the house that involve painting. In this warmer weather, they have all been put on hold. Roof work is hot no matter when done if the sun is shining. Hope he gets it done soon! Have fun with your grands!

  6. I have the hardest time reconciling 'needing' to 'doing'. Any suggestions? :D Handyman's way to cheap to hire anyone. I am the hired help. The front porch got scraped before the heat and drought weather set in. Now it needs paint. I hate to paint. Plenty of projects...no labor! Woops, am I whining?

  7. Cooler weather projects? On my yes! At least, _he_ certainly has them lined up! ,-)

He has the pavers there, waiting till it's arranging-them-weather. For a paved place to put the old truck for the winter. He puts it beside the house, between house and row of trees, where it's not very noticeable. But just on the ground.

He wants it to be on rows of pavers, under the tires. A load of sand spread first, then something else, then pavers, then something else.

Needless to say, I don't understand. I just make sure he doesn't do it, in hot weather. ,-)

Oh and inside, I could of course, go back to getting rid of "stuff," upstairs. I could. I could. I could. -grin-

    Gentle hugs,
    "Auntie"

  8. My hubby loves the hot weather, so he rarely postpones any chores. Me, I spent an hour in the sun and was down for the count. I went to the flea market Sunday, with hat and ice water in tow, but came home early...too hot.

  9. Must be in the air - Mr OP scratched 2 things off his "honey do" list yesterday too:)

    Have fun!

  10. Oh the shed is calling our names loud and clear over here....but it's definitely been told to quiet down until it's MUCH cooler, haha. Enjoy your time with the grands...

  11. Most of our summer has been scorching hot with a long string of 100 plus temps tucked in there.

I need to finish my spring cleaning as it is almost time for fall cleaning.

  12. Oh how fun to be on Nonni duty.
Seeing John on the roof reminds me of the pictures I saw on my last visit to HappyOne's blog. Yikes ... we will not be climbing on any roofs, but our garage is in serious need of a good cleaning. Just waiting for the weather to get and STAY cool.

  13. Most tasks around here have been put off until cooler weather. We still need to paint the kitchen (the part that was not remodeled in the spring), because I just didn't get motivated to do it this summer. Up next though is some repair to the front steps, re-laying the bricks on the front sidewalk, and repairing/replacing the lattice at the foundation to the front porch. Ron has hopes of doing all this when he is off in September. Hope the weather cooperates!

John has a hot job up there on the roof!

  14. Ugh. House work and home improvements are just never done, are they?

As for husbands on roofs, that about makes me crazy with worry - hate it hate it hate it.

My DH has learned to not even tell me when he is going up there because of all the truly scary things he does (he is a blacksmith hobbyist, he does scary things all the time) getting on the roof is the most scary to me. Because he is so tall and his knees aren't great.

Glad you're getting your stuff done, though, makes it all so nice when it is finished!

  15. There are some things I want to look for in the attic over my garage, but I refuse to go there until it's MUCH cooler! I'm glad your roof is a light color. Roof work is not too cool either!

  16. It's been hard for Dear to work on the siding in the heat that beats on that side of the house when he gets home from work. So cooler days will afford him time to finish that off. I have been putting off some organizing that I need to do...oh and then there's scrubbing floors.
    Have a fun nonni day!

  17. Yes, working in my craft room/sewing room/ supply room, which is in an attic of sorts. Soooo hot, looking forward to getting back in there. ~ Abby

  18. It was a hot dirty summer here too. I put a lot of my cleaning on the back burner and now that it has somewhat cooled, I've been doing a deep clean on the rooms.

    Uggh....

  19. We have had a pretty nice summer. More rain than I wanted, but don't like to complain with the drought all over.

I haven't put anything off, because we are in this rental and have no upkeep here.

  20. Where did you put the things you had in the garage? Or was it being able to park the car in there? I'm curious, too?

Cooler weather tasks ~ more camping!! It won't be long before the 5th wheel gets put away for winter storage. We have to make use of the 2 remaining months.

  21. I put off many things for another day...whatever the weather! We are having a cooler week after last week's scorcher.

Have yourself a grand time today!

  22. Hanging out with grandchild is the only thing I won't put off because of hot weather. It may stay below 95 today...hoping...

  23. It's always scary to me to see my hubby on the roof. I'm deathly afraid of heights, so it scares me when I know he is up there. His knees aren't in the best shape.
Oh yes, there are numerous things I/we've put off because of the awful heat this summer. One, of course, is the bathroom project which I didn't want to deal with the mess, etc., and trudging down the stairs to that bathroom. But, what else is new...we're both procrastinators by nature so it's not too unusual for us to be behind.
    Enjoy your day!

  24. Hope you had fun today.
No, we go right ahead and do things no matter what the weather. : )

  25. We have had some pretty hot days here too. It is easy to put off the weeding when it is too hot. Have a great day!

  26. To hot to think about working outside during the day for me - I've be putting off picking up a died bird from the side yard - to sad - I'll have to do it this evening - grr -- wink! But visiting friends and grandkids I would not be putting off either... so I am off too!
    Hugs

  27. John gets the hard work and you get the fun!! Really, Vee, is that fair?
Althiough my DH would think intertaining children is the far harder task!

    ReplyDelete
  28. The windows!! They are frightful. I will be doing them this week in the evenings after work.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ugh! Windows. Don't even mention windows. I'm actually waiting for cooler weather (think October) and then I want to mulch the garden. Too hot now.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Tell John to be careful up on that roof!

Heat or no heat I have to clear my house of 36 years worth of collections, books, magazines, clothes, toys, paper...general clutter....so I can put it up for sale! A big job and verytime consuming...I can see ultimately packing will be another big job.

    ReplyDelete
  31. We need to repaint our outside shutters when IT GETS COOLER...need to repaint a little trim outside the house...need to install 4 more storm windows...we've put on 8, so we'll be finished when we get the last 4...waiting for cooler weather to dig a new LITTLE flowerbed in the front yard....I sure would love a raised one, like yours...not sure we can do it, tho. Let's see...yes, we need to touch up some paint on the carport...by the time we get this all done, it will be winter, I will keep a fire going all winter long and just laze around the whole winter...then, I'll weight 946 lbs by summer......
oh, dear....see what your questions lead to. ?? :))

  32. There's never a shortage of work . . . is there!!!

  33. The garage is actually one I'm putting off until cooler weather. Actually, I was going to restain and work on the deck too, but we have just been hit with an unexpected money "crisis" of sorts so that will have to wait.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Quilting. I found so many half done ones in the sewing room clearout - but cosy autumn nights would be better than "summer" nights!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Sure. You really want to know???
Clean/restain decks and railings, scrape/repaint clapboards on outside of patio, get the wasp nest down from the highest peak, paint underside of turret outside, caulk moldings in kitchen and FR, paint trim in 2 bedrooms white, pick new paint color for spare room, stain patio, scrape/paint metal roofs.
    Ok, I'll stop now.
