Memorial Day Weekend

 Run a lot

 Watch a lot

 Play Streamer Tag

 Keep those streamers airborne

Take a break

Try on your super hero capes (made by Auntie)

Tie on your jet packs (as seen on Pinterest by Auntie)

 Dream of Flying

 Keep on Trying

Get some help with the dream

Flap your wings a little and believe

(Mama does some encouraging; John does, too, while some of us can't help but giggle.)

What a guy!

Hope that your weekend was as much fun as mine...

My heart is full when I think of all those who have laid down their lives so that children can romp on a lawn, dream of flying, and live in a free country. We never forget that freedom is not "free."

  1. What a great time and you are right. . .we owe the wonderful times and freedom we have to do so to those who have fought for the rights we have. What a blessing to see the happiness our children have. Your daughter is very creative! I love it that she takes the time to make special things for her nephews to enjoy. She definitely gets that creative gene from you.

  5. I love the superhero capes and jet packs. What fun the grands had and I believe you did too! Is it raining there? It's cold here - 8 celsius and rain on the way. I can't complain though because the last 2 weeks have been very nice! Have a great week.

  11. Just got to view the video. It didn't come through earlier on the iPad. How adorable! He wants to see if it works!! How did your daughter get the crepe paper inside the bottles? Your lawn looks like a park ~ it's so inviting and such a great place for two little boys to run.

  12. All super-wonderful photos!

But know which one I like the best? The one above the caption of "Try on your super hero capes (made by Auntie)"

    And why is that, Auntie?

Because it gives older 'grand' a kind of a spotlight to shine in. Look at his BEAUTIFUL blue eyes!!!

See... "Little grand," with all those curls, tends to automatically kind of grab the spotlight, from older bro. If you know what I mean? Can't help it. Those still golden curls just grab attention.

So, I'm sooooooooooooooooooo glad to see older bro, really showing off his cuteness.

    Silly ol' Auntie, hu? :-)

  16. Sweet family pictures, Vee! Your boys are growing up right before our eyes. Looks like they had a "BLAST" with those jet-packs and capes! What a sweet aunt to do that for them!

As we have several friends and loved ones in the service, yesterday brought some somber moments, too, as well as fun times. I am so thankful for their sacrifice.

  19. It looks like a good time was had by all...and the sun shone on your picnic as well! Fun ideas there...for those who wish to fly. And yes...our freedom has come with a price. It's always good to be reminded.

  20. Oh, I love this jet pack idea! Have to remember it when Stephen gets to this age......I'll have to ask Alice if she thinks Nathan is too old already........But then, my bil got his sons to spend a long time with salt shakers in hand trying to salt the tails of birds to catch them, and they were much older.

  23. Adorable! Looks like a great day!
We had our 4 here and had good beach weather.
Had a little Memorial Service , flag raising with them. Never too young to learn people gave their lives for them to be able to enjoy a day at the beach!

  24. Now that does look like a FUN time for all ... the superheroes and the spectators too. This post brought back fond memories of the joys of little boys.
You closing paragraph is well said and I heartily agree.

  26. That Auntie is pretty clever and a hero to boys, I think!

What a wonderful day you had. We were quiet and laid back just what we needed, and we were cool until Lindsay shot the A/C with an arrow...now we are hot stuff!

Oh, well, we are living "old school" with the fans and sitting outside in the shade more....

  31. Oh, it looks like a lovely day for all of you! Those capes and jet packs are fabulous...although I found myself wishing that Little Grand could take to the air as he wanted (just a wee bit off the ground). I imagine that Laurel is a much-loved aunt.

  39. Oh Vee.....you can turn comments off...but we just find another way!
Sorry you have having ONE of those days...weeks?? We all have them. I have NO IDEA what foundless means...and just so you don't feel alone...I am not happy with my hair either....but at least I do have hair, so I try not to complain....and I can't say I need a vacation cuz, I just got back!!
Got any wine....hot bath, chocolate, and a glass of wine...trust me, you will feel so much better!!

  40. Oh I love seeing children play like this - full of imagination and freedom. Isn't that what our soldiers fought (and fight) for? Wonderful!

And today you're cranky - that happens, doesn't it? I know what you mean by bad hair. The other day mine was driving me crazy and so I took the scissors to it myself. I fancy that it looks better, but boy, it's a LOT shorter. But there's one thing about hair - it will grow again.

I hope you wake up full of zip and spunk, happy as a lark.

  41. Lol you may have closed your comments, but at least you have extremely green colored grass, and lush trees which I will never have the privilege of in my backyard again. I can see why you are itching to plant, that Hemlock planter looks amazing. Your grandson is soooo cute with all his dreams and imagination. The hair thing...oh well I hate my hair too. I have got to figure something out for the wedding. Let me know if you come across any great styles for short hair, that doesn't look like an old lady mother of the bride...LoL...because I guess that is exactly what I am and I don't like that either ;)
