A Haven for Vee

Happy

So I was reading the final chapters of the book I mentioned yesterday when I began to wonder what John might look like if he were a member of the Duck Dynasty. More on that in a bit.

Two unlikely gals introduced Duck Dynasty to me: Debbie of Words on Wheels and Auntie of Auntie Sezzzzz (Found it!) Oddly enough, both of these wonderful bloggers have pulled a disappearing act. Anyone seen either of them lately? They may be hanging out in Louisiana — groupies!

This is the book I was talking about. I did not expect to like it. John picked up the book that I was hoping to read so, having nothing to read, I went with this one. And I loved it. LOVED it. It is a powerful testimony. At one point, I was reading aloud to John about the part when Phil decided that he would repent. I glanced up to see John's eyes glistening a bit. John had been there once upon a time you see. Neither Phil's story nor John's is mine to tell so you'll just have to read it for yourself!

Now back to that earlier question. What would John look like as a Duck Dynasty dude...

Pretty good if I do say so myself except that he has dimples under there. He shouldn't cover them up!

P.S. Duck Dynasty airs Wednesday nights on A&E at 10 EST. We watch via an A&E app on the iPad.

  1. OH Vee, that is too funny. John with a long beard? No. It's just not him. We don't get the show here but have heard lots about it and a lot of our friends watch it too. Maybe I'll pick up the book and learn of Phil's story of repentance. Blessings to you and John today. Hugs. Pam

  2. My John watches Duck Dynasty. I agree that your John should not cover up his dimples! Fun photo. Thanks for the book review. Wishing you a very nice Friday and weekend.

  3. I have heard of Duck Dynasty, but have never sat down in front of it ... we've been too busy following Red Sox baseball ... I'm intrigued by the book, though. Books seem to be my preferred bit of media these days ... As for your John with a long beard? I'm with you ... dimples should not be hidden. A smile with a set of dimples is a beautiful thing! Have a wonderful day, Vee!

  4. haha love it. Goodness I am just going to have to watch that show. Everyone just seems to love it. My kids are all BIG fans. Enjoy your week-end Vee!

  5. He looks like he is ready for a hard winter ahead! He'll stay warm! lol I have never watched this show but I read the most interesting post about them awhile back. Of course now I can't remember who wrote it and I was searching trying to find it. I give up! haha! If I find it later, I'll send you the link. I would love to read this book! Sweet hugs!

  6. We are big fans of Duck Dynasty here! Sorry John, the beard can not stay! Sometimes books surprise us don't they. Cute post!

  7. Oh Vee, we find ourselves being lightheartedly entertained weekly. Cute post and I think I have a book to go and buy.....and maybe paste a beard on my guy:)

  8. YESSSSSSSSSS!!!!! We (Debbie and I) are down in Louisiana, bein' Groupies! It's hot down here, but somebody has to do it!!!!!!!!! -gigggles-

Phil wrote some book!!!!!! I knew that he was tough... But not that he was that tough. Miss Kay is some fantastic woman, to have stuck around.

Also knew that you and other Christians, would love this show and their story, if only you would dip into it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hooray! You do! And you know, how much I love to be right~!!!!!!!!! -chuckle-

And the really wonderful thing about Duck Dynasty, to me, is.... I am not a Christian, but I am not turned off by them, or the show. Their message is spot-on, if they can sort-of-preach, and not turn off others. Good for them!

OK, now please move on to Willy's book. And of course, to Si's book, just out.

    Long live Duck Dynasty!

Oh and did I say, now much I lovvvvvvvve to be right? Heh-heh-hehhhh...

  9. LOL-I have never watched Duck Dynasty but I have seen the ads for it. It does look funny. I think Auntie Sezzzz announced that she was taking a blogging break towards the end of July. I did see a post from her pop up a week or so ago though. xo Diana

  10. Oh Vee!!! I am a huge Duck Dynasty fan too! I've read Willie's book and Phil's book; both are awesome. Added fun: going on YouTube to see various family members preach and witness. Even Godwin has testified about his faith journey. I am in awe of how this family served God faithfully for decades. I've read about the ministry Jase's wife's parents have had across America for decades as well. These are deep faith folk for such a time as this.

You might add to your post that DD episodes can be seen at the A&E website for those who don't receive the channel or keep missing it during air time. SLC airs new episodes at 11 pm, so annoying, so I watch it the next day.

Glad you too are spreading the word about the Robertson clan. Pray for them too!

  11. I keep hearing about Duck Dynasty...but have yet to watch an episode. Maybe it's time! Or maybe I'll start with the books.

John looks quite stately with a beard. I don't think stately is a word associated with Duck Dynasty though...is it?

  12. I have never watched the show, although I have seen these men on talk shows and was surprised to see they all have wives lol, and, apparently some women find them sexy. Oh well. lol John looks very wise in a long beard. I think Debbie from Words on Wheels is taking a blogging break. xo

  13. I just showed this to Jim. He says that you have a star on your hands, LOL! I say he needs something camo to complete the look. I will have to get the book. We just started watching this season and quickly became fans too.

  14. Good morning Vee - Wow - Duck Dynasty came to Maine??? They're coming to Tyler this weekend and doing a thing at our convention center and also a thing for our Christian school at our church. Those guys were at Canton back in the spring signing books and I got to see them there. They are "hicker" than me, I think, but they do have a good story. The show's silly sometimes, but it's clean and I'm glad to see that!

John would make a striking hickster - Yep, camo would be good and a ratty cap. Tell him we said hi!

  15. Terry read The Duck Commander Dynasty this summer and also was pleasantly surprised. He was afraid it would reveal something that would then ruin the show for him...but found them to be "right on".
It is amazing to us how well they have been able to merchandise their products while maintaining their objective to share their faith.

  16. Having never watched Duck Dynasty my first thought was that an intervention may be necessary. As in certifiable!! You are so funny!!

  17. Too funny! You have me quite interested in the book and now I would love to read about Phil's testimony. Thanks for sharing! Hugs

  18. I've never watched Duck Dynasty and only heard about the show a couple of weeks ago. Don't have a clue who Phil is nor why John is wearing the beard. I think he looks like cute gnome.

  19. Vee, This is so funny! I have read this book and The one his son, Willie, wrote. Both are excellent reads and touch you deeply. Duck Dynasty is such a good show and so family oriented. We all love it here!

    Have a great weekend!

  20. He he, I didn't suspect this would be the book you mentioned yesterday. My husband has read it but I haven't yet. We're Duck Dynasty fans and since we don't have cable tv anymore, we watch it via apple tv/ipad using the A&E app as well. Love it how the new episodes are available without having to pay a lot per episode, or waiting till the season is over ~ Abby.

  21. ps - the beard is very funny on John, but I like the look of him without the beard.

  22. This show is a favorite of mine too.
John looks like he would fit right in with
    all the other fellows!
I just watched the re-run of Phil and Kate's
    wedding-so touching.
It's definitely a breath of fresh air to see
a show where people aren't afraid to share their
    faith.

  23. Such an unlikely show to have hit it so big. I do think people are tired of all the phony stuff, and this swing in the other direction hits a chord. I saw a t-shirt at walmart this morning with Uncle Si's picture - it said HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY. He does make me laugh, and good for all of them for their outspoken testimonies. (I bought DD pj's for one of the grandkids this morning for Christmas!) :)

  24. Hahahaha Vee you are too funny...We love Duck Dynasty and watch it every week..sometimes more than once...My favorite part is Phil and Kay's relationship..how much he adores her...and she does him...says a lot for Christianity that is real...
    love, Mona

  26. DD is an interesting phenomenon. I like beards on men but theirs are a bit much. John looks OK as long as we know it was painted on by some photoshop program! Interesting comments you are getting!

  27. i've never seen "duck dynasty" but love that
the family has spoken up for the goodness
    of the Lord.

  28. Oh my goodness....I am trying to get into Duck Dynasty. I don't really know why I care except that I want to understand what the fuss is about. Maybe I'll have to read that book and it will help.

    You are too funny.

God is so good us. For we all have history of being in need of salvation and forgiveness.

  30. My husband and I love Duck Dynasty, I wish they would put more family oriented shows on TV. I love their faith in God. I think your hubby should just stay like he is so you can enjoy his dimples. I am going to buy those books. I think they will be good to read. Thanks for the blogs you write, I love them. I have been to Maine and it is beautiful. Have a great weekend and be Happy, Happy, Happy.

  31. Love, Love, Love this!

John's dimples are hidden just like Willie's. Have you seen any photos of them pre-beards? Dimples big time!

I haven't read this but I've heard about it through the book that Willie and Korie wrote. I love to hear how God reaches down and saves people! I've got tears in my eyes even now at His goodness!

I think that John looks pretty good with a beard.

  32. Funny! Did I say funny? I think John looks right spiffy with that beard! I haven't watched DD, because I can't get it on my TV, our kids love it. I will however look for this book. Now I must go and read your previous post to see what you have been up to this week.

  33. As we are some of the last folks in the world to live without cable television, we have not seen this show...although one would have to be very secluded not to have heard talk of it. In fact, at a birthday party last spring, Ron's brother and two cousins who are brothers found out that Ron hadn't seen the show...and then spent the better part of an hour telling him ALL about it! Such guffawing and back slapping you've never seen!

Your description of the book intrigues me.

  34. Vee, I have a picture of my husband and me. He is growing his beard out for a year (he's at the 6 month mark) and I'm afraid he's looking like a larger version of Uncle Si:) Mardel's was passing out Uncle Si beard fans so I had to get one and put my beard on, too:)

  35. I must live in a bubble because I've never heard of the series or the books. You have stimulated a conversation of amusing comments which have educated me to know the show involves Christians with beards. I prefer John without, dimples or not. :-)

  37. I am soooo giggling at this! I know how my hubby would look in a beard because I can still see him in my mind's eye from way back then. Since the hair on his head is mostly pepper with a little salt, that's what I imagine his 50 something beard would be. Of course, I would probably trim it in his sleep if he let it grow as long as a Dynasty beard.

And as for John, I relate and so does my husband. We have our own stories of God's AMAZING grace to tell too.

  38. BTW, in a funny related story, the Farm Sister nearly did go to West Monroe Louisiana a few weeks ago. Her husband is looking for a particular farm implement and found one for sale there. She did everything humanly possible to convince him that they should road trip and take a look, but they never did. I imagined myself stowing away in the back of the pick up truck all the way to LA.

Now THAT would have been blog fodder!LOL

  39. You are right, never cover up dimples!

I have never seen Duck Dynasty. Turtle Man was enough for me. Have you seen that show? I have heard that a lot of people like, Duck Dynasty, but I have never heard anyone or read that people are crazy about turtle man. Maybe we will have to take some time and watch duck dynasty. I wonder if we could catch up on Netflix so we would understand what the show is about.

I apologize for the lack of capitals letters where they are needed, but when I am using the voice command on my iPad, it just doesn't happen And it seems that I am thinking more about coffee then going back to correct it. Sorry!

  40. I've only watched a few episodes of DD and they were really good, but I'm not a big fan of all those beards. I think John looks much better without one, too! What a good sport he is...does he know you did that to him? LOL!

  41. I've seen snippets of DD. Not my cup of tea, but your photo of John is funny. I agree with Cheryl, he looks much butter without! Debbie is taking a blog break but she has stopped by my blog.
