One hundred ninety-six miles later and we were home again where I found this beautiful card from Kari waiting for me. It's so gorgeous and the photo doesn't quite do it justice. Thank you so much, Kari! I simply love it. Imagine it perched in my header because that's where it is between the posies and the pumpkin.
This is going to be such a photo rich post that I will try not to make it text rich as well. Here's the basic story...John felt that the foliage would be better north of here so we struck off for Rangeley via
's hometown. You'll see the theater where he got his start and a picture of the Municipal Office. (No, I don't know him, but I know a number of people who do. It's a two degrees of separation thing.)
A detour high on a ridge provided some of my favorite pics of the day of wagons and mums and pumpkins. We stopped to pick up Italians at Jack's and then went to Sandy River for a picnic. We climbed through the forest to find the old swimming hole where I used to allow my children to jump thirty feet for a dip...ackkkk!
The foliage was much better north of here and, because of construction on Rt.4, we were able to enjoy it even more. We hadn't realized that Rt.4 is a dead end at a boat marina on Rangelely Lake, but we found our way again past Suzanne's vegetable stand over Height of Land and then made our way home. Basically, we traveled in a big circle. The day ended with ice cream, as all perfect days do, and the local Farmer's Market.
We had a fun day! Thanks for looking at my pictures. You may click on any to enlarge. Since Blogger is really smoking after all this uploading, I may not post for a few days, but I'll be around to visit you soon.
ETA on August 17, 2016: This is the first selfie we took and perhaps the only selfie. And, for the record, I had no idea it was called a "selfie" way back in 2008. I didn't like this photo much then, but it has grown on me since. We took so few photos together...less than a dozen.
What a glorious group of photos! You sure do live in a beautiful place. (The handsome P.D. not excluded) Thank you for sharing your day with us. What fun to get a peak at the "newlyweds". ~Kathy
ReplyDeleteLook at the picnic settting!! Woo hoo. I didn't know I was operating a vegetable stand. Hmmmmm, the profits are being funneled somewhere else for sure. It looks like you had a lovely trip and the best photo of all is the one of the NEWLYWEDS.
ReplyDeleteAll the best to you and your groom Vee.
- Suzanne, the Farmer's Wife without a vegetable stand.
Beautiful pictures, Vee! It looks like you had great weather for your fall outing...our sunshine is taking a bit of a break.
ReplyDeleteWishing you and yours many more picnics together...whatever the season.
Beautiful pics....lovely drive.... thanks. Still plenty of green around....
ReplyDeleteI must get out there.... and capture a few shots of some fall colours....
How fun! So it really is fall after all? It is still quite hot here in the southern regions and the leaves are still their summery green! My very favorite pic is the very last one on you and your groom! I see we share the same tradition of ending our day trips with ice cream!
ReplyDeleteLast weekend we drove up to Mt. Nebo and it was quite beautiful. I didn't share pics because it was very hazy at that elevation the day we went. We picnicked beside a beautiful lake and strolled through one of those ancient little towns with quaint shops, spending a grand total of $1.00 at a flea market! We ended the day with homemade ice cream in waffle cones! The weather was perfect and so was the company. I love seeing your trips!
Now, send me some fall!
Vee, your foliage pictures are just wonderful. . I've always heard that your part of the world is the best for color in fall. . .We are not really coloring too much here yet and now it is raining which doesn't help the color at all .. the leaves need cold dry weather, which we are not really known for. . so I enjoyed seeing yours. . .
ReplyDeleteWow, lots of great pictures. Looks like you had a wonderful fall day outing! Great weather, a picnic and a day ending with ice cream!! What could be better!!
ReplyDeleteIn answer to your question - I don't walk if the temperature gets to single digits or if it's too icy.
Oh how we can't wait for the trees to start turning up here! Thanks for those glimpses of pure fall heaven!!

Hi Vee & John!
ReplyDeleteYou both look like you had such a wonderful time! Going up to New England to look at the fall folliage is always one of my favorite things to do in autumn. It's always so pretty up there!
Hugs, Pat
Hi Vee,
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos! Fall looks beautiful where you are. There is nothing better than a picnic in the fall with the one you love. You two look so sweet in that last picture!

ReplyDeleteI very much enjoyed my road trip with you, thank you. The lake was so peaceful and still looking. I hope to visit your state sometime. It is on my agenda to experience. I am so envious of all the leaves and pretty colors I have heard about my whole life through.
ReplyDeleteWow what a beautiful Romantic day the two of you shared..Have a wonderful weekend..m..

An ex New England gal :(
Sounds like such a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful photos. I really enjoyed seeing the sites along with you. It took me a moment to realize that our subs are your Italians. Reading the sentence where you picked up the Italians makes me giggle.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you liked the card. I'm positively green, gold and orange with envy over your fall foliage and picnic day! Looks and sounds like heaven to me. All our trees are still green - except the ones who have died from thirst (ha) - so I'm really enjoying seeing the fall pictures from other parts of the world. Keep it up!
ReplyDeleteKari
Thank you for sharing this spectacular day. I truly enjoyed the pics and that looks to me like the perfect day. Glad you planned a nice picnic and took the time to enjoy, very pretty!
ReplyDeleteMy dear friend Vee, thank you ever so much for your prayers and for always leaving such lovely comments...I always enjoy hearing from you and checking in to see what you are up to! My, was that a glorious day you had with hubby, out in the midst of God's glory. Your picnic table makes me hungry for some Italians! I am always game for any Italian food, (me being Italian and all!) LOVED the darling picture of you and your sweetheart....Loved the sparkle of joy in your eyes!
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment on my blog. Believe it or not, you can make your own Pumpkin shake with just vanilla ice cream and pumpkin pie filling out of the can (just be careful not to use too much pumpkin pie filling cause it can take a turn for the bitter).
Good luck! They are delicious - although I'm fairly certain our local ice cream joint is better... I swear they put something addictive in those pumpkin shakes. =)
Great and interesting pics Vee. Loved the changing colours in the trees.
ReplyDeleteJohn's shirt a real contrast to the check table cloth.
Beautiful photos! I especially like the waterfall pictures and where you had your picnic looks just gorgeous! The leaves haven't started changing yet here.
ReplyDeleteManuela

Hi Vee
ReplyDeleteI heard on the news tonight that you will be getting Hurricane Kyle up there tomorrow! Batten down the hatches and stay safe!
Hugs, Pat
I don't know about tomorrow, Pat, but we're sure getting something tonight. Thanks for the good wishes!
ReplyDeleteHello Vee, thank you so much for stopping by my blog while I have been away. I have enjoyed catching up on your posts and this one especially gets me right in the mood for fall. These past two weeks I have only had internet access one day, and it has become quite clear to me that I needed this break. I have truly missed my blogging friends and will slowly ease back into blogging (I hope) in the coming days. Thanks for sharing from yours and John's trip through the beautiful countryside.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Christi
You still look like newlyweds in love....it's priceless! :D
ReplyDeleteTee hee, thank you for sharing your beautiful fall pictures! It looks like you had a wonderful trip, I'm sure it went by fast. My prayers are with you as the hurricane comes your way.
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Kathi :)

The most perfect day! I loved seeing all the pictures and hearing about it all...
ReplyDeleteJust such a happy day with a happy couple!
Hugs,
Sue
Love all the photos but especially the one with the two of you. Less than a dozen photos together ... you know, in thinking about it, I'm not sure we have a whole lot more than that. Possibly two dozen over the years. Of course one of those is courtesy of you!
