This was the night I had reserved for seeing the lights. It also happened to be the night of the church concert. Fine. We'd see lights after attending the concert.
John driving...Mother in front passenger seat...I am backseat driving. I know, you'd think it was a pattern.
Me: John, you're going to have to drive VERY slowly and stop just when I say stop or else I'm never going to get this picture.
John: I'll do anything you want.
Me: STOP!
He didn't stop. He slowed down some, but no stop.
Mother: Pull into this yard and turn around there.
Me: Don't pull a u-turn in the road.
John: I'll do anything you want.
He didn't exactly pull a u-turn, but it was close. A u-turn in a parking lot is not the same as a u-turn in the highway.
Just as I was setting up my shot, we got to see the really pretty lights. Blue lights. Bright, bright blue lights. Blue lights that rotate hypnotically.
John: Hello, Officer.
Officer: Hello, Sir. I was really concerned about your erratic driving and just wanted to make sure that everything was okay.
Erratic Driving? Well what do you think?
This is what I think. I think we won't be doing drivebys for a very long while.
Oh, this is what I was trying to capture. I had to do weird things to the photo in order for you to see it; although, I did decorate it for Christmas.
May these days leading up to Christmas go much better for you!
Visit Mary at Little Red House for more mosaics.
LOL! I can just imagine being in that car. When I first starting reading your post I thought you might have been in an accident. Happily, it was just light gawking :)
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Vee!
An exciting evening! Sounds like my parents when they'd go out bird watching! Sorry for the excitement, but glad that you didn't get hit by a car or anything more serious.
ReplyDeleteLaTeaDah
Been there...Done that! As they say. :)
ReplyDeleteThat will be a Christmas memories for years to come and more then likely brought back up every year. Still a nice night shot. Have a wonderful Christmas.
ReplyDeleteLove to go light-seeing! We like to go to Downey to the neighborhood where the Carpenters grew up...nice, big houses and then go the the oldest Mc Donalds {still has the golden arches!}...a night of nostalgia! ;}
ReplyDeletem ^..^
I chuckled as I read it and then read it aloud to my beloved. . .oh some things are the same no matter where you live.
ReplyDeleteLOL... This is so funny! I wanted to tell you how much I enjoy blogging with you. You are a joyto know in this blog world of ours. I'm so sorry for all of the ruff times you have been going through. I keep you and your family in my prayers. I wish you, John, your mother, and all of the rest of your family every blessing possible this Christmas and New Year ♥
ReplyDeleteVee, this made me chuckle! My husband always says the same thing to me as I often drag him around on my blog missions...lol! We went into Manhattan tonight to see the tree at Rockefeller Center ..it's really pretty this year! Then we got off the subway to see the windows of Macy's ..so cute! I'll be a busy blogger for the next few days..lol!
ReplyDeleteha ha! all for a lovely blue photo!
ReplyDeletei'm glad john didn't have to go down
to the station for us!
merry Christmas,
lea
Well, at least your Mosaic has the richest blacks and an outstanding composition! Oh, and the framing is super! A night to remember! Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteHi Vee,
ReplyDeleteYou are so cute! I can see the scene perfectly. I am just returning from a few days with my mom. She wants to stay put this Christmas because she has to have cataract surgery in two weeks. So for now, she is happy to be home. We wanted to bring her Christmas in between the snowflakes. I have to find those traveling days in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont that are good ones. I was lucky this weekend. My mom said it was freezing fog tonight. Glad I am home, but my daughter traveled on to Montreal.
Looks like you are having a charming Christmas. I love looking at Christmas lights. Love your header!
Have a wonderful evening.
Karen
Through the car window...we have traveled many times over the mountains from the Pacific Ocean to the prairies and back or vice versa and most of my photos were through the car window. Once a few years ago, my husband asked if I would like him to pull over so I could take a few pictures of the mountains...unbelievable but true... He even offered to take a picture of me and he did - from the neck up because he wanted to get the mountains and all that sky above them in the picture! Merry Christmas to you and thanks for the good chuckle tonight!
ReplyDeleteOh, that is very funny! But I don't think it was blue lights you were wanting to see. A most memorable light-seeking outing....for sure!
ReplyDeleteHa ha! Oh dear. :) I can sympathize. I'm always wanting a photo of something and drivers I'm riding with never quite seem to understand what I'm trying to do.
ReplyDeleteWell that last photo is really fantastic!
Never a dull moment with you guys! I wanna come and play too.
ReplyDeleteReminds me of the night we were up in the mountains spotting deer in the middle of NOWHERE...
We were all yelling at the driver, Warren's Uncle that there had been deer in "that field", the one we had just past. So, he began to back up.
Flashing lights and a stern warning later we were all laughing hysterically. Who would have thought there would be a policeman in the middle of nowhere!
Oh, Vee! Too funny!!!! It is fun to drive around and look at all the wonderful lights.
ReplyDeletehaahhhhaaa...you just crack me up, Vee. I love your sense of humor. Not sure if your hubby loves it or not...haaahhhhhaaa...
ReplyDeleteMerriest Christmas.
I'm practically rolling on the floor Vee! That sounds like something Wes & I would do... Wes' reply is always "Yes dear" in a patronizing tone. I love the lights too but not at 50 mph.
ReplyDeleteLoved catching up on your recent posts, especially He's Not a Baby Anymore.
Great header pic of your guy working on the tree! Merry Christmas & many many blessings to you both!! Sherry
Sounds like a scene from Christmas Vacation!!!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas Vee to all!
Leann
So funny!! AND somewhat familiar sounding - thankfully we have not experience those beautiful blue lights!!
ReplyDeleteLOL Vee!! That sounds like the same kind of conversation that happens in our car, when I want to stop at an antique mall. I say, "there's one!" and he drives by at 65 MPH and asks, "did you want to stop there?" I say "yes". He says (a few miles now have gone by) "so do you want me to turn around?"...I say, "no, but stop at the next one"
ReplyDeleteand it goes like that again.
If I don't have a chance to tell you, I am wishing you and your family a beautiful Christmas.
xo

Oh Vee...you have given me a good chuckle!
ReplyDeleteWishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas! ♥
Oh I am laughing...sounds too much like us...me saying, turn, turn, not right not left, back up, down there...oh I am rolling down the window...slow down...okay I got it...and the flash just doesn't light up enough for a picture...now I am going to go see if mine all look like this...we did it last night!!!
ReplyDeleteToo funny!!!
Merry Christmas!!!!
Funny story! I love the picture!
ReplyDeleteWishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas!
We LOVE to drive out and about, usually on Christmas night, to look at all of the sparkling beauty. With my oldest in basketball, and many of the games being during weeknights this year, we are able to view them early this year :)
ReplyDeleteI "hear you," on the command to "Stop now!" business. For picture taking. Men seem to have a difficult time with that.
ReplyDeleteMmmmm, it also comes into play, when I wait till we are at a full stop, to grab a sip from my water bottle. IF I do not wait exactly, I get a dribble of water down my chin.
Not earth shaking I know. But... why can't he stop and stay stopped, as it were? -sigh- -grinnnnnn-
Taking night pics is very, very tricky. I'd just like to have one of the family [who can drive easily at night, unlike us] drive me around to LOOK.
Maybe this year..........
Oh and since today is Yule Eve, I'm wishing everyone...
Gentle Yule hugs...
LOL...too funny!
ReplyDeleteHave a blessed Christmas Vee
Niki
HAHA! This is great, Margo! Now if John had done exactly as you said, we wouldn't be seeing swirling blue lights in our rear-view mirror, RIGHT????
ReplyDeleteToo cute! Have a fun Christmasy week!
Too funny... and so real!
ReplyDeleteVickie, Hon, you are doing too much. You're visiting Vee not Margo. Ha! Thanks for the chuckle and don't you dare come back here and change it!!
ReplyDeleteHey, Vee - must be pretty TIRED!!! haha! I had just visited Margo - must have fallen asleep. Yep I AM tired - with all the family home and cooking and working, and trying to finish up the shopping!
ReplyDeleteI amuse myself this way sometimes just for fun!

There you go again! Hope you get some quality rest soon! ♥
ReplyDeleteHa Ha...sounds like a page out of our book! Too funny. Ok, back to work now...thanks for the chuckle. ~Cheryl
ReplyDeleteThat is so funny!! I can just picture the three of you. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou will have to park the car and do a walk by next time!
Vee,
ReplyDeleteThat is too funny! Glad you got to see some pretty lights even if they were blue!
When I came to check out your blue lights, this wasn't at all what I was expecting. You told the story wonderfully and I had to laugh out loud while reading it. Hopefully there were no tickets involved.
ReplyDeleteI think you have just made a new Christmas memory that will be bringing smiles for years to come :).
Thanks for the chuckle, Vee! Merry Christmas!!
ReplyDeleteROFL!!! I had to read this to hubby! Great story!
ReplyDeleteUh oh, do we need to bail him out of jail?
ReplyDeleteDid you check to make sure that was coffee in the thermos.
Happy days!
Sharon Lovejoy Writes from Sunflower House and a Little Green Island
Incredible picture with amazing lighting on the clouds, grass, etc. and the magnificent house at the center. That should win an award I'd say!
ReplyDeleteI so relate to the passenger seat orders for our dear men! Haha!
Great post and many blessings to you in these days as well!
This really is too good for words...but I would like to hear John's version of this story! hahaha! Merry Christmas dear one! ♥
ReplyDeleteSounds like a fun night riding around looking at all the beautiful Christmas lights. Great post and Have a Merry Christmas!
ReplyDeleteLol! Looks like my pictures....at least you didn't get a ticket.
ReplyDeletehehe... love the dialog in this story! A most clever mosaic too! We saw some pretty blue lights Friday night. Heading home from my husbands Christmas party and a little past midnight, we noticed flashing lights behind us. John pulled over as did the police car. Wondering what we did wrong, we waited for an officer to come to the drivers window. He completely startled me by coming up to my passenger window!
ReplyDeleteJohn asked him what he did wrong and the officer told him he would find out when he got his license, registration and insurance cards out.
Oh, wow... our registration had just expired! How did we let that slip by us!!!
He gave us a warning and threatened to have our car towed, but we managed to arrive home safely and headed to the DMV first thing the next morning.
We saw three other cars pulled over that night on the short drive home. Guess it is a busy time for police officers!
Wonderful lights in the sky. Nice shots.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like our drive the other night to see the Christmas lights in our neighborhood!
ReplyDeleteVee, I hope that you and your beautiful family have a very Merry Christmas and a brilliant 2011! I also hope that you enjoy all the happiness and joy that this blessed season brings.
Best wishes always,
Natasha.

Funny, but hope no tickets were issued.
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas to you and yours.
