A Haven for Vee

Steam

Gotta love steam cleaning—no harsh chemicals and perfectly sanitary. I started out with a Scunci several years ago. Nearly drove me wild because it was so small and cleaning came in spurts—literally, of course. I don't believe that the water vessel held more than a half cup. It was okay for the sinks and drains and doing the refrigerator gaskets...sort of. As of last Thursday, I have this...

~0r*ck St*am-It~

So this was my birthday gift from John. He can not be blamed for the unromantic quality of the gift. He was having trouble coming up with something and I was more than happy to help him. =D I knew that I wanted my hands out of dirty water and mop wringing.

Even though I watched the You Tube video where the cute gal (Nony the Slob—no, that's really her name) went over the fine points explaining that this machine does not suck up dirt, I still was rather surprised to find that it does not suck up dirt. There has to be that kind of a machine on the market. (Sometimes I even imagine a little machine like grocery stores have where the floors are perfectly clean and shiny in two or three swipes running back and forth all on its own in my kitchen.) Perhaps Manuela's comment back on *this post* will help. The Biss*ll does get good recommendations, though it's for floors only...I think.  I wanted something that was going to get multiple uses: floors, cabinets, shower walls, windows, mirrors, upholstery, and even ironing/steaming.

~Lots of Nozzles, Attachments, and Booties~

The price was right. I thought it was $179 and it turned out to be $97, which was great. I have cleaned floors, the refrigerator doors, cabinet doors, upholstery, closet doors, and shower walls (each chore has its own nozzle or attachment and bootie to fit over said attachment) and am pleased with everything except with the lack of dirt-sucking ability and the bit at the first of it where it's difficult to push the thing along for lack of enough moisture. If you enjoy the smell of a cleaner, you can purchase one that won't kill the machine; otherwise, I found that the smell of clean was perfectly fine. That and the nice scent of a candle burning.

One thing is certain...no hands in grimy water. Amen.

Thank you for the sweet birthday wishes. You made me smile.

A great Tuesday to you...

  2. Happy birthday a little late! I'm glad you are liking your Oreck Steam-It.

I bought an Oreck vaccuum this year, and am absolutely in love with it.

BTW, I received your package yesterday. Thank you so much for the daisy magnet! It's on the 'fridge waiting for a recipe card to be stuck under it.

  3. Well that does look like a fine machine. I never thought to clean other stuff besides the floor with my cheap steamer!

  4. This is an interesting cleaning tool. Hmmmm. I've heard you can steam clean hardwood without damaging it. Right? Have you tried that? I'm curious as to how moisture (steam) is okay to put on the hardwood but not a wet mop. Maybe I should google that. I'm sure you'll get a lot of use from it. Did you get snow last night? We did. Another 6 inches or so. :(

  5. I hear ya about the fact that it doesn't suck up dirt. I vacuum, then steam and consider the two part event to be my workout for the day.

I am picturing a machine that is sort of like the multi blades razors: a opening thaf sucks in front of the opening that steams. Obviously it would weigh more and could only be used in one direction...pushing forward.

  6. Yesssss! The very *best-est* of Birthday Presents. That which we pick out ourselves! Yessssssss!

And now, you have STEAM! Mighty steam machine. Here, he only has a steam cleaner for floors, but we do love it.

I sweep up the dirt. He steam cleans.

  7. Your house must be really clean! If I even get my house vacuumed, I'm happy. I've never thought about steaming it. (This must be why I scored POOR on that 1930's housewife quiz :)

  8. We have a small hand held type steamer that works great for several things. We've used it to remove stubborn wallpaper and also we had to remove some tinting off car windows, worked great for that too. You should be all sanitized now with the work you've been doing!

  9. If you lived next door...I'd get you to come do a demo for me! I have no steamer...and even my steam iron is on it's last leg. I wonder how the steamer would work on my antique wood floors?

  10. OH! VEE! I miss so much when I am not visiting in blogland . Please accept my belated, but a very Happy Birthday wish. The birthday celebration post was wonderful, may you have many more special birthday celebrations.
Now that you have your home all clean and fresh smelling, I know of one a few hundred miles down the road that needs a good cleaning as the mistress of the house has been out of commission for a while.~smile~
Enjoy playing with all of your new toys, I am in desperate need for some new ones!

  11. I have seen one on TV that sucks up dirt too...but I think it is just for floors....not all the other uses. Yours sounds like a great machine!

  14. Good luck with your new machine!
I have trouble with 'machines' and still like getting my hands wet. : )

  15. I have never used a steamer, but it sounds like a great machine to own. It seems like there are some things around here that don't ever look great even after I clean them (ie: baseboards and mirrors). I may need to look into a steamer. So glad you posted this.

  17. How nice! It's so humid here, we feel like we are in the steam all the time! I better light a candle! lol ♥♥♥

  18. I've never used a steamer like this one. Only the kind that is used for taking off wallpaper. I'll have to check it out. Sounds like a great birthday gift if it helps you in the cleaning dept.! I've been having back problems again, so I've slacked off on cleaning the floors. I can walk okay, it's the bending over holding a mop handle that hurts! I may need a steamer by the time I get straightened up.

  19. You're going to wear that steamer out with all the cleaning you've been doing. I'll bet your home fairly sparkles! When you're done, would you please come on over?

  20. Hi Vee - I could sure use one of those. Nice birthday present. Nothing wrong with that - he got you what you wanted - that's the best kind of present!

Wish we'd had one of those when our babies were little...

  21. Sweet little picture of you! I'd love to have tugged on those little ringlets!

  22. Happy belated birthday, Vee! There is no greater joy than a clean house. What a great gift you chose.

  23. Vee,
What a great idea! Do you dust or whatever first?
I do love a clean house. And to get one without the wear and tear on my hands would be simply splendid!

  24. Happy Birthday my friend! A steam mop is a glorious gift when you are tired of wringing out a mop! How sweet of John to get one for you. I hope you enjoy it!

  25. And it gets under the table! You did your homework and made a great choice. I don't think this one was yet on the market when I got mine. They must have heard what the consumer wanted and listened.

  26. Mamon has a Shark...one for floors and carpet one for everything else...she got it because mr clean nearly killed Uncle Pyewackit. No chemicals on the floors where her precious walks, she told Darlin'. Fortunately, we get the perks of the thing too. And I think it would be very romantic if your Darlin' put a bow with a box of chocolate on it!

  28. Oh.... I love the profile picture.... so cute!!!

I want a machine like yours....I love anything and everything that helps in making our home cleaner. With a dog and cat, there's always 'stuff' all over the floor.

  29. Sending belated Happy Birthday wishes to you! I appreciate your thoughts on this steamer. I have been curious about how well something like this worked too.

  30. Your birthday steam cleaner reminded me of a gift I received for my birthday many years ago - a scope for a rifle. And you guessed it, I didn't own a rifle, but guess who did? Happy Belated Birthday, Vee.

  31. This sounds like a handy, dandy gadget Vee! Your house must sparkle. I know I could use this as I have a lot that need deep cleaning. With a long haired furry cat that sheds constantly I feel like I'm on a losing battle with dust bunnies. I know I couldn't live without my Swifter for that reason.

  32. Happy Birthday! Loving the blog...especially the welcoming snowman :)

  33. Happy Birthday..thanks for the review, I am all for new gadgets that help in the cleaning process...and not to put my hands in the water would be great...a new gadget might turn my cleaning feet into happy feet

  34. Ohh - I'd love one too, birthday, Mother's Day or Christmas - any of these will do.

BTW - Love your new profile pic!

  35. Gotta love a good deal like that! And I am all about tools that make necessary chores more do-able! (I also love choosing my own presents. ~smile~)

  36. I have a steamer just for the (seeming) acres of tile from the front door, through the kitchen and dining room. I love it - just throw that 'bootie' into the washer when I'm done and my hands stay dry.

  37. Happy belated Birthday!

I always pick out what I want for my birthday :)

The Bissell just does floors (the shower/bathtub also) but it does suck up dirt. Your Oreck sounds great since it does so many other things!
