Thank you so much! What a big help you all are. I spent the evening gathering a list. I provided a link if I was unfamiliar with the movie or if I found something of interest. (Though my links don't show up clearly, just mouse over them to see those you might be interested in. Many are linked.)

Will anyone be watching Carrie Underwood in *The Sound of Music* this Thursday at 8 on NBC? I'm looking forward to it! (No, this is not a paid advertisement. ☺)

There were many wonderful songs suggested and I knew all of them until I read "Let it Be Christmas" by Alan Jackson. I'm also providing the video below if you'd like to watch the sweet illustrations.

Decorating around here has fallen into the category of It Needs a Little Somethin' and I can prove it.

Case closed! Hope that things are going better your way!

  1. I like your simple touches of decorating! I think it makes a bigger impact than being overwhelmed with decorations. I've seen too many cases (including my own) where it looks like somebody "threw up" Christmas all over the place, LOL.

  2. Goodness, you've put a lot of effort into sharing the Christmas movies Vee and it is fun to see the list.
I have The Sound of Music set to record on Thursday and am looking forward to watching it. I saw this musical on stage in Toronto a few years ago and it was amazing.
I think you could use a few more decorative touches, just a few, mind you. ;-)

  4. I read your post yesterday and wanted to come up with a list of favorites. The truth is I adore many different types of Christmas music and it is impossible to narrow it down. It would probably be easier for me to list my least favorites :D.
Thanks for taking the time to compile this list of movies. I plan to check out the ones I haven't seen.
You made me laugh about your decorating. Oh how I can relate.

  5. I am soo glad you put this list together....there are a few I am going to have to check out. But! I am even happier you reminded me about Carrie and the Sound of Music! I would have just flipped to have missed it! LOVE her and that movie! Soooo a great big thank you this morning! Enjoy the rest of your day!

  6. I love so many of those movies on the list! I forgot about While You Were Sleeping!

Thanks for the list and the links.

    Now get busy decorating!

  7. That is a great list of movies! I don't see White Christmas with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. That is one of my favorite movies. Off to finish my decorating!

    1. You're right! I'd add it, but my computer is skitzy and won't let me. I got mixed up and thought that Holiday Inn and White Christmas are one and the same. They aren't!

  8. Oh! And yes I am going to watch The Sound of Music! Looking forward to it!

  9. Love those Christmas movies although I don't know some of them. I am so out of it I didn't realize Carrie Underwood was going to be on- I will watch it for sure. I am so far behind in my Holiday preparations that I can't believe it- Working on it today- at least I got the tree up and decorated last night- xo Diana

  10. We probably won't watch Sound of Music, my hubby has an aversion to musicals, lol. Maybe some lights and sparkle with your decorations? You know, a little glitter makes everything happy :>)

  11. Thank you for the list! There are several that are new to me! I will head over to Netflix and see what is available.

Decorating. I love Christmas decorating...and I have a little project going on here that raises the bar this year. And yet, time and inspiration have been on the low end this season. What a quandary. Right now, we're betwixt and between...some areas entirely done, some totally blank. Maybe I'll be inspired today...

  12. Thank you for that list Vee. So often we sit here and wonder which Christmas movie to watch and many of those we haven't seen.
We had our small group event last night. We did a progressive dinner and it was so much fun. All of the homes were decorated and we all agreed that hosting gave us the incentive to get it done. Now all is left to enjoy the advent season and focus on what matters most.

  13. If anyone is looking to read a book to their kids or gkids I suggest 2 by Gail Rock. The Thanksgiving Treasure and House Without a Christmas Tree. Wonderful lessons in values and the importance of family. I read them every year to my fourth and 5 th grade classes and they loved them. They were made into Hallmark movies too.
Not much progress on decorating here!

    1. Oh and what about The Best Christmas Pageant Ever? I read that to my class many a year!

    2. That is good too, the others I mentioned gave the class more life lessons and sparked great conversations. Have you read them?

    3. No, but I have The House Without A Christmas Tree ordered!

  14. Thanks for the list. There are a lot that I would have never remembered for sure. What's done is done except for the tree at this old house. Oh...and I have to have Dear put up my nativity flag in the window of our shop/garage...

  15. So many movies to watch, so little time! I see several on the list that I don't think I've ever seen. My daughter reminded me yesterday that it was only 3 weeks until Christmas and I haven't gotten one thing done toward decorating yet. (She didn't say that last part.) I hope by the weekend that it's all done. We'll see.

  16. Oh wow, Vee...that is so sweet of you to do all of that research and compile this list! And you found "The Gathering"! My hubby and I watched "The Homecoming", the original Walton's movie on Thanksgiving Day...I just love it. It was on the UP Network (DirecTV) ...it used to be called GMC or something. They have good faith-based movies on all the time. Oh and yes....the Best Little Christmas Pageant Ever...I love this one too...there are SO many! We have the DVR set for the Sound of Music since my hubs has to work and will miss it. Thanks again for this fun post!

  17. This is a great list, Vee. Something to refer to in the next few weeks. Tim has been working such long days lately, and then in the shop with our son in the evenings on Christmas projects. I suggested before he left this morning (at 6:30 am) that we watch a Christmas movie tonight. He won't get home until 6, but we can have trays in the living room, and perhaps I'll build a fire, too.

Decorating has come to a standstill here. BUT, we have guests coming for dinner on Friday night, so that's an incentive. Today is the day to leave the sewing machine alone and decorate!

  18. Well, thank-you for putting up the list. I'll be back here to check it out over the next month, for sure. The sad part is that I may have to google some of those titles to determine if I have actually seen the movie...or not! My memory is not always that good when it comes to book titles and movie titles...and I find myself picking out movies and books that I have already seen.

As for decorating...I have done a bit of this and a bit of that but need to finish it up this week. It always feels good to have it done...put on the Christmas music and enjoy!

  19. I haven't done much decorating either. Thanks for all the movie ideas. I love to watch them while painting!

  20. Thank you for the list, Vee. I have to tell you that I still have Emmett Otter and the Jug Band
Christmas on VHS. I think that's the sweetest cartoon movie.
    Happy decorating! xo

  21. What a wonderful list, Vee! There are a few of my favs there along with a few I haven't heard of before (but will definitely look for!). My decorating is proceeding slowly and I'm hoping we'll get out tree next week. xo

  22. Thank you (and to all who helped) for the list of movies. I have the Alan Jackson CD and it's wonderful.

    Your new header is wonderful.

  23. BTW, I got a chuckle out of the snow person (man? woman?) in your header that is standing on its head!

  24. Oh you can be sure I'll be watching The Sound of Music. I saw the "behind the scenes" special on it and it is so amazing that it will be a live performance. It will be like the musical, not the movie, so there will be some differences. The movie came out a mere 48 years ago and we knew every song by heart. I love hearing my granddaughter sing Do a Dear etc … Thanks for the movie list!

  25. That's quite a collection of Christmas movies!!
I got all my cards written out today. : )
Keep forgetting to answer your coin question. No, I don't have a good place for finding them here. I do check out the little parking lots around town but don't find much. The liquor store where I used to live was a great place!! I really got coin lucky during November!

  26. I can give you one more really good movie. Sam Elliott in Prancer. We always try to see this one at Christmastime.

    ReplyDelete
  27. What a great list Vee! A great resource to come back to.
I can't quite put my finger on my lack of enthusiasm for decorating this year - ugh!!! It has to happen this weekend so that I can relax and start getting my heart ready for the season. Maybe I should invite some people over like Lovella did - I seem to work best under pressure. You've got a good start on your's the way it looks to me. Any advice you can send me for some incentive would be welcome over here!

  28. Quite a few of those movies were new to me! I'll have to check them out. I did not hear much country music on the radio in NYC so this song is new to me too. Country music is popular here so I will probably hear it often this season :)

Besides Annie, The Sound of Music was my daughter's favorite movie when she was growing up. We know all the words to every song..lol I'm not sure I'll like a different, more modern version My hubby comes home tomorrow night and we will have to begin decorating the house. I can't drag up all the bins from. the basement myself. I did shovel by myself today --6 inches off a 3 car garage driveway! We are getting a gas snow blower this weekend..lol!

  29. Oh, you must have been busy finding all those movies Vee. What a great list. I have seen a few of them and there are some I'd love to see. I would love to see The Sound of Music on tv but we don't get any American channels. I'm sure Carrie Underwood will be fantastic in it. The original Sound of Music is a wonderful classic and is usually played on tv near Christmas. A good evening to you.

  30. What a great list. There are a few here that I've never seen so I'll be on the lookout for them. And I hope I can remember to tune in to the Sound of Music when it airs. It sounds good and I like Carrie Underwood. Enjoy your evening! Hugs!

  31. Your little window corner looks so cozy !

  32. Thank you, Vee! I'll be referring to that list a few times over the holidays!

  33. You are so sweet Vee! Thank you so much for the links :). Here we don't get such movies in DVD format.

  34. Love the list! One movie I like that I just bought on DVD last year (cheap) is A Christmas Romance. It stars Olivia Newton-John as a widow with two young girls who has to take in the banker who has driven to the mountains to repossess their house after he has an accident in the snow. Typical sappy (probably) made for TV movie as the banker comes to realize the importance of simplicity after spending time with the family but I liked it. :)

The Christmas movie I've watched a couple times this year already is An Avonlea Christmas. It is one of my favorites with the scenes of Prince Edward Island. My daughter did not care for it even though she adored the TV series Avonlea because of the underlying theme of WWI. But it has lovely scenery and a great message even if she didn't like it!

  35. Hi Vee!

Love your list of movies! This time of year all the dvd's come out that have anything to do with Christmas and my radio station is tuned to Christmas music all the time. I can't help it... it just happens that way every year. One of our favs is Christmas Story. Our oldest son was just like Ralphie and our youngest a lot like Randy! Even our friends would tell us that. So it's one of our family's Christmas Day highlights.

Thanks for all the great links! Blessings, Edie Marie

  36. Hello Vee,
Love a lot of these movies. Will look up the rest, for I love Christmas movies. Thank you for listing them. I know that takes time.
I love Allen Jackson and I do have this Christmas song. He is the bomb. I love him.

As for decorating. All I've done was put out Christmas towels.
not that I have been doing anything.I have been decorating and putting up my Cmas village. But not in my house...LOL...TRUE...With that...
I would like to invite you to Sherry and my Blog. We have a special post for you to see.

  37. We watched "Christmas Vacation" with my kids and my parents, and I found myself embarrassed and shaking my head through parts I'd forgotten. I much prefer the wholesome type!
