Tricolored Beech

Good thing I'm writing this here blog for myself; otherwise, I'd quit. Pretty sure that everyone is at the beach!

Let's discuss a beech of another sort.  My favorite tree, and I know that I've shared this before, is a tricolored beech. I shared it in autumn last year and so I wanted you to see it in summer.

Beech and Barn

It's called tricolor for the rose, green, and white of its leaves. Here, a closer look...

As I was taking these photos the other day, I thought how pleasant an outdoor tea would be right under these branches. I'm planning one for tomorrow and you're invited, bring your imagination. By the way, do you have a favorite tree?

  1. What an uncommon tree, love it! I have never seen one of these before. I'd love a spot of tea as long as it is cold, too hot here for any warm beverages. Have a wonderful tea!

  2. That is gorgeous. I was trying to make that pink into flowers.....but I love that it is the tips of the leaves. Pretty.

Tea...outside....in this heat? Maybe. With you? Definitely!

  3. I would love to have tea under your tree with you Vee! I love oak trees, just for their size and strengh. I love willow trees, for their swaying beauty. I love maple trees for their beautiful fall color.

  5. Hey, I'm not at the beach! I have never seen a tri-coloured beech tree before and I think it's quite pretty. How unusual to have the pink and white in the leaves. My favorite tree is the sugar maple especially their bright orange colour in the fall. Can't wait to see your tea under the tree post! Have a lovely day. Blessings, Pamela

  6. An unusual and very pretty tree.
I like lots of trees but I think my favorite is a weeping willow. I like how you can hide inside it when the leaves reach down to the ground.

  7. What a beautiful tree. I don't have a favorite tree, but if I had one of those, that one might just earn the title "favorite".

Oh wait - I used to have a Japanese Red Maple. That was one beautiful tree.

  8. It is beautiful, Vee - I love beech trees. In fact, I would love a garden big enough to have at least one!

The hooks are great - I also wanted many many. Oh well. One at a time will have to do!

  9. That's a beautiful tree! Great photos. I love trees, but can't think of a particular favorite because there are so many beautiful ones. I love the flowering trees in the spring like the redbuds and dogwoods, then there are the big mighty oaks, the flaming reds of the maples in the fall, etc. It's hard to choose just one!

If you have weather nice enough to sit outside and have tea, then I'll definitely be there! I'd love to have some fresh air about now. It's been too hot to go outside unless it's very early morning which is when I water my flowers. And by the time I've gotten that done, it's heating up and I'm ready to head inside to the a/c. Just call me a wimp!

  10. Will address your first line, in backchannel chat. :-)

Have never seen a Beech Tree! IT IS SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL! How lucky you are to have one.

Not even "Uncle A." the woodworker, has seen one growing. And he's never had the opportunity to work with it either.

    Just lovely!

    Gentle hugs...

  12. Oh yes, please! Afternoon Tea under your lovely tree!

Oh may we please dress up for it too? Flowing, summer-time dress with a pretty hat too, of course! Complete with the white stockings used back a ways in time.

I know, they itch, but this is a VIRTUAL REALITY TEA PARTY. No itching in VR!

And of course, since it's VR, I will have my girl-ish figure too! And my hair the color of in youth. :-)

Ohhhhhhhhh, I want to wear all White please. With just a single pink flower tucked somewhere, perhaps on my hat band. :-)

And a white lace parasol, of course I have to carry that.

And since it's VR, we can have all the clotted cream and scones we want and not a calorie or a Sat/Fat/Gram will settle in our bod.

Mmmmmmmmmmm... Please may I also bring some "bubbly" to share, along with the Tea? I'll of course provide a cut-glass cooling *bucket*.<--Better say that word, like the"Keeping Up Appearance' gal would pronounce it. -giggles-

And I'll bring the cut glass champagne flutes too. Please have some cut up strawberries for us to pop into the flutes. We who choose some Champagne along with our Tea. :-)

-Fanning self- Whewwwwwwwwwww, I'm all tired out from just planning. Must get going and get my outfit together, etc., etc., etc.

    Tahhhh-tahhhhhhh...

See you all, at 4 this afternoon!!!!

    :-)

  13. Thanks for sharing your tree with us and a cup of tea in the shade of it's branches. 5'll bring the Butterhorns. I imagine we'd have many things to talk about Vee! I missed your teacup post and want to say I love your collage!

  14. I've never seen a Beech tree before and it's beautiuful! My favorite tree is a redbud or a dogwood. I love flowering trees. I'm not at the beach either. I'm in the sweltering 104 degree heat of Missouri.
I would love some tea under your tree and I'll bring some quilts to sit on while we sip our tea!

  15. I have so many favorite trees. Oak, holly, rowan, lombardy poplars,Horse chestnuts,
Gingko. Irish junipers....a powdery blue conifer with soft needles that I've never identified.

I know there are more....I have loved trees since I was a small child.

And these are types. There are individual trees I love.

Your tri-color beech is especially beautiful and I've never seen one so immense. Perfect for having tea beneath, Vee!

  16. For the tea party, I'd love to bring "summer pudding" which I had at a friend's home when I was in England last summer. I had never heard of it before and I don't think we know it well in the US. But it would be a lovely dessert for the glorious 4th of July!

There are lot of recipes on the internet, but Emeril Lagasse's is really good:

  17. I'm not at the beach - although it's only 5 minutes away!

I'd love to come for tea under the tri-color beech. I'll bring some plum platz. And please, can I drink my tea from the yellow teacup?

  18. I love trees...and have many favorites. I think weeping willows are beautiful in the summer...and majestic cedars...and dogwood...and oak. And your beech is most lovely. And yes...I'll be there for tea tomorrow!

  19. First time I've seen a Beech tree, I'm sure it would hate south Texas heat.
This is a beautiful tree and so unique.

My favorite tree....hmmm, can't choose just one....Live Oak, Magnolia and Texas Mesquite.

Count me in on the tea party!

  20. I love love love that tree - it's beautiful - never seen one before. We obviously don't have any down here... not that it would survive this summer.

I can never decide between the cottonwood and the sycamore. I love to stand underneath the cottonwood and let all the cotton fall down on my head, and yet I LOVE the bark on the sycamore and gold they turn in the fall...

  21. Some days it is just too hot to go online! :)

I never saw a tri-colored beech tree before -- it is very pretty! What can I bring to the tea party, Vee? I just got a catalog in the mail today from Fancyflours.com,. They have the most delightful (and expensive) baking goods and accessories. I wanted to have a tea party after looking at their goodies :)

  22. I love your Tricolored Beech. I love trees although out here in the west it is hard to find "a tree". I was a Michigan Certified Nurseryman back in the 1980-90's. My hubby and I planted a Princeton Gold Norway Maple in front of our house that was spectacular.

  23. How beautiful. Yes my favorite tree is Riverbirch. We have one right outside our front door.
HH drew you name for the painting of the poppies you indicated. If you will send me your address I will mail it to you. My email is on my profile.

  24. I'll be there Vee! Should I dress for the occasion?
I've never seen a beech tree before. I wonder if it would grow where I live. It is very pretty with it multi-colors. It would add some needed color to all my pine and birch.

  25. Tea under the beech tree sounds heavenly. Can we wear hats and white gloves? Might need an air conditioner though! =) I don't think I have ever seen a tree so pretty. I love those pink tipped leaves.

Hope your summer days are going well and you are keeping cool. Days like we have been happen make me want to move to Alaska!

  27. This is the first time I've ever seen a tri-colored beech. Now I've got a new item to tell my son-in-law (the landscaper) that I want in my yard. He will thank you.

  28. Hi Vee,
Oh yes, I would love to have tea with you under the grand tricolored beech twig..(Earl Gray) Please with one sugar.

  30. Vee,
Oh! Good to know! We saw one of this once and thought it was sick and dying. But now I find out that the wonderful color of the leaves is normal. What a relief!
    What a lovely tree.
Oh, and we already have a fireplace in the master bedroom. LOL. It's a gas insert that is the heat source.

  31. Thanks Vee for your encouragement. I am trusting in the Lord to fear not...it is difficult at times. I appreciate your visits!

  32. Hey, I hear you are going to have 'tea' with my sister soon. How lovely for both of you...to meet finally. I am so pleased!

  33. I have never seen a beach tree--beautiful! And such good shots! Favorite tree? Christmas :-)

  34. What a unique and beautiful tree! Too hot for picnics here! We had a heat index of 119 today and it is supposed to be 120 tomorrow! Extremely humid too--just miserable, so there is no cooking in my kitchen!
Though, it's considered a lowly, nuisance tree by many, I love the mimosa tree with it's fragrant, fuzzy blossoms and branches that fork just right to sit in if they get big enough! Crepe Myrtles, redbuds and scarlet maples are nice too!

  35. Vee,
This is a beautiful tree, I love the colors. I drive to the beach often, but I prefer to sit on the beach in September when the crowds have left and the sun isn't so strong.

Today looks like a beautiful day and I like the temperature.

    Happy Wednesday.

    Karen
