The Tree and An Early Gift

It's so much fun reading comments. I'd never bother to write another post if I could just guarantee reading comments. Many times I cry when reading them. Yes, I'm weird that way. On the other hand, when I read Lea's comment on my Monday Mosaic post, "are you saying your tree is only three feet tall?" I burst out laughing. Why have I gone this mini-tree route when I am only a sweet young'un not even having reached my sixtieth year? It's all about the lack of space. If I put up a full-sized tree, I lose seating space in our living area and I can't afford to lose any seating space when this is the home where my family gathers. This way I can comfortably seat eight; I can uncomfortably seat fifteen. ;>

An early gift came from my dear friend Miss Sandy@ Quill Cottage. I nearly keeled over seeing the book she sent and the materials that I can use to make some of the projects. Such a thoughtful thing to do! Keep your eyes on Quill Cottage as Miss Sandy loves to share Christmas crafts with her readers. She's already been busy! Thank you so very much, Sandy. You bless my soul.

November 30 and I have reached the end of my commitment to the Giving Thanks Challenge. It became a gift to me (thank you, *Leah*! ) very early on. Some days were such a struggle that I found it difficult to think of anything positive. It's a very good thing when one must examine gratitude. God's gifts abound especially in those tough days. All we have to do is look for them. Today I am grateful for a living hope: Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His great mercy has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to obtain an inheritance which is imperishable...reserved in heaven for you. I Peter 1:3–4

Stay tuned tomorrow when I share another gift from a completely different source based on my review thereof... It's pretty. It's red. It looks like Christmas.

Edited to Add: My daughter just walked up to this tree that I have had since 1995 and asked if it were real. No, it is as fake as fake can be. It is a 6.5 foot tree, but thankfully it comes in sections so I didn't even need John to cut the trunk. I just used the top section.

  1. I think today is tree day here. I have stalled Chelsea for over a week now and it is supposed to be a rainy day. She's just determined that this then is the perfect day for her to decorate. I will be, as usual, in the kitchen....making hot chocolate candles. I am glad that she is willing, eager and does an excellent job with the decorating.

    Your home looks gorgeous!

  3. -giggles- Yes, you *Youngin' You*! You'd *better* explain having a short tree! -chuckle- There are *Rules,* ya' know. Certain ages have certain trees. And all that silliness.

Oh I know, it's all in good fun. This discussion of tree size...

    But!

Isn't it food-for-thought, on how we all Live By Silly Rules? How come? ,-)

And yes, your tree is beeeeeeeeeeeutiful! Super! Gorgeous! And it looks so perfect in your home setting. Yummmmy!!!

I'm still trying to get our really wee little tree "fully-loaded" with decorations. Still! I start stuff early, but don't fully follow through.

Hmmmmmmm, but everyone knows that about me! Heck, I don't even have a post written for today/Tues. ,-)

    Gentle Winter hugs...

  5. well, it's bigger than that!!! and quite
    beautiful, too.

i spent an hour yesterday rearranging
    furniture to accommodate our tree
    that is not here yet.

one year i put up the tree but never
decorated it. the kids added funny
    items throughout the season.

well done on the days of thanksgiving.

    merry Christmas,

  6. Lurv the Tree!!! We always get one from the mountains so it's usually unshapely and sparse but I love that too!

  7. the tree is beautiful!!! I have to agree that reading comments can lift one's heart, just knowing folks are out there caring and sharing is enough for me!

  8. Your tree is beautiful! We are going out this week to get ours. I feel like I am behind already, because we were out of town. Normally I put up my tree the day after Thanksgiving!

  9. Your tree is stunning and I have the same space issue as you do, it seems as my family expands the tree shrinks! I hope it won't dissipate all together some day. Thank you for the sweet mention, totally not necessary. Enjoy your day!

  10. Well ..I spent some time getting up my other Christmas decorations but no tree has been cut yet. We have such a torrential rain storm here. .that I am just counting it as keeping my uncut tree well hydrated.
I like your tree. .I must admit I took a good look around the living room here to see where I might put a tree ontop of something. The only logical place seemed the square coffee table. That would certainly be a conversation piece wouldn't it. I'd just say ..Vee said. .it saves seating room. You all have a place to sit so don't worry if you can't see each other.

  11. I'm itching to get our house decorated, but between the studying and the construction I'm kind of at a loss. But I COULD do my mantel, and put a wreath on the front door. Yes, I could do that. Maybe today.

Vee, I just put up a simple tutorial about the collage I made. I know that your picture taking/editing abilities are wonderful and most of the information is likely already known to you, but I hope I answered whatever question you had.

And would you mind sending me a private email with your mailing address? Please?

I like your thinking - better to have room for people than a big tree!

  12. Oh...I lOVE your tree. It reminds me of Christmas' gone by. So beautiful.

    And hey...love receiving gifts too.

  13. Hi Vee! I love your short, but sweet tree. Your home always looks very pretty and cozy. Our tree isn't short, but is skinny because of space, too.

What a lovely gift you've gotten! I will have to check out Quill Cottage soon.

    Have a great day,
    Cheryl

  14. Hi Vee,
Your tree is so pretty! I love how it's decorated and the tub it's sitting in is perfect! It looks like an old fashioned Christmas, cozy and homey.

    Thanks for stopping by,

  15. Your tree is so pretty, Vee! Is it a plantable tree? That looks like a very pretty gift book from Miss Sandy!

I must visit my grandson for his second birthday in Colorado before I can begin to decorate for Christmas, so I will be forever behind in the Christmas season. Maybe that's a good thing as I won't get carried away spending time and energy on decorating and instead concentrate on what really matters about the season. I'll also bake less, which is probably a good thing for my waistline too! lol

  16. I agree with everyone else - your tree is just the sweetest! I, too, love the tin it's placed in. So adorable - so you!

Thanks, too, for joining me in the Giving Thanks challenge this month. Even though you had grief and loss mingled with thanksgiving, you are an abundantly blessed woman. So am I.

    Happy December, Friend!

  17. Your little tree is beautiful. It really isn't the size that counts!
I've been known to cry over comments too.

  18. I love your tree. I'm thinking about not putting my tree up this year because I'm space-challenged, as well, and it would mean dragging furniture upstairs just to make room for the tree. Your tree is the perfect solution!

  19. I love your tree! It's absolutely adorable! Yes, sometimes space is a problem.

  20. Vee,
Your tree is beautiful! - even if it isn't real and is only 3 feet tall -I love the light and the warm color of the wood on the walls and ceiling. It looks so warm and inviting!

  21. I love your tree...I did see where a designer hung her tree...yes, upside down so she wouldn't loose any floor space! LOL

  22. Ha, ha, our kids notice EVERYTHING, don't they???

You're a toddler compared to me.

I can't imagine cramming 15 inside. Ten nearly did me in, but in fair weather I can handle 10 inside and 10 outside at the old farm table under the arbor.

    Sending love,

  23. Hi Vee! I think your tree is beautiful! And how innovative of you to use the tree you already had, but only the part you needed:)
The whole Christmas thing feels a bit like a runaway train to me, and I am left nailed to the tracks struggling to get out of the way.
I think it's time for an attitude adjustment:(
Glad you had a nice Thanksgiving!

  24. Making me chuckle as always Vee! I have the same seating verses large tree issue.

...and yes I am still laughing, keeping a thankful heart as you have addressed here has definitely helped.

  25. "A living hope..." thank you, Vee. Many of us needed that today. I have been glad for the Giving Thanks project as well... so Brava to Leah for leading the way.

  26. Vee, Your tree is beautiful, I love the reflection in the glass. I too thought is was a real tree, and was beginning to be little envious, as I would love to have one here this year, (still working on dh ).
Lovely thoughtful gift, I will visit quill cottage.
    Enjoy your day.
    Hugs,

  27. Your tree is perfect and does look real! Don't the twinkly lights brighten our moods? My hubby has gone lighting crazy and I'm loving it! Enjoy your week! ♥

  28. I laughed as I drove to work today: a radio personality was doing a routine about a guy explaining to his wife why there was now a tree in their living room. "We gotta decorate a tree for Jesus!" he explained.

I have a small space too, and table top trees have always charmed me more than massive lumberjack bait sized conifers.

  29. You crowned the month of November with gratitude for the Living Hope we have as mentioned in 1 Peter 1 and that is a great introduction to the month of December and Christmas as well!

Your tree is lovely and I understand the need for space. We have a very tall and narrow tree so that we can all crowd around. This year we have had our missionary kids (family of 6) living with us (until Dec 30th) so there's been lots of fun with decorating and "hands on" activities. Such cute comments, wish I could remember them all. "Grandma, where did you get this ornament?" "From your Daddy honey, when he was a little boy." "Oh, Grandma, he must have loved you very much!"

  31. You're little tree is very pretty! The smaller trees are much more practical. We have two slimlined ones to minimize on space needs.

  32. I don't think the size of the tree really matters as much as the love that is put into decorating it. Your tree is absolutely gorgeous and I just love the container you put it in! What wonderful gifts you recieved. I can't wait to see what kinds of crafts you make!

  33. Your tree is very pretty. I'm with you on the space thing! Yours looks lovely and is a great focal point in your room.

I haven't done one ounce of Christmas decorating yet. I see from my blog counter that there are 12 days until Christmas. I better get busy! Thanks for inspiring me.
