Note Card Party Information

***Note Card Parties have been suspended; however, if anyone wishes to take them over, please contact me.

♫ The next Note Card Party is scheduled for
September ? ♫

That's right! The summer off for good behavior! Thank you for all the wonderful participation in the past two years. It's been fun!

nEw Note Card Party Rules:

1. Use only four photographs that would make a nice set of note cards. They must have appeared on your blog by the time you link up.  As long as you have at least one photograph that has already appeared on your blog by the time you link up, the remaining three (two, one) may be new photos.

Four pictures plus a box top cover/sample if you choose featuring all for a total of five. One more and I will visit without commenting. I know. Tough punishment.

2. Write your post and have it posted before linking up.

3. Link directly to your post. (Click on your post's title to get the direct address to appear in the addy bar for an easy copy and paste.)

4. Link directly back to the party in the same way so that others may follow along.

5. Visit ten or so others (at least) and comment. Knowing that new visitors are viewing and commenting is part of the fun. Please consider removing word verification for the day of the party. (Permission granted to look and not comment at blogs practicing safe commenting. All those word verifications get very tiring when trying to visit a lot of blogs.)

6. It is fine to connect with other parties as long as you, yourself, are not running a linky party in your Note Card Party post AND you can make the rules fit both parties. For example, if you are doing a party called Terrific Ten, it is obviously not going to work for this party that allows a maximum of four plus a box top cover (for your selection of cards).

~Example of a Box Lid Sample (it does not have to be a collage)~

7. Have fun!

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me at this address: Dunnpark at hotmail dot com.

See you at the party!

Please feel free to copy an image and use in the old-fashioned way providing your own link or simply grab the new button on the side bar. The old button code is at the bottom of this post. Thanks so much!

**Note Card Parties are currently scheduled for the third Wednesday of each month right here at A Haven for Vee. Mr. Linky will be available for sign-up between 2:00 and 2:30 the afternoon before.

Note Card Party~May

Welcome to the third Note Card Party! How quickly a month flies by (we won't depress ourselves by thinking about that). On with the festivities...

I was obviously hungry when I began thinking about this month's Note Card Party. Thinking about themes has never been a strong suit for me. If I were working on being totally theme-y~theme-y, I might have gone with four chocolate offerings. Somehow the Paska and the pizza worked their way in.

Rules Refresher:

1. Let's try not to make too many rules...
2. Search for four photographs on your own blog that would make a nice set of note cards. They must have appeared on your blog by the time you link up.
3. Write your post.
4. Link directly to your post below.
5. Visit ten or so others (at least) and comment. Knowing that new visitors are viewing and commenting is part of the fun. (Permission granted to look and not comment at blogs practicing safe commenting. All those word verifications get very tiring when trying to visit a lot of blogs.)
6. Have fun!

Late Summer

For the man sound of body and serene of mind there is no such thing as bad weather; every day has its beauty, and storms which whip the blood do but make it pulse more vigorously. ~George Gissing

~Late Summer Mosaic~

Hmmmm... Apparently, I am not serene of mind nor sound of body. It was a foul autumn in 2012; winter was vile; it was a truly rotten spring; summer was not so great either. What does it mean when the entire year was a weather bust?

It's why I am so looking forward to autumn 2013 and hoping for better weather ahead, both figuratively and literally.

~-~

Moving on to more cheery thoughts—have you tried these? Brownie Brittle they're called and so good, if you enjoy the crunchy bits of brownies, which I do. Six of these squares equal a serving for a total of 120 calories. One might, if she were very good, get away with eating just one and it would be enough chocolate to last for a few minutes. ☺ (No, I am not being compensated in any way to say this. We just tried them and we like them. Pssttt... Brownie Brittle people, you can send a case to Vee in Maine. Thank you.)

Those wondering how the rules will shake down for the note card party should check the new rules soon to be posted on the Note Card Party page, which can be reached by clicking on either the date in my sidebar for the Note Card Party or on the button also in my sidebar. I think everyone will be happy or nearly everyone will be happy. I know that I'm happy! No, really. I am happy.

~not my house~

Leaving you with a photo of some beautiful window boxes. They're not as fine as they were in August as they are becoming a bit leggy, but still so pretty on yesterday afternoon's drive home from the apple orchard. Soon the lady of the house will be decorating for autumn with pumpkins and bittersweet...then Christmas with evergreens and pine cones, but don't let me get ahead of myself.

A marvelous new week to you...

Note Card Party~May

Welcome to May's Note Card Party!

This month, I decided to challenge myself by going way back to 2007 and 2008, back when my photography skills were even worse than they are now. I took each photo to both Photoshop and Photoscape. I hope I haven't made a bad thing worse. Let me show you the difference with the first one.

Owls Head, Maine

See a difference? By using effects in Photoscape, I was able to bring back definition to the trees. The original photo directly above makes the trees look all black. The first note card shows some trunks and boughs and even that little spot where one can see through the trees to the water beyond.

Now I feel that I've chosen all the fuzzy photos that I can handle for a while and so I'll be loading up photos as fast as I can for next month. ☺

Anyone who wishes to know more about the party and the rules (there aren't many), please click on the icon in my sidebar. It will take you to the particulars.

Looking forward to visiting you!

Note Card Party~April

Welcome to this month's Note Card Party!

 a clinker?

This has been a challenge. My abilities have been improving over considerable amounts of time. Even though I have nearly five years of photos in storage on this blog, I have precious few of any merit. These photos have all appeared in former Aprils. I hope that there's no repeat of that last scene this year! (Yes, I added the note card feature from Photoscape.)

Rules Refresher:

1. Let's try not to make too many rules... ☺
6. Have fun!

This is going to be so much fun!

September Note Card Party

The first fire since the summer is lit, and is smoking into the room:
The sun-rays thread it through, like woof-lines in a loom.
Sparrows spurt from the hedge, whom misgivings appal
That winter did not leave last year for ever, after all...

 ~Thomas Hardy

Welcome! This is our seventh Note Card Party — and they said it wouldn't last. I'm so glad that you're here. Can't wait to visit you and see what you have come up with this time. You may be shocked that I didn't include a pumpkin nor a mum.

~Sedum~

~Wild Oats~

~Helenium Autumnale~

~Wood Pile and Brush~
Three of the four note cards date back two years. I am grateful for all the mosaics collages I've done because they are another way to load up photos.

Because I may actually have this set made up, I wanted to include two selections suitable for men. My card supply leans toward the feminine.

Please visit the sidebar button for rules. I'll not waste space here to restate them. Our next party will be October 17.

Take it away!

No Note Card Party

Ordinarily, I'd be letting you know that Mr. Linky would be up this afternoon for the monthly Note Card Party. However, I have GOOD news! No Note Card Parties this summer. None. Zip. You are officially off the hook for June, July, and August. Have a wonderful summer!
Thanks for checking in...

Ice Cold Drinks~July Note Card Party

Edited to Add: July 19, 2012

Thank you for another wonderful Note Card Party! It surprised me because July is a traditionally slow month in Blogdom. Mr. Linky will close at 10 a.m. just in case there are any last minute linkers. See you in August!

***

Welcome! It's been some kind of crazy hot, hasn't it?! Thought that recycling these first two images of drinks featured at Suzy's Ice Cream Social in former years might be pleasing. (BTW, Suzy @ Kitchen Bouquet is planning an Ice Cream Social for the weekend of August 18 and 19. It's a lot of fun and a great way to share a favorite drink or ice cream concoction.)

Not sure about this first one, though. That orange looks a little radioactive to me. =D It was first featured *here.*

Everyone wanted to know how I managed to balance the ice cream container on the coffee can. (Easy—it was empty!)  First featured *here.*

Now I am ashamed that I ever posted this one...what a sloppy whomping mess. However, it sure was tasty and the recipe link is provided *here.*

And this is the joy of loading up images in the month between parties as the rootbeer was featured just last Saturday. I needed a fourth photo of a cold drink and this filled the bill. I do think my picture taking skills are improving a squeak.

Before anyone worries about citing where you found your photos...not necessary unless you wish to.

If you have any questions, you will find the directions in the Note Card Button provided in my sidebar and you are always welcome to email me...addy in profile.

Now let's have some fun!

Dear Note Card Partiers,

And all those who might like to be...

After our August party, I hinted that there might be something new in the works. Before any more time gets away, I thought we should discuss it. Actually, some of us have already been discussing it behind the scenes.

~Four~

Just as a refresher, the rule has been to find four previously used photographs that would work well as a set of note cards. The photographs could even be recent additions. Some have felt that using recent additions is too repetitive in such a short time span.

This is the problem in a nutshell: some newer bloggers and some less frequent bloggers do not have a lot of material to work with; some older bloggers do not want to work with the material they have. ☺

Sooo this is what I would like you to consider:

1. Leaving things just as they are

2. Amending the rules to allow one (or more) photograph/s formerly used with whatever new photographs are needed to round out the foursome. (That four card set is very important to me because it keeps the visiting and commenting process easier for all of us.)

3. A combination of both 1 and 2 — do it any way that works for you.

Some have suggested allowing four entirely new photographs and I'm reluctant to do that because there's something important to me about looking back through the archives to find what one can find. That's where the idea sprang from in the first place.

So, if you have an opinion on this, please leave it right here in comments. I'd love to hear from you!

P.S. The new rules are up and posted on the Note Card Party page reached by clicking on the date for the party or the button for the party...both in my sidebar.

Note Card Party Welcome

Okay, friends, I had to select a theme for myself. Otherwise, I'd have been sunk. I found the photo that a few had commented on as a favorite (it was also a favorite of mine) and from that photo settled on the theme: dishes. And, yes, I would like to have a set of note cards featuring dishes.

Note Card Party Rules:

1. Let's try not to make too many rules... ☺
6. Have fun!

Let's see how this goes. If we enjoy it, perhaps we can do it all over again on the third Wednesday of every month. Twelve times a year sounds about right to me. What do you think? One thing is certain, we all have pictures to share!

Love Vee

October Note Card Party

(Had a little excitement with an earthquake here at around 7:15 pm. The strongest I can remember feeling, but only a 4.5 4.0. Anyone else feel it? I know it could be felt in Boston. Anyway, since I want to make sure this posts, I'm going ahead with it now.)
The earth's distances invite the eye. And as the eye reaches, so must the mind stretch to meet these new horizons. I challenge anyone to stand with autumn on a hilltop and fail to see a new expanse, not only around him, but in him, too. ~Hal Borland
Welcome! It's our October Note Card Party. I'm expecting — anything!

Here it's a blue sky and water theme. Except we haven't had very many blue skies this month. In fact, I'd call this October a stinking dud of an October as Octobers go. Though we can't always have what we want, can we? We have to use some imagination and make a bitter thing palatable somehow. There's always a clinker...

The next photo was sharpened to within an inch of its life!

Just click on the button in my sidebar for the details. I want to thank all those who participate for being so generous with visiting and commenting at the participants' blogs. I receive so many wonderful comments about what a friendly party this is and how wonderful my readers are. You are pretty terrific just so you'll know. ♥

And it has not been lost on me how many of my readers are now your readers, too. How wonderful!

Grand Central Station

Perhaps you were under the impression that Grand Central Station looks like this:

It does. Nope. I  have never been. Pat has though. She took *that photo* and I have used it by permission. Did you know that Pat has been named one of the top Pinners to follow on Pinterest? True. She blogs at Mille Fiori Favoriti and has lived in NYC all her life. She will soon call the state of Colorado home and we'll have lost one of the most amazing ambassadors for NYC in Blogdom. We'll gain an amazing ambassador for Colorado. I hope that she'll revisit New York from time to time just so we can see the amazing photos she takes of her "hometown." If you haven't checked out her entry for the Note Card Party, do. As she says, "We Need a Little Christmas."

My side porch has also been a little Grand Central Station for much of this week. Perhaps yours was as well. One UPS truck after another pulled up through rain, freezing rain, snow, and slush. I am so impressed with all manner of postal services of late. It has really been amazing. Two days was the average length of time between order and arrival. Now that is incredible.

Not all this stuff is mine. No, no. I'm just babysitting it until whichever gift giver comes to wrap it and take it off. In the midst of all this, a package arrived just for me all the way from the plains of Canada. Niki, who blogs at Rural Writings, had wrapped me up some sweet things and I'm showing them off! Visit her Christmas post, if you need a little Christmas. Today I bought the things I need to make the Bunte Teller she shows and discusses. I'm so looking forward to that.

So here's a mostly picture story of my gift box...

Oh beauty products were declared...heaven knows I need them!

Beautifully wrapped in this sweet paper...

 Little Santa cap...
Actually two little Santa caps...they're hanging on my tree just now...

 All the goodies...

 Sweet wishes...

Spring fabrics by Ro Gregg. These are five-inch squares and I am going to have fun thinking what to create with them...perhaps a spring table runner.

Great label on the goat's milk soap that smells amazing: Where goats grow and flowers don't.

Skin and hand lotion...these hands need some lotion.

Darling little candle and apricot colored glass holder.

Look at the graphics on this box of Dare Maple Cream Cookies! This is now prominently displayed on my pantry cupboard. If we eat them, I'll be saving the box!

Ohhhh, yum. Coffee Crisps. I'm going to cut them into pieces and share them with my family...perhaps as part of the Bunte Teller.

All I have to say is that someone has been way too generous and has really been paying attention around here.

Niki, thank you for the sweet gifts, sweet Canadian gifts. You really made my day!

***

Thanks to all who participated in the Note Card Party yesterday. It's always a lot of fun to see the wonderful photos presented. There is no excuse for any of you not to make up your work into your own personalized cards for next Christmas.

The party will remain open throughout today for anyone who'd like to get in on it. It was a lot of fun to have some new participants join us, too.

Back to Grand Central...
