I think that I shall never see
A poem lovely as a tree.

~Joyce Kilmer
Right. You may remember what I really think.
After meeting with Gwen and Mike, we had errands to run in Portland at Borders and at The Christmas Tree Shop. Completing those, I asked John if he minded finding the ocean. This is not as easy as it sounds even in our corner. We knew that we could go to nearby parks, though I had already taken pictures of them many times over. Off we set. I tell you what. There are so many trees in Maine blocking the best views. Trees. I love them. They are lovely. But they are a dime a flippin' dozen and I want to see things in addition to trees. With many false starts and stops, we managed to find Ferry Beach. Would you believe that we had to walk through the forest to get to the beach even there? Oh my! Over the river and through the woods and under the road we go... until we glimpse the sea...
Ordinarily, I would be linking to Mary at Little Red House and participating in Mosaic Monday. Though I am linking, I am not participating as I have a new blogging policy in effect until I get myself under control. This means that I will neither be posting nor visiting in Blogdom as often as I would like. Things are a
Thank you for reading. You are so appreciated. This is not goodbye. It's a one, two, skip a few, three, four skip some more... Until next time... |

Finding the Sea

Vee, you are so funny! Luckily when we visited Maine, my daughter had found some good little restaurants and a couple of good beaches that put up right on the water. You're right; you have to know where you're going. Your pictures are lovely and you found some good places. Yes, trees are great shade givers, hiders of things you don't want seen, but they can get in the way! :D
ReplyDeleteLovely post Vee, and I totally understand the need to limit the blog visits and comments. The sea is so calming. Big hugs, Margie.
ReplyDeleteBut! You COULD get to the ocean! -sigh- Lucky you!
ReplyDelete"Things are a bit lot out of control with computer time"
Understood!
"and I must behave myself."
Just... Don't go and get too alll-virtuous, on us.
After your visitors, you were sounding that way. ( Like; "Gotta' stop just having fun, and get down to doing good works, and all that stuff.") Don't go and get too carried away, with this trend.
Please...
:-)
This is not about good works, Auntie. This is about getting my life back on track. My back is killing me for one thing, my weight is up, my exercising is non-existent. You get the picture.
ReplyDeleteVee, I wish you could share some of those trees.
ReplyDeleteWe all understand about getting our lives under control - the need for it. Wishing you a fun, happy and fast journey to success!
Thank you for the beautiful walk to the sea! Much success to you as you implement your new blogging policy. I think you are a perfect blogger --- but I know --- we all have areas in our lives that we need to take charge of. Blessings on you today!
ReplyDeleteHa Ha! You can't see the water for the trees is so true sometimes. I love the poem by Joyce Kilmer. I think we had to memorize part of it in grade school. Your collages of the beach are beautiful and very worth the walk through the trees. I'll certainly miss seeing you here as often. I've been on too much too. Hugs, Pamela
ReplyDeleteHi Vee,
ReplyDeleteI love Maine, your ocean photos are gorgeous. Thank you for your video, it was refreshing to hear the sounds of the ocean.
Hope your computer glitches get under control. Have a lovely day.
Karen
What a beautiful beach! So different than Florida beaches.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy you blog break time...
Hugs,
Penny
Beautiful photos, Vee!
ReplyDeleteWe were planning our trip and we are going to drive the Maine coastline - well not the whole thing but I am so excited!

Oh, oh, oh! You are making me homesick already! I shall never be the same after those days of walking the ocean edge. Already I long to go back! I know what you mean though, in how many hidden sanctuaries there are, tucked away and obscured from view because of all the foliage. Glad you had a special "remainder of the day" after we left on the 11th.
ReplyDeleteIt was worth the search and the walk through the woods! Beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteI seem to be spending less time in blogland but more time on the computer with Etsy. Today and tomorrow I will focus on deep cleaning in the main areas of our home as we are having a prayer meeting here tomorrow night for our friend Susanna and another friend, Jon, who is facing some serious health issues.
I had to plan an event to pry me away from the computer! Sigh....
There was a beach like that on Lake Michigan that we visited often. Although it offered two ways to get there, one going the trail through the woods and the other a man made straight path.
ReplyDeleteI was quite surprised how much I accomplished after the lightening strike. I didn't think I spent that much time on the computer (I already tried to limit time) but when one's modem has been fried and computer time is no option... wow!
It was like gaining at least one extra hour a day (and I had already cut out commenting on most blogs).
Thanks for the pictures...I so miss trees...and never see the ocean much, so I really enjoyed this. God creation just makes me want to travel.
ReplyDeleteSee you when you can stop by...enjoy getting it under control and blessings with your time.
School is starting here...so busy, busy, busy also
Understand about limiting computer time!!
ReplyDeleteWell worth the walk to see the ocean. : )
Enjoy your day Vee!
I'm glad you made it to the sea! I've had a yearning to walk along the seashore and hopefully will be able to do it late in August. Have a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteThank you for the video clip. Such a small thing, for such a huge sensation! I was there. Our senses are an amazing thing. I could smell and feel it besides seeing and hearing it. For a midland girl who grew up near the beach it was bliss.
ReplyDeleteAnd good for you. I know that I too will have to be careful with school starting soon. I'll definitely still be checking in with you (I'd miss the belly laughs that you so often provide)!
Blessings, Debbie
What a nice walk to get to see the beautiful ocean! I love trees, but not when they block my view. View is very important to me. We've looked at a couple of properties in the past that we thought we might want but they didn't have a view. That killed the deal right there.
ReplyDeleteI understand your need to step back from the computer, I need to do the same and for all the reasons you gave. Have a terrific week!
Oh, Vee..me, too. I HAVE to slow myself down on this blogging thing, too. All at once, it seems I am DRIVEN to do posts that allow me to link up to 101 memes and it's killin' me. I am just in thoughts of not doing ANY memes. This is supposed to be fun..not something that knocks the breath out of ya.
ReplyDeleteLiving on the Plains of West Texas, hundreds, if not thousands, of miles to the nearest beach and water, I CRAVE having a little beach shack. I want it....
I've always wanted to go to Maine. The sea looks inviting.
ReplyDeleteI must go down to the sea again...! Love your sea pic's.
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm smiling at your resolve to stay away from the computer...and skip a little more. I know whereof you speak!
Howdy-do, Vee - I DO understand about spending less time on the computer. I think all the busy-ness in my life of late has been putting lovely blogland on the back burner for me, too. I've been lucky to get a post out once every 2-3 weeks - doesn't mean I'm not visiting a bit.
ReplyDeleteTake a break - you need it, I'm sure. There'll be time for blogging when it gets cold again and you're stuck inside!
I would take a few of your trees right now... we have trees dying left and right down here in Texas with our drought...
I hear walking on the beach is great exercise!
Just beautiful!!! I love the shore and all the beauty and adventure to be found there.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your down time from the computer. It's probably something we should all do from time to time. =)
I really enjoyed listening to the gentle waves crashing on shore in your video, Vee. It is so relaxing and stress relieving.
ReplyDeleteI am in the middle of quite a bit wedding planning whcih has been keeping me quite busy. Even though it is months away, wedding vendors are snapped up pretty quickly in NYC and they have to be booked early. My head is swimming with flowers and hotels and menus. etc, etc. I have been online all morning looking at favors and flowers. ACK! I'll be so relieved when we have most of this done. Next in line is flying out to Colorado to go wedding dress shopping with my daughter! So if I skip some days or are late visiting you'll know why.
Enjoy your exercising! I need to do the same!:)
From your friendly "exhort" (rofl)--take all the time you need. We're not going anywhere. I agree with Auntie, AT LEAST YOU GET TO THE OCEAN!! The Gulf is only 3 -1/2 hrs south and as you know, it took me 19 yrs to get there last month, LOLOL AND that was with the youth group. Oh well, better late than never. Post when you can. LOVELY PICTURES BTW!!! Blessings.
ReplyDeleteHi Vee,
ReplyDeleteOH how I love the sound of the ocean. I can't wait for our family vacation in Oct. we will be staying in a beach house in Hawaii.
I completely understand how blogging and visiting can sweep away so much time.
Take a break and rest for awhile.
Have a sweet day and hugs, Elizabeth
Blogging really can be time consuming. I think we need a break from time to time..
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are lovely!
Take a break and we'll be here when you return...
Oh Vee, no matter what it took to get there, IT WAS WELL WORTH THE TRIP!
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen the ocean in 3 years and it's making me very sad. Your beautiful pics however are a sight for sore eyes :)
Thank you
So lovely! Portland head lighthouse was one fantastic trip I took (I was in the area for business) and I sooo wanted Mr. B to see it too..ah..maybe someday :-)
ReplyDeleteAs far as the blog time...I am going through the same thing..time is short, priorities must be set..and life is to be lived..after all, that's where all the blog-fodder comes from! So I totally get it..and me too! See ya when I see ya!
XXOO
Thanks for the trip to the sea. It was worth going through all those darn trees. I really appreciate it because no matter how you look at it, I'm 900 miles from the ocean. We're only 50 miles from Lake Michigan, which is so large that it creates it's own weather but still, it's not the ocean.
ReplyDeleteI totally understand about the blogging thing. The balance is really hard to find and I think we're all struggling with that one. See you soon!
Vee
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean. I am trying to work out some sort of "sane" blogging schedule too.
Thank you for my trip to the beach!
I love the waters and have never seen Maines before. Did you dig your tootsies into that sand?
I hope so!
Vee,
ReplyDeleteBeautful, beautiful.
I agree. Moderation in everything is the key. Good call, and a good philosophy!
Hey, that's quite okay! Skip over and visit me once a week or so and see pretty pictures! Ok, you can make it two weeks...
ReplyDeleteThe walk through the trees was well worth the view in the end, I'd say.
ReplyDeleteBlogging is very time-consuming. I've pulled back somewhat, too. While connecting with people all over the globe is great, there's a lot of living to do in the here and now where I live.
Having just taken most of the summer off from blogging, I salute you and your efforts, Vee. It is so easy to get caught up in the little screen and miss the beauty of life around you. I hope your time away means only good things for you and John.
ReplyDeleteI understand taking time for yourself - good for you! Now, stick with it, this is where I'm having a bit of trouble. I giggled at your post to Happyone about John finding you in a field after a few hours. Don't go wandering off. I have to get my motivation stick out on myself too.
ReplyDeleteI'm with you on the trees - we have gazillions over here too.
ReplyDeleteBlogging can get in the way of living the life about which we blog - so I step back from time to time too.
Vee,
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for letting me hitch a ride along to the sea, it has been ever so long, two years!, since I have stood seaside and I miss it so!
We have ever so many trees here too, that is why when I go to Target I sit in my car and just glory at seeing the clouds and expanse of bright blue skies.
I understand about the whole posting, visiting, and responding thing. There are only so many hours in a day and much them must be spent on real living. Enjoy skipping!
Oh my Dear! Of course I applaud wanting to get your life back on track, as you said it. And your back hurting, and weight and non-exercise........ Oh yes, your body is sending you a message! Loud and clear!
ReplyDeleteDo listen to it. And do spend the time you need, to figure out how to make your body *happier.* Because we can't be happy or fully useful in any way, when our body is "not-into-it" too.
Mmmmmm, could we encourage each other, on the exercise part? I began a lovely daily morning walk. And the UTI struck! And you can figure, my lovely plan went out the window. -sigh-
But it's lovely today and later, when the sun isn't so strong, I am going to walk! And test my camera too. :-)
Gentle hugs........

Wow. I love hearing the ocean. Beautiful pictures and beautiful video. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI totally understand about the computer time thing. We all become obsessed and need to step back from time to time... :)
((Hugs))
Laura
I love your new policy and have been trying to cut back myself! Love the pictures of the sea!
ReplyDeleteOh! It's just lovely and those blue skies, beautiful. glad you found it.
