Big Doin's, Thread Catcher, and a Tour of Ireland

It's going to be a busy week in Blogdom with all manner of festivities planned. Miss Sandy of Quill Cottage is planning something very special for Thursday. Be sure to visit and find out the particulars. A poster on my sidebar serves as a reminder.

La Tea Dah of Gracious Hospitality has a Teacup-a-Story planned for March 23 – March 29. She also has tea-related events planned every week through May! Wow!! I'm hoping to do my teacup story tomorrow.

Both events look like a lot of fun!

Mondays have become a show and tell craft for me in the past few weeks. Today, I have a semi- successful project to share. Through no fault of the blogger who did the tutorial (some folks—me—are geometry challenged), I struggled a bit. It took a friend's gentle reminder that I was creating a box with 90 degree angles in the corners. Ohhhhhh...

It's a thread catcher...ever work on needlework projects while watching television and you find that your chair is covered in thread in no time? This little catcher gives you a place to stuff the threads. I have seen a number of these little projects and they are all sweet. Mine isn't so sweet, but I'll show you anyway.

You can find the tutorial right here at
Leanne's The Stitching Room.

Since it's St. Patty's Day, a tour of Ireland is in order! I found this blog recently and its writer was in the middle of sharing a wonderful travel commentary of her Ireland vacation. Stop by and visit
Pat at Mille Fiori Favoriti. The tour of Ireland begins on March 4 and continues through March 10. Of course, Pat continues to share all things Irish so you can't go wrong to land anywhere in March at Mille Fiori Favoriti.

My number one goal today is to find a McDonald's that still has a St. Patty's Shake on the menu. My second goal is not to bake a soda bread. ;> Happy St. Patrick's Day, everybody!

Edited to Add: Just have to share this Jacquie Lawson Card for St. Patrick's Day. Her work is delightful!

  1. My husband stopped at our local McDonalds last week for a milkshake (for his sore throat, he said.) At the bottom of the shake was something green. He tasted it and decided it was mint shake. So I'm hoping that means St. Paddy's shakes are on the menu there.

I love your thread catcher; such a practical and pretty idea.

  2. Wow! You just made my week even busier! Thank you for the mention and I must take the tour to Ireland, I've always wanted to go there. The tea cup story tour is also another must for me! I need that thread catcher, the floor of my studio looks like some crazed thread clipper got turned loose! (OK I confess, I got tired of trying to coral the the clippings so I just tossed them on the floor!) The shake is out - no offense, but YUCK! (not my taste!) and of course I must tend my very own blog event!

I am sending a little pinch your way if you are not wearing green at this very moment!

An Old Irish Blessing just for you, Vee:

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
    wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
    with joy that long endures.
    May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

    Happy St. Patrick's Day!

  3. Hi Vee!
I was going to ask who Miss Sandy was, but I have found her! :) I think your thread catcher is charming! It is the quirkiness of sewing projects that show they were made with true love! ♥ I just uploaded a larger format (and less fuzzy when printed) of the pattern.. if your prints poorly, just come and get the new one. :)
    Happy St. Patty's Day!
    xoxo~

  5. I like your thread catcher. I have a lot of bits of yarn when I'm making weave-it squares and that would be perfect for it.

Happy St Patrick's Day to you too.

A couple of years ago we went on a walking vacation to Ireland and walked the Ring of Kerry. On the side bar of my walking blog is a link of our vacation.

  6. I just knew I'd find something 'green' over at your blog! I will take your tours today...good suggestions all around.

There's usually threads where I'm sitting...even in the car (not at the driver's seat though)!

  8. Vee...just when I think I have this blogging thing under control I visit your site today! LOL...I am so excited, yes, it doesn't take much these days especially when I awoke to snow this morning.

I love tea cups and stories, I can't wait to visit your friends this week! My husband may get irritated that I'm spending all of my extra time on the laptop but such is life :).

Your thread catcher looks awesome to me, I may have to make one myself!

    Have a wonderful Munday!
