Florist Shop

The books went back to the library this morning and I ordered two more, both Elizabeth Goudge books: The Dean's Watch and The Scent of Water. Funny how I can go for weeks without reading anything more than the newspaper or the morning devotional and then I can't read enough. Escapism. I obviously need some.

Speaking of escapism, this week I hope to visit blogs and blog a bit myself before those books come in and I sink out of sight into the sofa cushions.

We had a lovely Mother's Day Tea here on Saturday. The entire house looks like a florist shop because of all the bouquets. That's what happens when two mothers are in the house. We have roses yellow and red, carnations of all colors, two azalea plants pink and coral, hanging petunias and a sage plant, too. It's been so bitterly cold that I haven't dared to put any flowers out. I hope that your Mother's Day was wonderful as well.

Here's Nan's bouquet of carnations, a gift from my daughter to her great-grandmother. Gosh, I love these things as they are so colorful and not one bit fussy like the roses have been.

I redid my little banner after I saw *some that Becky had done* at Sweet Cottage Dreams. John was forever bumping into the first and knocking things about. It's not fair to expect men to put up with fussy things so I set about to fix it. This is how it turned out.

Now to check in on some blogs... Yay!

  2. I've been reading too. Not that I have the time to do it. Just that with my cold and all....I took the time.

Enjoy your books! Glad you have a bunch of flowers to look at as well.

  6. I really like your introductory picture, Vee. It not only seems to invite one into your home, but, into your blog as well.

I love flowers and bouquets, their scent and colors and the beauty they portray. I'm off to hopefully finish a book before nodding off to sleep.

I might just smell my bouquet one more time, though.

  10. Hi Vee - long time no visit! Sorry, it's been busy at my house.
Hey, I wanna know what are those beautiful purple flowers on your header pic? I'm not sure I know what they are!

And it sure looks lovely and warm outside your window with all that green grass. We've had no rain to speak of for several weeks and my grass is brown. yuck. We could sure use some of that floodwater that Nashville got. I asked Adam to bring us some when he came last week, but he couldn't. Thank goodness his house sits up on a hill on 17th Avenue - Music Row - and he was high and dry!

Yep, I can handle the fish. Me and my little sister used to poke their eyeballs with sticks when we were watching Dad filet and clean them. We'd throw the fish guts to our Siamese cat - he always knew when dad went fishing. Did you know fish eyeballs just roll around? They are pretty tough and you can't hardly stick a stick into them... just sayin'...

  11. I can almost smell the roses...and carnations! Glad you had a nice Mother's Day...and now you can enjoy the blooms as you read. I have 'The Deans Watch'...the only Elizabeth Goudge book I have read. It's hard to do both...read and blog (oh...and garden ...and cook...and do the books for the business...and have fun with the grands...and go for walks). It's all good! Enjoy yor books, my dear.

  12. I've been reading a lot too lately, especially at night before I go to sleep. It won't be long until we have no time for reading, so I've got to get it done now, LOL!

I bet all those flowers in the house are cheerful! Yes, carnations take a lot of neglect and aren't fussy like roses.

Love the new banner! I want to make me some later on this summer!!!

  16. I love your banner Vee! It's beautiful. I like to hang them too but I don't have one as pretty as that. The flowers are so pretty. I really like to read. Like you I'll go for a week, or two with no reading and then read my heart out for days. I just shut out the whole world and read.
