Talkative Tuesday

Each morning for the last four I've zipped into Site Meter hoping to check my stats. The numbers are plummeting like Wall Street, which does nothing for self-esteem. As you probably already know, SM is switching servers so there are going to be interruptions in service. They said that these interruptions would only last a few hours. Sure.

Edited to Add:

This is what I mean by numbers plummeting. My site meter has been down for four days. That means all numbers are nearing zero. Just let your head bend around that one for a bit. =D Of course, I know these numbers are incorrect. You've been here after all!  Still they are dispiriting.

So I did what any self-respecting blogger would do and checked the stats that Blogger provides. However, I don't understand them as the numbers are always so much higher and presented so much differently from Site Meter's.

Ditto with the third stat site I have brought on board. It's difficult to compare numbers when the numbers are not the same from site to site so I'm hoping that Site Meter will be back up and at'em soon.

Thank you for the nice comments on my last post. I heard from the curious about what is on the bookshelves. My photography, especially when zooming, made reading those itty-bitty titles a challenge. Plus I have them stacked every which way because there are books, old and new, arriving all the time.

One new one is 5•Minute APOLOGETICS for TODAY by Ron Rhodes, which I won at Debbie's Of His Pasture. Thanks so much, Debbie! We have added this one to our morning devotions and have had some great discussions like the one we had in response to this quote: Some critics claim the New Testament contains fairy tales, but these same critics make up their own fairy tales to explain away the evidence.

Last week my entire house looked as if I were running a laundry. My dryer had staggered through its final load. The thing is, John fixed it awhile back, though it was just too far gone this time. The dial wasn't advancing and I'd come to, hours later, realizing that the dryer had been going and going and going. (That can happen when the laundry room is in the basement.) I had clothes drying on racks and hanging on hangers everywhere. Thankfully, my niece let me borrow her dryer twice for towels. I'd never have been able to dry them in all the humidity.

Yesterday, the new dryer arrived. It'll be a bit of an experiment because we returned to an electric dryer after having had a propane one. I did not want to pay the extra money for a propane dryer. Especially not when we replaced the stove this year; the refrigerator is limping along; and the lawn mower kicked it on Sunday. I've never had such a year for appliances/equipment giving up the ghost.

Anyway, I did so much laundry yesterday that I must have been up and down those cellar stairs two dozen times. Today, my old bod is creaking.

We haven't watched too much of the Olympics, though it's on for about an hour each evening. I noted that the Synchronized Swimming was held on Sunday, though it was not televised. I've tried, but can't find when NBC is planning to show it, if at all. If you know...

Off to water the gardens... Things are looking up — a ripening tomato and a lone blueberry!

Reminder:  August's Note Card Party coming up next week. Still time to load new photos or check on old ones.

  1. I'm the first one today! Perhaps by the time I form my thoughts, someone else would have snuck in.

I know how many folks read my blog. Three. Okay, maybe four!

Will you eat the one blueberry? The tomatoe looks promising. A garden is a blessing, isn't it?

  2. Dear One, you know what I'm going to say/ask, don't you? :-)))))))

Does it seem wise, to invest so much time and our-view-of-self, into "Pretty Blog Land"?

As you know, I've been going through "Blog Land Angst" myself. In fact, you were kind enough to talk-me-down off-the-ledge, just yesterday.

How about if we both, give ourselves a proper shaking, just like a doggie does, coming out of water... And shake, shake, shake all our Angst Over Blogging, off... off... off. :-)

    Shake! Shake! Shake!

    There!!!

    Doesn't that feel good?!?

    ,-)

    Gentle hugs,

  4. DH watches the olympics as much as possible. I believe you'll be able to watch synchronized swimming today. It seems to be the main topic on The Today Show this morning.

I've often wondered why everything seems to need replacing at about the same time. After reading this, I guess we all experience it...it doesn't just happen at my home!

The tomato and blueberry look great. Maybe next year your little blueberry bush will surprise you with lots of berries.

  5. I halfway heard some of the same things Diane did on the Today show this morning, so I assume the synchronized swimming will be on today or tonight. It will be disappointing if they don't show it in prime time. I know it's not considered as serious a sport as some, but it is fun to watch, isn't it?

Hope you enjoy the new dryer!

  6. Expired appliances...blah. It's much more fun to spend money on prettier things (furniture, dishes, accessories, etc.). But then again, how "pretty" are piles of dirty laundry or unmown lawns?

Enjoy your tomato! (I hope more blueberries are coming, because it would be hard for you and John to share the one. You might have to draw straws or something...)

  7. I hadn't checked my stats for awhile but after reading this on Google Reader, I went over and checked mine for yesterday.

They are down about 150 from usual. I do know the comments have been down, too.

I don't get nearly the amount of comments you do but I also have not been good about commenting on most other blogs, either.

When I get the table in My Room instead of holding the laptop on my... ummm.... lap (I don't think most people literally have the laptop on their lap) then it will be easier to comment! ;)

  9. EEEEK! And this!!!

Third party meters and refer spam...

Good freakin' grief!!! More *gobbily-gook* on the matter of Stats.

Mmmmmmm, does it make any sense, for any of us, to get our panties in a twist, trying to keep track of any Measurement of Those Viewing Our Blogs??????????????

Who is now going off line, you will be happy to hear! -giggggles-

  10. Yeah a ripening tomato!! Once they start it all happens at once.

I don't watch my stats, but I have noticed comments are down a little. I chalk it up to not having much to post about that is interesting since I am in this rental and not remodeling anything :-).

  11. My husband and I have been married for 39 years, which meant all of our appliances were about the same age and they all quit within days of each other. When purchasing a new washer a dryer a few years ago, we were told by the salesman not to expect the same lifespan on our new appliances. I'm sure he's right. They just aren't made to last as long as the old stuff.

  12. Sorry to hear about all your appliance/equipment woes, glad you have your dryer back, what a pain!

Funny your growing season is just beginning and ours is ending. Even it were not the poor plants would be scorched to death by now. It looks like autumn here with all the drought and heat, trees have dropped their leaves and I have already had to use the leaf blower to clear paths and walkways. Dipping leaves from the pool has become a daily task so the pump does not burn up. Worst summer heat wave ever!

Is that talkative enough for your Tuesday post?

Enjoy the fruits of your labor!

  13. It has been raining all night and we are so glad of it...Mac said he hoped the watermelons didn't explode! Me too because I have my eye on one of them that looks promising...the old appliance genie is due to show his ugly head here any month now...selfishly I want the stove to be the first to go...have my new one picked out lol...and no dear one I did not have my glasses on yesterday and didnt even realize I'd put you on a perch, lol

  14. Hi sweet girl!!! Funny how we like to look at those stats...I always find that summer and the beginnings of fall seem to do that ~ folks are gone on vacation or otherwise distracted by so many other things. As the weather cools and school starts it always picks up too! I'm so glad you have your new dryer! Whenever we've had a major appliance bite the dust, I'm always SO appreciative when I finally can get things "back to normal." It makes you thankful even to be able to DO the laundry! I hope you are doing so good sweet Vee, hugs and love, Dawn

  15. I don't look at my stats, but I do know that comments and visits have dropped a lot...and I pray that means others are having a fun summer and not the fact that I have nothing interesting to read

Oh yea on dryer...my washing machine died and I got to experience the frontier, well kinda of, when I washed clothes in the tub yesterday...LOL

    Have an awesome week

  16. Glad your laundry woes will soon be behind you. My washer and dryer are in the basement, too, and I understand that out of sight out of mind and the hauling stuff up and down! I still have the linens from my company to tackle. Hey, you can have my refrigerator. :0)
We're still waiting on the new part and the serviceman.
    Have a good day!

  17. I hope the poor lone blueberry finds some friends. As for tomatoes, I'm still waiting...

  19. I can of like the 'out-of-sight' thing for a laundry room. My laundry room is in our back entrance...and not always a pretty sight! Hope your new dryer proves to be all it should. And the lawn mower? Oh boy!

I harvested only a few tomatoes from my wee garden this year...and pulled out all the plants last night due to blight. I guess we just had too much rain early on. How is your raised bed working out for you?

  21. Congratulations on the new dryer! We have slowly been replacing appliances for the last few years. The stove is the last one and hopefully it will limp on for awhile. All of our lawn equipment was stolen in April so that's all new and should hold us a spell.

I don't know what a site meter is but I don't think you can really trust any of the stats. Sometimes I have more views than I think is possible so I don't pay any attention to any of it!

Sometimes when I meet up with a friend and we chat I realize she already knows all about what's going on in my life because she reads Facebook and my blog. Who would have thought??

I caught the USA Synchronized Swimming duet streaming live online Sunday morning. I just caught the free routine - again only the USA duet - on NBC yesterday morning. I only caught THAT because a former coacj posted on FB - "The duet is on NOW!" I have the TV on as I write waiting for the team routines (I hope). I love to watch all the teams - especially Spain and Russia. I did not hear the news about synchro on the Today show. My bad! I missed that one!!

  22. I rarely check my stats. Maybe if I did I'd blog or comment more and get more visitors in return. But comments and visits seem to fluctuate, with summer being a slow season.

We had to replace our washer and dryer recently, after only 9 years of service. I was not impressed and that brand with the lonely appliance man will not cross my door again.

Our blueberries are almost finished. We didn't get very many this year, but that happens sometimes. Lots of tomatoes are becoming paler and paler green each day. We'll have lots of them in September! So long to wait for ripe tomatoes.

    Enjoy your day, Vee.

  24. Things have been slow in blogland --- and it's been so hot! Everyone is busy with summer and vacations --- and it's the pits when SM doesn't work! I use three different ones too --- and none of them work like the other. It gets so confusing!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Too bad you don't live near me. You could have my dryer - as you know I don't use it. : )

I think a lot of people are away or taking blogger breaks. Though I don't have nearly the number of readers that you have, my numbers are lower than normal.

Meant to tell you how much I liked, If I were the devil!!

  26. I think visiting/commenting is down in the summer with so much going on. Vacations, gardening, etc. I've had a cranky on lately as this heat and no rain is getting to me, so I've not been much in the mood for blogging. Maybe others are feeling the same way. I don't look at stats very often because it's just so frustrating to see, for example, where I've had maybe 80 views and only 20 comments. Grrrr!!

Glad you have your new dryer now. I'm sure it's only a matter of time that mine will conk out. We've only had to replace an air conditioner thingy at our rental building this summer. And of course the new roofing on both the house and rental. So, I hope that is all for this year! Oh, I just remembered the bathroom. We have the stuff, but will have to pay the carpenter. I would love to have new carpet, but with the new kitten I think I'd better wait a while. Sorry, I didn't mean to get so talkative. I'll shut up now!

    Enjoy your day!

  27. I think we all love to check our stats. It's fun to see how many visits you have had and where they are coming from.
    Congrats on the new dryer!

  28. You have had a run of bad luck for appliances this year! I hope you like your new dryer. Our set is in the bathroom on the main floor. Not convenient to have it there as it takes up space, however, now that I'm over 60 I rather like having it just a few steps away. It was also great when the kids were little. That poor lonely blueberry. I hope more come out so you can have a feast! hugs, Pam

  29. You're sure we're not twins, mysteriously separated at birth? Well, that couldn't be since I'm a good bit older than you, but when I read about books old and new arriving all the time I certainly thought you are my soul sister! And you have a ripe tomato! So not fair! Well, my bil has hundreds and hundreds, but I'm still waiting for the cherry tomatoes on my deck to change color...Waiting and waiting. Tomatoes are such a joy this time of year. Or should be. The ones from ones own garden.

But I do like to hear about your tomato. It gives needed hope.

  30. Hi Vee - count me in on your stats! Ha! Sorry for your server issues. But, wow - you are filling your days with beauty, I see - and more to come with August's note cards coming up. I will have time next week - I hope - to catch up on some posting as I've fallen woefully behind with summer projects and deadlines! Sure missing my Blogland . . .
    Joy!

  31. Hello Vee
Murphy's Law; all the appliances break down at the same time! That happened to us a number of years back; what an expense.
Hope you get enough blueberries to share - I'd be out there eating them myself, telling the family there weren't any. :-)
    Judith

  32. I feel your pain with the dryer.... ours quit last week. It was hopeless. In a family of five with three teenagers a dryer is a must..... Oh well. We had an appliance guy tell us to plan on getting one year of use for each $100 you spend on an appliance. We paid $500 for the dryer and got 6 years out of it. He was close!

Blueberries... the birds munch on most of mine, but I collected every single blue on I could manage, one at a time, saved them in a bag in the freezer, then threw them into some homemade mixed berry jam last week. Now I feel like I had a ton of berries! =) Hopefully you will have a few more op up.

Blog traffic is a sore subject with me. I guess I'm just not that interesting. But it's ok. Hubby likes to see what all is going on while he travels and my daughter who is in college loves to go through my recipes. That makes me glad I write.

Have a wonderful week! I'm trying to get pics together for your notecard party next week. Maybe I can actually pull it off this time!

  34. If I even have a site meter, I wouldn't know where. And, I don't ever look at my blogger stats except for one thing I accidedntly noticed; I sure get a lot of "visitors" who don't leave comments. LOL

Yay for a tomato and blueberry!! :)

  35. I like these chatty posts. From the comments you certainly can tell that people are visiting!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wow - your stat meter MUST be broken - look at all these comments - congrats to you!! Why is that appliances all break down at the same time?! We are so spoiled with these conveniences that we hardly know how to cope without.
Vee - I love reading our posts and enjoy your sense of humour and insights. Here's to many more Talkative Tuesdays :).

  37. It's funny how we check those statistics! Lately, I've just been relying on the blogger statistics. I sure hate to see that graph take a nose dive, LOL. Since I don't blog every day, it goes up, down, up, down. I hope your site meter is restored soon!

Sorry that your dryer kicked the bucket. I think all of the appliances have secret conferences and decide to quit working all at the same time. Grrr!!!

I won't be doing this next card party. I'll be gone again! It seems that one thing after another keeps coming up when you have the parties. I should be able to do Sept. and Oct. though! Not Nov. Will be gone again, LOL. Such is the life of a vagabond traveler!

  39. Five years ago I gave up my mom-in-law's Whirlpool because we renovated and got matching washer/dryer. That washer had been running since 1975! We replaced it with a Whirlpool and they were amazed! Sorry to hear you had to replace all those appliances . . .

    Who cares about stats!

  40. Vee dear, DON'T check your stats!!! What is the point? You can't change what IS (or isn't).

  41. Hi Vee!! Your blog is a great find! I love the upbeat sharing and how did you get the words on the photos? I'm impressed!! I will be back! I relate to feeling like my house looked like a laundry..I was up and down steps yesterday also!! Oh the mundaine! Thanks for providing a great site!

  42. Vee, with all these comments you must be getting many visitors!

I've had to replace my frig, stove, and microwave in the past few year and I'm hoping my washer and dryer can continue to limp along a bit longer. My daughter had a brand new "water saver" washer installed in her house that was very modern with all the bells and whistles....I was very impressed by how it worked! She loves it after years of hauling clothes to the laundrymat!
