The sweet factor was over the top so I kept using the lemons to visually cut it back a bit.
I love lemons!
Cupcakes and cookies, too.
Chocolate wafer cake for dessert...
with wee chocolate hearts cut from Andes mints.
Yes, I did serve other food. This barbecue rib recipe and this ham and cheese slider recipe and salad and a salsa dip. No photos of that, but it was all yummy.
(It was a pure terror having someone else in the house with a camera, too. Now I have had two things reinforced: 1. stay on the diet 2. get something done with my hair!)
any time you need a house guest & a taste tester - i would be more than happy & glad to help you all out. so yummy looking. i love lemons but always wonder what lemons do to my teeth? have a great weekend ( :
ReplyDeleteYou know Vee, about the time I'm sitting with a coffee and my iPad each morning, up pops your daily post. I quite enjoy sharing this morning ritual to read what's on your mind.
ReplyDeleteLots of goodies for your VD celebration with family, I over indulged myself. The suntan logic works for our family too, the second day in Mexico, daughter #2 emailed to say was burned already.
Have a good one.
Judith

ReplyDeleteSweet indeed! Everything looks delicious. I wanted to make the wafer cookies but ran out of time, I did make cupcakes for our little party.

Glad the sliders were enjoyed!
Deanna
Your Valentine photos looked soooo pretty. I love lemons too, and those were very nice ones. We've talked about going away to a warmer place early in the year, but I fear the contrast would be more than I could handle! :D Lose weight, keep hair done....got ya. When you've figured out how to do that let me know. I need help!
ReplyDeleteDebbie
Someone else with a camera, in the house! -gigggles-
ReplyDeleteGoodness gracious, great balls of fire! What a spread you put on, for the returning travelers. And the stay-at-home-folk too. :-) Wowooooowwoowww!
And such lovely photo ops, they made!
Plus, I LOVE your new Header pic!
All kinds of wins here, on this 2/15th post. :-)))))))))
Oh a trip to some place warmer sounds like fun! I'm trying to talk hubby into FL next month...only because Andre Rieu is giving concerts there. :) I'd so love to see a live concert, but the tickets are probably already sold out by now.
ReplyDeleteYour Valentine Day food looks delightful! Cute idea for the wafer cookies.
Everything looks so festive and welcoming! Love the chocolate wafer cake. Mmmmmm. Glad they arrived safe and sound. Love that photo of you and John. ;-) xo
ReplyDeleteOh my...that is a good reminder to me that cameras will be poised on me again soon and I better do something about that...starting now!!
ReplyDeleteLove your sweet treats that you've shown. Those dipped wafers are very cute!

ReplyDeleteI'd like to follow you on Pintrest, but couldn't find you?
Enjoy your weekend!
Leann
You sure do know how to welcome the travelers back home in a festive and tasty way. I believe your photo of the pink cookies and cupcakes belongs in Victoria magazine.
ReplyDeleteYou made me laugh in your last paragraph. You are being too hard on yourself. I think you look great.
Wow. Just look at all those decadent desserts! They looks so good. We haven't been baking much here which is probably a good thing, but we have had lots of chocolates to taste to make up for it. We did bake cupcakes and there are 2 left. I'm glad your family had a fun and safe trip. It would be a change which is as good as a rest, so they say. Another storm coming on Sunday for the Maritimes. Are you in it's path too? Take care.
ReplyDeleteYup. ☺
DeleteOh my that all looks so good. I'm just about to go and start cooking dinner and now I'm really hungry. : )
ReplyDeleteGlad they had a good time in Puerto Rico.
The base we lived on has been closed for quite a few years now.
Oh, look at your presentation with all of those lovely desserts! (Love the wafer cookies, dipped and sprinkled!) I'll be those treats made it a bit easier to slip back into regular life after a warm, sunny vacation.
ReplyDeleteHa! "Terror" describes it pretty well! Although Kati is kind enough to keep the worst ones "our little secret."
When Bekah was about 4 or 5, she wanted a camera, and we got her a Fisher Price digital camera for Christmas. Mistake. Think photo taken from behind as you walk up the stairs (pun intended.) Or while you are taking a nap on the sofa. Yeah. Mistake.
Ack...please move the period to outside the parentheses!

Hi Vee, wow, what a celebration. Everyone must have loved it. You have a real flair for photos, I always feel like I'm right there with you. Have a wonderful weekend. More snow is coming. ~ abby
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, everything looks sooooooo good!!!! After looking at all your goodies I'm off to have another piece of my strawberry cake :)
ReplyDeleteI love cakes and lemons, I always put lemon juice on my vegetables gives them a bit of bite, add cakes are just good.
ReplyDeleteMerle......
Oh my goodness, the desserts are so beautiful and delicious looking. I'm on a diet and not eating sweets or drinking anything but water or unsweetened tea.... I'm a basket case. I need sugar!!!
ReplyDeleteYou are beautiful, Vee!!! The only thing I can see (actually I can't SEE!!) that you 'forgot' is the Virtual Fireplace!
ReplyDeleteWhat a welcome home!! I love it!
Hi Vee,
ReplyDeleteYour primroses still look so pretty. I really must get some for our house; they are just so cheerful. I love lemons, too! I love anything lemon -- cakes, pies, lemonade, candy. I almost like it better than chocolate. Not only does your food look delicious, but it's as pretty as a picture. You are very talented.
It sounds like you had a wonderful evening filled with good food and good company. I hope you have a great weekend!
Hugs,
Denise at Forest Manor
Sounds like you had a very sweet valentines day!
ReplyDeleteHi Vee!
ReplyDeletewhat a lovely feast! The desserts look soooo good. I've never thought about dipping the sugar wafers - love the idea. And cutting hearts out the Andes candies is right there with it! Your photos are so professional looking as always. And don't worry - I'm on that eternal diet with you! A constant battle. I love food - especially sweets - why couldn't I love veggies more?
The mysteries of life!
Warm winter hugs, Sherry
That sounds like quite a spread! The desserts look good especially the wafers - so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI counted the calories!! God bless you...
ReplyDeleteJust because you put a lemon in there does not change the outcome!
Sounds yummy!
ReplyDeleteOh, yes... and I have found that the other person with the camera always manages to snap my picture from the worst possible angle.
You look wonderful, Vee! It sounds like your sister and family had a fantastic vacation. Your welcome home dinner and desserts must have made them smile :)
ReplyDeleteThe weather has been so nice here the past few days (in the high 50's and 60's during the day) that it almost felt like spring!
Never have I experienced such a special Valentine's Day celebration of homemade goodies! What a wonderful way to celebrate the day and the return of your sister and her family from their travels.
ReplyDeleteNow I'm hungry!
Quite the 'Valentine Postscript' post...with all those goodies. Though I missed out on V-day while traveling (they were celebrating Chinese New Year over there...not Valentine's Day)...I got a good dose of the Valentine feeling right here.
ReplyDeleteI read through all the posts that I missed while away...and snagged the quote on friendship while I was here. I really like that!
My crocuses are bloomimg...as are the pansies. I'm hoping we won't have any more snow to shovel this year (not that we've had any to speak of). It looks to me like John has been on a rigorous snow-moving fitness program!
