Robins' Return

♪Robin's Return♪
Some of the comments on the piece of music above are remarkably like my own might be. My grandmother played this piece often and beautifully.

~April 9, 2014~

And I may or may not have wept to see the robins on the lawn yesterday. *Sniff* Goodness, it has been a long, wearying winter.

Seeing them was as if I realized how long after trying to be so upbeat. I felt, watching the robins, the way I did coming in from spending time outside with the boys in February and beyond. I'd not be aware how very cold I was until coming in and starting to get warm. It was then, as I was sipping my tea, that I would begin to shiver.

Same story seeing the robins and realizing that spring might really be here close. I began to realize just how miserable, just how rotten, just how precarious our situation has been. And it was also then that I saw how faithful God has been through it all.

A big thanks to all who are sharing your spring with those of us who are still in the tundra. Believe me, it is a joy to see and I am only turning the mildest shade of green.

  1. Happy Spring, Vee -- the robins say it is so!

  2. Spring this year is like a light at the end of the long tunnel of winter. Each day our snow diminishes a bit more and I'm watching closely for activity in the garden. As much as we had to persevere the last few months, I feel sorry for our furry and winged friends for what they had to endure.

  3. I feel the same way Vee. I was watching two sparrows having a great time playing 'catch me if you can' this morning and took delight in their antics. One stopped long enough to sing a little song then was off again. Such joy! I love your robin photos. You have much less snow there so they can actually be on your lawn! Have a blessed day.

  6. You have written so poignantly. I am feeling your heart as I read. Longing for spring has been palpable this year, hasn't it? I know that every year we are ready for spring and for green and for light...but this year has been different. I can well imagine the joy you felt at this evidence of spring's coming, and I can relate to the "after" feeling of realization. That "after" feeling that comes with weather and with trials of all kinds.

    Warm spring hugs to you...

  7. It is a welcome sight indeed. I've lived in places that had a serious winter season....but now I'm not sure I could go back. When it gets cool and rainy...I get moody and want to go back to bed and pull the covers over my head! lol The sunshine definitely lifts my spirits. I can take some cool temps but I need my sunshine! Sending you warm hugs this morning! And thanks for the ideas. I'm collecting ideas now! hehe! HUGS!

  8. Hi Sweet Vee,

I'm so glad you've had this cheerful sight today, everyone needs to see that spring really is on its way. Even here in N.C., we've had a long, rough winter (relatively speaking). Our son, who is renting a house in a nearby town with two friends, had a BIG gas bill in February due to all the cold, cold temps here this winter. We had a few ice storms in March, and there were trees down all over our neighborhood, indeed all over town. You did a great job of remaining upbeat; I LOVED seeing your pictures of the luge and reading about the boys having fun with it. :)

Do you notice your male robins fighting a lot? Around here, we see them flying and hopping at each other and being quite territorial this time of year. We now have some gold finches at our feeders, which is a sign of spring for us. We're excited to have them, since they don't always visit our house. They're picky eaters, and you never know what they will eat from one year to the next. :)

    Have a wonderful, spring-dreaming day!

    Hugs,

    Denise at Forest Manor

  9. Oh YAY YAY YAY to the arrival of the robins! And JOY JOY JOY to the glimpses and promises of spring. Just as surely as we can count on the each new day to dawn we can count on those seasons to change and God to warm our hearts with His beauty. LOVE the song! Enjoy your day sweet Vee and may they get warmer and warmer.

  10. Vee,
I know you are so glad to see your robin friends...My hope is that you will soon experience the warmth of spring temps.. and I will stop complaining that it is only in the 40's in the morning here since we warm up in the afternoons to 60's...Stay warm my friend...It is very near...
    Love, Mona

  11. Dear Vee, I love Robins, my Hubby came in last week and said come see there are two Robins outside. We don't see many of them on the praire. I am still listening for the sound of the singing of our Meadowlarks!
Now, those birds can sing! I was just writing a snail mail letter to a friend and I told her I have had a revelation of the term Snow Birds... Blessings to you, and you do have a very warm heart!! Roxy

  14. Oh, I know how you feel Vee. It was such a joy to see the robins arrive here last week. Spring is slowly arriving.

  15. Vee, how wonderful to see the ground there...and those robins! Rejoicing with you, friend!

  16. I am so glad that your spring is arriving! It is here in Ohio, too. A very strange thing, though, is that though the robins left for the winter when I was little, and everyone wanted to be first to see them return, now they stay all through the winters, have done so for years. Poor things!

  17. Oh Vee! We dug the parsnips yesterday! The frost is finally leaving the ground!

  18. Good Morning, Vee. Yeah for the robins. We had over 2" of rain on Monday and since then, the Dogwood trees etc. have really been putting on a show. Here in GA, the pollen (mostly from pine trees) is terrible but a small price to pay for the beauty around us.
    God bless your day.

  19. So happy for you that spring is near and the birds are singing, it has been a bad winter.

  20. You have such a way with words that I have gone from shivering just thinking about the cold outside your door to smiling over your joy at seeing the first spring robins. Hang in there, my friend, beautiful spring weather is on the way!
I will return to the land of blog soon, just wanted to drop in and say Hello.

  21. I have that same joy when I see my first Robin, Blue Bird, and Cardinal! XOXO

  22. I'm encouraged, if you're spotting robins, then they'll be here soon too.

And that piece of piano music...makes me want to find the music and learn it. That was not one piece that came into my 'learning of the piano' years. Wish I had.

  23. Mr. and Mrs. Robin look wonderful. I know this must be a sprig of hope that Spring is just around the corner.
It won't be long when we are in the 90's 100's that we'll be thinking back to cooler days. Had the fans going yesterday.

Hang in there...God is Faithful...Spring will come.

  24. PS, I went back to hear the Robin's piano song....lovely...can just picture those robins.

  25. Yes, the Robins showed up here last week. The temps are up in the high 40's to low 60's and all the snow is gone. Still not green yet but soon!!

  26. When the Red, red robin starts bob, bob, bobbin, along, along!

Glad they've returned to your neck of the woods! It's mild and sunny here - so very thankful!

    Very pretty music!

  27. The music sounds familiar and delightful. And I have tears in my eyes listening and reading your words. You really express well just how hard this winter has been and the joy in seeing the robins. A sign of h o p e for you.

  28. I have not seen the robins return here as yet, although I am sure they must have, as we had 70 degree days this week ( but still cool at night and snow showers expected this weekend)! I did see some molting deer, shedding their winter fur. It is a Colorado sign if spring. :)

  29. The relief and the uplift of spirit when spring comes is like a rush of joy or a moment of Narnian magic. I'm so very glad that the robins have returned and that spring is hurrying to your corner.

    ReplyDelete
  30. I have been seeing lots of robins here for several weeks! I love them.

  31. Such a wonderful piece of music. I had never heard it or even heard of it. But then I have never had piano lessons. I am so glad to see bare ground in your pictures. The robins have been marauding down here, stripping trees of berries that have clung all winter and been frozen and are now thawed. I am sure they have to stampede on the lawns to make the worms wake up.
I love all the references we hear during the Easter season of renewal and rebirth and resurrection. Your words make me think that you are being renewed and refreshed with the warmth of the sun, and the (slightly) warmer breezes banishing the snow. You may be turning green, but it is your world that will be turning green soon. Spring does always come.

  32. I'm glad the Robins have finally graced y'all with their pleasant chirping and pretty colors.
The pianoforte was nice. I don't think I've ever heard that melody before.
If it's any consulation, I'm a certain shade of green that your grandmother could play piano. *sigh* No one in my family played anything. I wish I had any musical gift.
    Happy Spring! ~:)

  33. I loved the music, it fit perfectly. This made me think of that old song 'and the red red robin keeps bob, bob, bobbin along'... spring must be doing that to us... there is green shooting up all over the place. Bring it on!

  34. A pretty piece of music. Glad the robins have come to your area. : ) I still think I must live in the robin capital of the country. There are SO MANY around here. They are fun birds to watch.

  35. So glad you saw the robins return and that it gave you the hope you need...

  36. Yay for the robins arrival!! What beautiful music, I can't stop playing it :))

  37. My sheet music song! It's so uplifting! Maybe if I practice enough I will be able to play it for the first day of spring in 2015. Don't hold your breath. LOL!
I'm glad you are seeing robins in your yard!

    Smiles,

    1. Carol, I've been practicing, too. Doubtful that it will ever sound this good. =D But if you are giving yourself a year, I hope that you'll do a video.

  38. I feel somewhat guilty sharing my Spring in the southeast pics when still you are shivering - but now am glad you apparently enjoy seeing what will soon surround you too Vee.
We have a very warm weekend ahead BUT much colder weather will return next week for a brief spell - still not totally settled and hopefully the nesting birds will cope with the change. As for me, not storing those sweaters yet!

  39. I saw a robin in our front yard this morning ~ the first robin I've seen this spring! Enjoyed listening to the music. My mother gave piano lessons until just a few years ago. I remember hearing her play that song. I'd love to hear her play it again.
