A Haven for Vee

The Grands in Autumn

"Cumpkins, cumpkins, cumpkins!" was the cry as my daughter-in-law set my grandson down at the pumpkin patch. Then "Twenty, twenty, twenty!" as he ran around trying to comprehend the vast numbers of them. Since he can count to 20, repeating that number over and over became his best attempt to count them all. At some point, he decided that pumpkins were edible in their natural state and was quite disappointed to discover otherwise; at least, for little boys.

You'd think that my son could handle the yardwork. No, he has the wee one doing it! Hmmmm, wonder if I can borrow that child for a day.

Tomorrow begins another week caring for my grandmother. My parents are returning to Canada to enjoy Thanksgiving there with family and friends. I had no idea that we would be called upon in October so find myself looking for God in the interruption. Anyway, if posts are sporadic or absent altogether, you'll know what happened to me.

Catch you as I can...

  1. What a cute little grandson you have! I think putting them to work early is an excellent idea! I love his little rake.
Have a good time with your grandmother - maybe the opportunity for more/different autumn leaf photos? I have a yen to trace some leaves and applique them to something. I am in a random mood, as you can see! A collage may be a great idea, with wool, paint and real leaves, on a canvas.... I am thinking aloud here.

  3. How darling! I love that you included the pronunciation and the concept of counting! My trip to the pumpkin farm was a bust yesterday as we had a rain storm. Maybe I will get to see my little one this weekend and can take him along.

Have a sweet time with Nan and we will see you when you return.

  5. Such sweet little boys. The delight at the pumpkin farm tickles me. What a joy that must have been. And isn't it nice how even tiny children want to help and be part of the family...even when it means raking leaves.

  6. Aren't they just so precious? And it looks like he actually knows how to rake leaves into a pile...and that's quite a skill.
Enjoy your time back at Nan's...while your folks celebrate Thanksgiving on Canandian time!

  7. The grandkids are sooooo cute! Can I borrow them? My children are not cooperating in this regard. I'm getting a little teary remembering all our trips to the pumpkin patch.

Have a great time with Nan. Do I dare ask if your siblings help out or take turns? The reason I ask this is we have total responsibility of the Other Mother (MIL). The brother claims how much he loves his mom but I can count on one hand the times he's been here or made plans with her in the last 14 years!!!

  11. Dear One, 'tis all so simple.

This kind of "surprise" will keep right on happening, as long as you LET it.

  12. Hey! Am I the only one, who didn't wish you a good or a wonderful or a sweet or an enjoyable or a great or {another} enjoyable time next week with your Grandmother?

Am I the only one who read your entry?

    Sometimes I really wonder......

Many times I know... People don't read carefully in Blog Land. We often skim. And with skimming, one misses the "message behind the words."

  13. Hi Vee!

I'm back from Key West, Florida! Thanks so much for your nice comments while I was away celebrating my anniversary! I appreciate your friendship so much!

Your grands are adorable! I love the curly blond mop on this little one. I get excited over pumpkins too -- there is something about them that make a person so happy!

I've read all I missed here, beginning with the wonderful post about Larsson -- what a charming artist, and how amazing your home looks being so similar to Swedish design.... and now you have a Swedish husband!

Hope you enjoy this extra time with your grandmother -- I'm sure your parent's will appreciate a chance to celebrate the Canadain Thanksgiving!

    Hugs, Pat
