And then there was Nan's

Here's a photo of one of my grandmother's shelves chosen because photos of her younger self with her mother are there in the center. She was 17 years old in those photos. I love the warm wrap about her sleeveless shift. So cute! The photo to the left is of her mother also at 17 somewhere around 1890.

And here's her birthday self seated in her bedroom chair beneath the shelves holding a bottle of birthday posies.

Here she is holding another kind of bottle entirely. See that little grin? She actually only takes a sip or two if in some sort of distress. It gives her just enough of a lift to keep her ticking right along. Should that have been one of her secrets to a long life? ;D

Nan and her great-great-grand. What a heritage we enjoy!

Thanks for visiting today and have a marvelous Wednesday!

  3. Oh I'd love to see close-up photos of those old photos, on the shelf. Even at a distance, I'm sure they are beyond wonderful.

But, I also figure that Nan probably wouldn't approve. -sigh-

I really want to know what her 'tonic' is, though! Why keep that a secret from the masses? Is it even fair, to do so? :-) No, it's not fair!!! And you can quote me, to Nan! :-)

  4. And as to the smoothness of Nan's skin, betcha' she avoided the sun, all her life.

I have, and my skin is soooo much better than gals I attended school with. :-)

  5. The Birthday girl is beautiful! Give Nan a happy birthday hug from me and tell her she doesn't look a day over 60 and that she is an inspiration to me! Is it the little She must give us her beauty secret!

  6. Hmmm, now that you mention it, Nan's skin is remarkable. She has always said that she never uses anything on her face but water. No soap and no makeup except lipstick so that's another of her secrets.

  7. The tonic is apricot brandy, Miss M-N.

  8. I think it must be wonderful to have the shelf of photos to see to remind us where we were and how we looked. Hmmm I best not put mine away where I can't find them.

  9. I love the old pic's of Nan...and the new ones as well!

Apricot brandy? Hmmm...I keep that handy to wrap my fruitcake once a year. Maybe I should think about opening that bottle a little more often!

  10. Wonderful! As someone else said, she was beautiful then and is beautiful now. What a blessing her life is to you all! And I laughed so much to read someone mention "the recipe"! Paul and I loved to watch The Waltons! I think I am going to get out the old photo album of my grandmother Marguerite and her twin sister Madeline. They were born in 1904 in rural Ohio and the pictures of them as little girls are so heartwarming. The blessings of family are so strong and everlasting.

  12. Amazing to think of having a great-great grandchild! My mother might be lucky enough to live that long as her oldest great grandchild is now in his teens.

Your Nan is beautiful! I agree a "nip" now and then is the secret to a long and happy life! :D

Thanks for sharing her with us, Vee! Nan is an inspiration.

  14. Absolutely terrific. Apricot brandy...yeah!! My grandmother used to keep one of those really tall bottles of Galliano in the house. She claimed she used it to bake Galliano cakes and the rest would "evaporate". HA HA.

Thanks for letting us visit with Nan.
