Gosh you make Wednesdays so much fun around here with the Downton Abbey discussion. I really enjoyed reading all the comments that came in and responding to them and trying to get you to continue the discussion. If you haven't checked back, feel free. Some folks have very interesting ideas and observations!

Today, how's about some pretty pictures without too much commentary? (I have grands getting out of school at noon and I must hustle.)
Dear Diane, who blogs privately, sent me this beautiful magazine.
I sat down to read immediately and the next day created myself a little photo opportunity.
I smiled to think that the Clementine sticker could work as a Valentine's Greeting. Gotta love serendipity.
This article was very intriguing and helpful.
Who doesn't also love Downton Abbey for the beauty of its rooms and the color of its walls? I have been taking note of this bedroom color for weeks now.
Cora says: I just appreciate that they matched the wall color to my eyes.
This article is based on a new book coming out about The Real Downton Abbey and features the woman who was really living in the Abbey in this time period. She's very lovely and that little boy. Is he the "real George"?
Hope that the weather is moderating where you are. It's just beginning to crank up here.
A lovely day to you...
*I am such a trickster! ☺
Very pretty blog post (as usual) today. Their saying (the little buggers that are called forecasters) that the jet stream has moved, and us in western NY will get some of that nasty "s" word.."nasty" is my word for the day..because we sure don't need anymore of the "s" word..and it's not sugar, lol.
ReplyDeleteGreat post here today, Vee. I will be anxious to hear the "real" Downton Abbey story. I have a grandbaby here today, too. It is snowing a bit again but warming to 26 degrees today- Whooopeeee!! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThe daughter staying with us right now has just become interested in DA and loves it, but is only on season 2. She was dying to see a bit of the episode I watched Sunday and couldn't believe the changes.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed the Victorian Homes photo, I'm such a magazine junkie. The Valentine wishes from the orange is cute, who knew there would be messages amongst the groceries! ;-)
Walked around Universal Studios all day yesterday, went on rides I don't need to ever see again and found myself plain worn out by the end of the day. A wicked storm of thunder, lightening and rain on the 2 hr. drive home and only 55 with high winds today. The grandkids are keeping us, and their parents hopping.
Judith
Lovely post today. I love those bedroom walls too! Have fun with your grands!
ReplyDeleteI've not been able to join the DA discussions as I'm not caught up yet. Maybe while we're snowbound I'll make it a higher priority
ReplyDeleteYour tea time photos are so pretty today. Constant Comment and cuties are a winning combination. How thoughtful of Diane to send the magazine for you to enjoy along with them.
That bedroom color is gorgeous.
Enjoy your day with the grands. I hope the weather doesn't crank up too much for you. It has been wild here. Several hours of snow yesterday turning to several more hours of sleet and now back to snow and lots of it. I'm just thankful the power is still on.
Pretty pictures! Love the comment about Cora. And btw, personally, I think she's the weak link in the entire show. Just sayin' :-)
ReplyDeleteYou will find what I think about that here: http://ahavenforvee.blogspot.com/2013/02/some-items-of-business-and-downton.html
DeleteI think Robert and Cora are "the very glue" of the show.
Very pretty pictures! The color just pops out, especially with the orange. I really like that bedroom wall color too, I've been thinking for the past year about painting our bedroom a similar color. It's just so much work because I paint alone! Nice post Vee! Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteVery nice photos. I love the color of the walls in Cora and Robert's room too. I may re-watch the episodes just to look ate room colors!
ReplyDeleteWe are in the midst of our storm still probably 9 inches so far. Tim made it to work and we are getting a bit of sleet mixed in right now. Should snow all day.
Deanna
What a lovely magazine! I have this blue in a couple of my rooms....I call it a slate blue and love it. I have bright blue eyes and wear a lot of blue. Do you notice how much purple and lavender they wear in the show? Hope your weather isn't too bad! Take care! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteBecause I have house guests, I haven't yet watched last week's episode, so decided to save yesterday's discussion until I've done so. I've read just about every book that's come out on Highclerc Castle and on past chatelaines - so very interesting! Have fun with the grands!
ReplyDeleteDownton Abbey is taking over! YeeHaw! Something to keep us inside with our tea. Lovely magazine -- I'll have to keep a look out.
ReplyDeleteAh, I think you are practicing for the next photo challenge! With beautiful photos like these, I want to hear no whining out of you this month, LOL. The still life composition of that second photo is spot on! I love blue in a bedroom. Our master bedroom is painted a color called silver lining. We picked it and had it at our last home, and enjoyed it there for 17 years. We love it so much that we used it again here. How many people can say that they have loved a particular paint color for over 20 years? It's not as blue-blue as the Downton Abbey color, but has a hint of grey to it.
ReplyDeleteI love that color for a bedroom too. Our power keeps coming on and off. Yikes I will be so happy to see March come in... Have a good day...
ReplyDeleteLove your valentine greeting sticker! I have seen the book at Costco and almost picked it up the other day. Perhaps I still will read about the really Mary at Downton. Wishing you a wonderful week end!
ReplyDeleteA lovely post! I missed yesterdays because I babysat all day for Stephen at my daughter's house. She is coordinating a two day event at school when the Center of Science and Industry people from Columbus are there giving presentations. It will be a bit until I can really catch up, but I want to paint my house now!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy this magazine so much, I am getting more intrigued by the day of DA! Enjoy your day and those grandboys! One more round of snow for us today, three inches, and then the great warmup!Whoopee!
ReplyDeleteI need to check out that magazine, if I can ever get out. We are snowed in at the moment. I love the color of those walls.
ReplyDeleteOh what a fun treat to get from a sweet friend. I love that blue wall color too.
ReplyDeleteJust in from shoveling - we have well over a foot already and it's still going strong!
Be safe!
Leann
I also like the color of the bedroom walls.
ReplyDeleteNice photos.
Have fun in the snow today with the kids. : )
Snowing like crazy here again!!
I think I have to watch each episode three times - once for the story, once for the fashion, and once for the decor. That's a gorgeous color for a bedroom.
ReplyDeleteHave a good time sledding with your grands.
We just painted our entry way that colour of blue. It is nice.
ReplyDeleteI like your tea vignette, it looks magazine worthy I would say.
One of the changes I noticed on DA is that the women are wearing tops and skirts for day wear, not dresses. But the Dowager does not!
Have fun with the g'boys.
You always manage to create the most interesting and pretty settings for pictures. Even though the article wasn't about the show, anything Downton Abbey makes me think of you.
ReplyDeleteI just did a crash course in Downton Abbey. My son gave me the box set of the first season for Christmas. I finished watching it and then finally yesterday I finished catching up on the 4th season that I had recorded. You could say that I'm now addicted to this program. Stay warm!
ReplyDeleteI meant the box set of the first three seasons.
ReplyDeleteHope it doesn't crank up too much for you. The company Dear works for lost a million or more dollars with the Atlanta mess yesterday. They have a plant there. Love that color of blue in the bedroom...
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to belong to the Downton Abbey cult and come to your lovely blog. XOXO
ReplyDeleteSure, I thought your haven was being featured! The other Victoria mag also featured DA in its current issue. Have you seen that PBS special on castles, including DA? You may find it with a search. It was interesting. Anyway, your personal photo shoot is very good.
ReplyDeleteI saw that show you are referring to...very interesting. I think you might be referring to the one about Highclear (sp?) Castle and the couple who live there. They actually seemed like nice folks!
DeleteI love everything Victorian-ish :) The first thing I thought about the next to the last picture was that the woman looked like Edith.
ReplyDeleteI will have to get that book!! I have not seen any of the show...who can jump into the middle and understand..not me. :)xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteI can't quite decide whether or not to delve into the Downton Abbey world. So far, I haven't had much trouble staying away, seeing as how I'd have to search out the series I've missed from the beginning because, like Susie said, I can't just jump in now and understand what's going on. I really thought from your title that you were having a photo shoot at your house and my next thought was that I wondered what your mother would have thought about that! :)
ReplyDeleteI like the look, but this is a place full of servants so much work it you had to do it all yourself.
ReplyDeleteMerle...........
i used to get that magazine all the time. love how you displayed the photos with "tape". xo
ReplyDeleteClapping wildly ~ love it !
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentines Day Vee .
I do want to pick up that issue if I can ever get out of the house :) The power is back on here and the snow is melting - hopefully that the end of it for us. I can't take much more!
ReplyDeleteI thought the deep emerald green paint in Mary's room was intense but so true to the era. I hadn't noticed that Cora's eyes did match the wall colors. Cool!
ReplyDeleteThis magazine issue would be quite interesting. I must see if I can locate one. I also like the wall colour in the bedroom and have been thinking of redoing ours even though it was only painted a little over 2 years ago. I hope you stay safe in that storm. It sounds like NB is in for a nasty night and day too. Happy Valentine's Day to you and John. Hugs. Pam (I'm on here because the wee ones are being wooed to sleep) :)
ReplyDeleteI'm new to your blog. I see you have a big DA party going on over here! Might have to join in! Looks like a lot of fun,
ReplyDeleteI'll have to look for that magazine, it looks so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThe article looks interesting, and we enjoy the show and reading about English history too.
