A Haven for Vee

Christmas in July

These are the vintage Christmas tree ornaments that my mother recently gave me. She must have carefully divided her collection between my sister and me because I notice there are missing items.

Specifically, the teapot and the bugle are missing as are an old paper Santa and some angels. This is not a problem; I am just terribly observant some of the time.

These ornaments hung on my great-grandparents' Christmas tree back in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada. The tree that went up on Christmas eve and down on Christmas night. Gheesh. All that work for a mere twenty-four hours.

Yesterday evening, I told my mother that even if she were to give me rubies, emeralds, and diamonds, nothing would mean more to me than these faded, paint-peeling ornaments. I also told her that even if she were to give me rubies, emeralds, and diamonds that my house can't take any more so please stop.

Still working on the sewing room. I hate two-day cleaning efforts in one room. It just goes to show the amount of sorting, etc., that needed doing.

Whatever task you're up to, hope that it goes very well!

Create a terrific day...

  3. Those ornaments are so sweet and precious, Vee. But I know what you mean about having too much "stuff". Everything is "precious" or "I'll use it someday" and it just sits.

We're trying to go through all the junk we've accumulated over the past 21 years at our house, downsizing to move to the farm in the very near future. I think I'll make a bonfire in the front yard... I think it would be alot easier in the long run.

I need to have another garage sale, but I just don't know where I would find the time (or the energy).

I know you're going to be so sewingly creative when you get your room all clean and organized!

    Have a wonderful week!

  6. Christmas in July is a lovely diversion! I have some vintage heirloom ornaments that look much like that...that hung on a tree on the opposite coast of Canada more than half a century ago. I'm smiling about your refusal to accept rubies...emeralds...and diamonds.

I need to attack my loft again one of these days. Not today though. I've been to my knitting group today. :-)

  10. They are precious, Vee. I seem to come from a family on both sides that didn't treasure objects like that. We have so few mementos from our parents or grandparents.

I, however, love Christmas ornaments and buy several on every trip I take, as long as I can find them. I enjoy putting them one by one of my tree and remembering.
I wonder if they will become treasured heirlooms one day?

  11. Oh they are lovely, and your photo taking of them is beautiful indeed.

    Love the colors.

I cannot imagine putting a tree up for just 24 hours. Nope! Probably wouldn't do it. Although, it wouldn't have time to get dusty that way. That would be a bonus!

  12. I've just come in from outside where the humidity levels must be at least 200%. Your Christmas in July post was just what I needed to see. I feel cooler already :-).
Your ornaments are such pretty colors. Not only are they pretty, but the memories they hold are so dear. How interesting about the tree only being up for 24 hours.
I have several of these old ornaments that belonged to my parents. Every year when I bring them out they are like a warm hug.

  14. Your vintage ornaments are beautiful in themselves, but more so because of the memories they hold.
