Gone

Sometimes she promises to be right back. Sometimes she keeps her promise, yet her posts are further and further apart. Then she's gone.

Just like that.

I hate when that happens!

As you know, I keep *a separate blog* with links and buttons. More and more, I'm finding those who've moved on to other pursuits leaving their once lovingly tended blogs behind. I deleted five just yesterday. I was clinging too hard, but one has to let go. Right? I must allow others to have their own minds about blogs, life, interests. So I let them go...eventually...and sometimes I keep the tissue box handy.

So I am looking for a new-to-me blog. Is there one that you have recently found that you love? I'm eager to hear what you think is a great blog that perhaps not too many know about yet. We all love PW, but perhaps a blog not quite that big, not quite that popular.

Say, want to wander in a lovely home garden and see wonderful quilts made for cozy days? You can't go wrong visiting Mia's Country Living. Mia lives in Norway. (She writes in English.) Just a sweet get-away from it all blog for sure.

You're not planning on going anywhere, are you?

  2. Dear Vee, I hope you haven't deleted me.. I know I haven't been around for about 6 weeks. I didn't mean to be gone that long. Life has been busy and just haven't taken the time to blog. I do plan to be back. If I decide to quit blogging I will let you all know.
    Have a great weekend! Barb

  4. I'm not going anywhere! Do you read Debbie's blog at Words on Wheels?http://wordsuponwheels.blogspot.com

She was on a blogging break but is back with at least one post a week. She is smart, funny, has a way with a story (like you) and loves the Lord.

  5. I wish bloggers would say they are going on a break and not leave us wondering. And I always hope they come back! Here are 2 'new to me' blogs that I have added to my list lately. http://arlenegrimm.blogspot.com/ and http://thelavenderbouquet.blogspot.com/ . Nice to make new blog buddies, too! Enjoy your day! I'm going to check your list and see if I am still on it! hahaha! HUGS!!!

  7. I'm holding on by the very tips of my fingernails and looking forward to long winter days to spend spiffing up my poor neglected blog. :-) And to find some new ones as well. I'll have to see what you find out and do some visiting then.

  8. No, Vee, I am not going anywhere. I, too, have discovered so many blog friends who have just stopped their blogs and they are still on my favorites list so I am taking those off. Sad, but people get tired and move on and that is ok. I like the idea of adding a link of a favorite blog on my post. Think I will do that.

  9. Oh I so love blogging ~ I must admit I got a little side tracked with a few life issues this Summer but since I started two years ago I have found blogging to be so rewarding . I do hope I am at it for a long time. I know what you mean though about favorites that seem to taper off and then just be gone ~ sad to see them go .

  10. Could you add my blog to your page. It is www.myirishcottagehome.blogspot.com Thank you. I am a follower and totally agree with you here. I hate to see a good blog and than it goes dormant, but life does get in the way of blogging. HA! HA!

  11. Good morning! Yes, I have lost what I considered to be really GOOD friends, some honest to goodness "kindred spirits" when they just quit blogging. It REALLY bothered me. I searched and a couple of them I have kept up correspondence via e-mail, but a few others are just...GONE. It's funny how you can really get to know a person (in a way I guess) through a blog post, and follow along on their everyday lives, and then suddenly it is just over....Most of the new blogs I follow are quilting blogs and I am a lurker, haha. Read all their stories, drool over their projects, "COPY" ideas and suggestions and only comment when I am entering a give away, lol. So no new friends for me over here. You have SOOO many, and always have SOOO many comments I have no idea how you keep up with it all. But they are probably like me...once they have read your blog, they are hooked. Enjoy your week-end Vee!

  12. I will confess ... I've started paying more attention to FaceBook than my blog. I follow many of my favorite blogs on FB and it is easier for me ... I read on FB and make a comment there and happily go on to the next. And, since I've being doing more mixed-media ... many of those folks are also on FB. I plan on continuing to blog ... now and then. I need to check out your other blog!

  13. I have had to delete a few blogs cause they just stopped blogging for what ever reason , these things happen but it would be nice if they let their followers know whats going on and or why or that they just wont be blogging any more ! A lot of bloggers have the want to quit as it can be a stressful thing having the feeling to keep their followers happy with a post every day , for my self well I either have something to post about or I don't it's just the way it is for me I don't stress over it either I have some thing to say or share or I dont plain and simple but I am always thankful and grateful for the followers I have who stick it out with me . I am on FB and follow blogs on there that have switched to Google+ and I cant comment through blogger but I only go on there to stay in touch with our kids mostly I find FB not as private no matter what settings you have ! Thanks for sharing , Have a good weekend !

  15. Hi Vee,

I hate it too. I know oftentimes our hearts and emotions get involved....and letting go is difficult for sure. I felt that way about Cindy Adkins....health issues.....and then her emails started being returned.....and I hurt, still...I worry about her....so I get ya on this post.

I have been away caring for my other sister who just had a nasty painful surgery but wanted to stay home to recover, so I am at her house all day lately. I can't blog post or spend much time on pc..............when I get home tonight I will give you a few to read I found recently.

    Hugs.

PS I don't know how to delete a blog once it is on my reader's list. I have been trying to figure it out for over a year. Share please? Thanks.

  17. I think you might visit all of the ones that I visit. It seems so, anyway.
I can't tell you how much I relate to this post! I keep saying that one of the main things keeping me away from blogging is that I miss so many old blog friends. Just take a gander at my sidebar and see how many folks haven't posted in months and months. Makes me sad.

(In an aside, I'm having the same problem with my church. We have lost so many of the faithful in recent years, either from death, moving, or a change of churches. I'm LONELY for them.)

Thanks for the boost in the butt to get out there and meet new folks, both online and in the flesh.

  18. We're not going away, no! We're finally letting go of other jobs and things so that blogging (which I love) can become a more central part of my writing and sharing time with kindred spirits. (Even hubby has finally recognized that blogging for me is as essential to me as eating... well almost).

Some of those very early bloggers I met when I first started are long gone, but they still hold sweet memories, probably because they were the first.

I bless them and release them to their new ventures.

  19. Mia's blog is so full of beauty - one of my very favorites.
I too wish that bloggers who leave would make an announcement. I understand that sometimes they can't, but these friendships made over the Internet are real and readers are left to wonder and sometimes worry.

  21. I did some housecleaning a few months ago too. There are some that I keep, though, because the web feeds don't work. The blog roll shows that they haven't posted anything new, but a click easily shows that they have been posting. I guess that is one of those pesky blogger burps. I have also deleted a few blogs on my listings because the bloggers showed some insensitivity to our personal health situation. I am normally very happy-go-lucky, but I admit to possessing a short fuse when it comes to that particular subject matter.

  22. Doesn't it just drive you mad? I always wish that if someone is going to quit they would at least write a final post saying good-bye. They don't have to divulge personal tragedies or anything, but a final farewell is so much easier to understand than a sudden drop off. I have noticed a LOT fewer people posting this summer, I hold out hope that it is just summer fun that is keeping them busy and that they will return in the fall. I know a lot of people have moved on to instagram and facebook, but for me I love blogs the best. I sometimes wonder whether anything I have to say is still of interest to anyone, but since it's my own little world and I like being dictator there, I continue ;>) I enjoy reading Dori at The Red Feed sack.

  23. I know what you mean, Vee! I've sadly lost quite a few favorite blogs over the years. I love a blog that I found after I blogged about the Firehouse Quilt show last year, One of the ladies who entered a few quilts into the show wrote to me and gave me her blog link. She stopped blogging for awhile afterward, but then restarted. She is a devout Christian, quilts, eats very healthy, and also is a grandmother and lives in Colorado so we have a lot in common. Her name is Barbara and her blog is My Journal Reflections. http://myjournalreflections.blogspot.com/2014/08/the-blessing-of-ordinary-day.html

  25. Yes, we all feel let down at times when blogging friends suddenly disappear without warning. Even if we haven't yet met in person, those of us who care about friends we make online still don't enjoy losing them with no idea where they've gone, or why. Yes, many are now more into FaceBook etc., not me though, blogging's my first and only online love.

Vee, because you appear to enjoy history depicted on English TV, such as in the Downtown Abbey series, I feel you just might enjoy a wonderful blog titled "A Bit About Britain", penned and photographed by a charming gentleman named Mike. He will take you along on amazing journeys to places in Britain which even many of we Brits have never even heard of! He writes so well, digs up such interesting historical facts, and has such a marvelous sense of humor bringing totally unexpected morsels of fun to his posts, so they are often hilarious and never boring. I think you might enjoy seeing what Mike's eye finds in Britain and shares with the world.
So Vee, go look here - http://bitaboutbritain.blogspot.com - and tell Mike I sent you!

I'm heading up your way tomorrow - a sad journey to say goodbye to my sweet mother-in-law who died 2 days ago. A few days in New Hampshire and Maine will also be pleasant though - we do miss living in New
England even though we moved away such a long time ago.

Enjoy your weekend dear - I may be "gone" for a few days but you're stuck with me as I'll be back - please don't delete me!
    Hugs - Mary

  26. It was interesting to read your post and the comments Vee. Mary suggested Mike's blog, A Bit About Britain, and I just started following him. He writes such interesting blogs about England. Also, Amy at Love Made My Home (another English Blogger on my sidebar) that I enjoy, and Judy at Cranberry Morning in the US. I hope you find some great new ones to fill that gap. :) We're in Calgary waiting for baby to arrive and having a fantastic time with the boys.

  28. It is sad to see bloggers go. A couple I hang on to and they do make an appearance every now and again. I seem to have had so little time for blogging (writing or reading) this summer but I do miss it. It is so enriching. For instance, hubby walked into the kitchen a few hours ago and asked if I had heard of the movie The Giver, LOL. I grabbed my phone and got your blog up.
Back to missing bloggers--I always hope it's nothing terrible that made them go away .., just another season of life.

  29. It is so easy to lose interest. I am so fed up with spammers coming through on Google +, I am thinking about making my blog private, keeping all my followers of course. After a while, how much can you say! I really am not as nosy as I was when I first started. Sheesh, I am in a let down mood since returning from Maine, which I loved!

  37. We all seem to be having the same discussion and/or thoughts about why nice bloggers just suddenly disappear. I think if you're at the point where blogging doesn't give you gratification any more, you owe it to the people that have followed and left nice comments over the years to tell them you're quitting. But to just stop and never return - we're only human and think the worst.
I've had no time to search for new blogs this summer but occasionally will check out the favourites on the sidebar of friends.

  39. I've been blogging about Mom's Alzheimer's for going on ten years. One day I plan to disappear from that blog but...then again, maybe not, maybe not. Because after Mom has gone home to be with the Lord, there will still be caregivers I can encourage or just love through my prayers and empathy. So...not going anywhere in the foreseeable future.

  40. It is hard to say goodbye to someone you have come to think as part of your blog family. I just wish they would let us know that they are not coming back instead of leaving us wondering what happened. I have to admit that I've thought about quitting. There are weeks when I have so much going on that I just don't have time to comment at every blog I read and I feel guilty when I don't. I might be able to cobble together a post 3 times a week, but the commenting is so very time consuming. But, I plugging away because I love what I'm doing so far. I use my blog as a sort of journal and I've already used it to find out something I've forgotten. If blogging ever gets to be too much of a burden then I'll say goodbye and ride off into the sunset. I'll continue to take breaks whenever I need to even tho "they" say that's not a good thing to do. But then, I'm not trying to be a mega blogger. I blog purely for my own enjoyment and to keep an online journal of sorts. I'll return another day to check out the new blogs mentioned. Have a nice weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  41. This does bring up some thoughts, Vee. It would be nice of those bloggers to let us know that they've decided to call it quits for whatever reason. Otherwise, we do think the worst. We get connected to these friends even though we've never met.
    Enjoy your weekend!

  42. Great topic, Vee.
Once in a while I come across a comment left a few years ago by a blogger who was a regular back then and I can't help but wonder about them and miss them too. It is a hard thing to have to delete from the blog rolls, but at the same time, I don't like when blog rolls are full of blogs that no longer exist.
It seems like when it comes to blog reading there are the regulars that I read and comment on and then
there are the ones I tiptoe in and out of enjoying what they share, but not feeling the need to participate.
Mia's is one of those. A few of the others are: thequincetree65.blogspot.com, rileymadel.yummily.com and inmyhomeabide.blogspot.com.
I'm always thrilled to find new ones and will be checking out your reader's suggestions. Your friends and favorites blog is a good one and I visit it quite often too.

But I have recently found Kate at Wonderful Life Farm (http://wonderfullifefarm.blogspot.com/) who is a kindred spirit...and of course, Nora Murphy with her blog and e-magazines (http://noramurphycountryhouse.com/).

I hope the above link works. I'm sending it because Vicki at 2bagsfull has a GROW YOUR BLOG PARTY annually. If you scroll down to the list, it starts with those bloggers with less than 50 followers, and so on. Maybe you'll find a new blog friend through this list. Most of the blogs that I follow are popular and prolific. I follow through BLOGLOVIN because I can scan the title and brief intro to a post. If I'm not moved to read a post, I keep going through my list.

Here's hoping for a new blogging friend.
