A Fun Day
Cousins are a little bit of childhood that can never be lost.
~unknown
Yesterday, my sister and I wended our way slowly west toward New Hampshire and for fifteen minutes or so we actually were out of the state. I was tempted to say that it's all we could handle, but since we both love NH, that would not have been true.
We did a little of everything, but the highlight was visiting with Aunt Ess and Uncle Bee and their son, his wife, and three children. We have not seen our cousin for a quarter of a century or so. (I have not seen my aunt and uncle for three years for that matter.) As we were leaving, I told his little girl (seven years old) that I might not see her again until she's 25 or 36 or something. She looked at me so perplexed and said, "But we're coming to visit again next year." We adults chuckled over that.
After a delicious lunch of Sloppy Joes, salad, and watermelon, we played briefly with Pinterest sharing folders and ideas. My
aunt has had some trouble with a very unfriendly gal who leaves her unkind, hateful messages. Aunt Ess decided that Pinterest was too unfriendly a place to enjoy and deleted her first account. Then she changed her mind deciding to try again and not allow one person to ruin her fun. I was shocked about her negative Pinterest experience having never had a problem with another pinner.
Then we took off for NH; then a thrift store, then we landed in Bridgton at the movie theater. If you ever happen to be in Bridgton, Maine, the movie theater is the most interesting place. It's filled with wonderful movie-making memorabilia and it is so charming. I'm waiting on photos so I can share them with you. Anyway, I'll tell you more about that experience tomorrow.
~past Moose Pond on our way to the movie~
After the movie, it was off to a grocery store with a sale on butter ☺, a picnic supper from KFC, and home again, home again jiggety-jig-jig.
Today, I'll be catching up with you!

What a nice day with your sister! Those sorts of 'a little bit of everything days' are really gifts.
ReplyDeleteI liked the quotation about cousins.
What a fun day with your family. I am sorry to hear about your aunts experience with Pinterest and a mean pinner, she can block them if that would help her any.
ReplyDeleteI have cousins I have not seen in over 50 years. That sounds so impossible but true.
ReplyDeletePennecook Island was too far of a run to make, right? Someday... And I hope we go there together.
It sounds like you found your adventure after all! What a lovely way to spend the day:>)
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day! I need a day like that! ha ha!
ReplyDeleteI love the photo of the pond - such beauty there in Maine.
Tim and I were just speaking of his aunt last evening. She lives four hours away and we haven't seen here in two years, I think. Sigh. We need to go see her. She is 90, and has not been in good health.
What movie did you see?
Have a delightful day!
Deanna
That sounds like an adventure of the best kind! Renewing family relationships, sharing time together, a scenic drive, good food, a movie/field trip, and a sale on butter...all good! Glad you enjoyed your day...looking forward to more about the movie theater.
ReplyDeleteMy goodness, you sure had a full day Vee! Sounds like a great time. The photo of Moose Pond is beautiful! So green and blue.
ReplyDeleteOh my, what a delightful-sounding day! To be honest, it sounds just about perfect :)
ReplyDeleteHow sad your Aunt Ess had such a bad experience on Pinterest...I'm glad she chose to not let one person ruin it for her.
Enjoy your Wednesday!
It sounds like a wonderful day with your family. I have said it before and I will say it again. You live in a beautiful area!
ReplyDeleteAh Pinterest, one social media site I have kept well away from, I just do not have the time for yet more online presence. :)
ReplyDeleteThat was a FULL day! How fun to spend time with family you haven't seen for a while and to meet the little ones. What a great picture of Moose Pond. Did you check on nearby geocaches?!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like a busy but fun day Vee. I have had only one negative/rude pinterest comment. I just deleted the pin. What a lovely photo the first one in the post is. Can't wait to hear what movie you watched.
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day with your sister. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun day with your sister! I think you live in such a beautiful area. Someday I hope to make it to that side of our continent! Have a wonderful day.
ReplyDeleteSo happy you two had such a nice trip. That lake is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteSo love these kind of days, visiting with family you haven't seen in awhile.
ReplyDeleteAmazing all you energetic sisters fit into one day! It must have been fun.
ReplyDeleteYou two accomplished a lot with visiting, shopping and a couple of meals out. Glad you had fun together.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun.... sloppy joes.... I LOVE sloppy joes and it's been a long time since I made any.
ReplyDeleteVisiting and being with our kinfolk... that's what makes life lovely.
Brenda
Oh what a great day that sounds like. I'd have love to go along with you two. : )
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful photo.
I smiled when you wrote, home again, home again, jiggety-jig-jug. I say that all the time as we pull into our driveway!! : )
Sounds like a fabulous day, Vee. Can't go wrong with company, food and good scnery!
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun day Vee. Both my parents were born and raised in New England and we spent our summers out there. Beautiful country there. I have not seen most of my cousins though in over 40 years! They have scattered to the four winds!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo! And it is nice to reconnect with the relatives. About Pinterest, I didn't even know there was such a thing as leaving a comment there. Shows how little I know. Sorry she had a bad experience there. I only use Pinterest as a bulletin board of stuff I run across and like.
ReplyDeleteYou and your Sis have so much fun, Vee! I talk to my sister everyday, but wish I could get together with her more often. I would love to visit your neck of the woods one day. That photo was so scenic!!! xxoo
ReplyDeleteSounds like such an enjoyable day. Meandering and memories... Ahhhhh. Those are the best!
ReplyDeleteOMG, Miss Vee went on a traveling adventure! I bet you had a fun time!
ReplyDeleteOh, a road trip! Such fun to see relatives you haven't seen in a long while. Love the idea of meandering here and there with your sister just seeing what there is to see.
ReplyDeleteA perfect day! Nothing like sharing it with your sister. The beauty of your area is breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteAww - what a fun day was had! These kind of days should happen more often! Your photo of the bridge is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteThat pond photo is amazing. Makes me want to be there.
ReplyDeleteIt is so nice that you and your sister have been able to spend quality time together this summer, Vee, and able to visit relatives that you haven't seen in awhile. I've been to Portsmouth, NH a few times when my husband had business there and loved both visits! It is a pretty town with many nearby historical sights. Maine is also a beautiful state--as you know, of course! I'd love to do an extended New England trip one
ReplyDeleteday in the future!
Well that sounds like a fun sisterly outing to me! Catching up with long lost relatives and taking in a movie sounds perfect.
ReplyDeleteI'm picturing your little excursion into NH...seeing it in my mind's eye. Funny, but I will always think of New Hampshire as it was when we visited last summer...grey, dreary and wet. And then there was the encounter with the police officer at the covered bridge. :)
Funny you should mention a visit with long "lost" cousins. I have recently reconnected (online only at this point) with some of mine. I have a tiny (personal, not blog related) facebook page which I have purposed to keep just family. Several of my cousins have "friended" me, and it is really quite nice to have this little way to reminisce or post old photos which the cousins will understand and remember.
ReplyDeleteI haven't as yet had a negative pinterest problem, but my sister has. It was about something that she pinned from MY blog, too. The noive!!! I have had negative blog problems. Had some this week, in fact. Apparently my post about moving south "offended". What? I didn't say one negative thing about either the north or the south in it. I merely said that we moved. Some folks can be so touchy and egocentric...
I'm planning to see that movie, and I agree that some of the best books were written for children.
Sounds like a lovely day! :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like a lovely visit and a great photo.
