His Eye is On the Sparrow

His Eye is on the Sparrow never comes to mind without my remembering Ethel Waters singing that great old song at Billy Graham crusades. How I loved to hear her sing! I was just a kid then, too, but I recognized the love and tenderness in that voice. The last time I tried to find a video or clip of Ethel's singing, it was not available. Recently, I found this from YouTube. Though it's not a Billy Graham clip, it's wonderful to hear this voice again singing one of my favorite hymns. In light of the loss of one of my "other mothers" in my real life this week and the losses that have even reached Blogdom, it's a sweet, sweet reminder. His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me...

  2. A very sweet post, Vee.

I'd have sent this {below} backchannel, but don't know what's going on with your email addy. ????

Well Hon, you are the only one who commented on my In the tempest post. {And we all know we get Viewers, from site counter} But you are the only one, to leave a comment. Which is interesting, in itself. But I "fell down" on my stated blogging purpose. I did. I did.

Becky has received over 360 comments/messages. But the My Journey lady has only received 3. And 2 of those, are from me. -sigh-

I know. I know. I can read your mind. ,-) But you don't have to remind me. From the sound of me, I'm slipping into "the old ways." {Meaning, I'm Tsk, Tsk, Tsk-ing} And I wasn't going to do so.

    I can not do so.

    I will not do so.

    ^_^

    Do I sound convincing? ,-)

  5. I remember this song well - it was one of my grandmother's favorite songs.
The reason I am happyone is because I know He watches over me! :-)
Sorry to hear someone close to you died.

  6. Hi Vee

    I'm sorry for your loss.
It does feel like the old saying that "deaths come in threes" rings true sometimes.

That was a very sweet film clip. The old movies were the best.

  7. Thank you, Vee, such a sweet video. I dearly love this old song. I have a recording of Mahalia Jackson singing it that I also treasure. Such a comfort! I'll have to look for that flag - so perfect!

I'm also reminded of one of my grandmother's favorite songs of faith:
    "Whispering hope!
    Oh, how welcome thy voice,
    Making my heart,
    In its sorrow, rejoice."

So sorry for your loss. ((Hugs))

  9. My mom was sitting here next to my desk and singing along. That was wonderful. I'm very sorry to hear about your "other mother". They are so precious in our lives.

The video itself is precious, although I know there are those politically correct people who would pick apart the image. I LOVE IT.

  10. We often think of Ethel Waters music and how it had a place in our homes growing up! This song blessed our hearts as we were "on the road" this Sunday morning! (I'm a few days behind!) Thanks!
