Hump Day, Hump Jumper, Etc.

Thank you so much for all of your suggestions. I am going to take you up on a few, but will wait to tell you all about it until the cable guys have arrived and the deed is done. By Friday, it should all be accomplished.

Hump jumper: Ever heard of it? Me neither until my daughter, a brand new sewer, suggested that I could use one. She's right! I want *this* very much. My daughter described finding a sweet little old lady in her 50s on You Tube who taught her all about it. See who she thinks is "a little old lady." Now I find this video fascinating. My favorite info about the hump jumper starts at 3:46.

Edited to Add: April 2, 2012
The gal, Sandy is her name, who invented the hump-jumper recently left a comment for me and I wanted to link to her site where she shares her unique and wonderful sewing notions inventions: The Sewing Notions that Solve Such Frustrating Problems. I do not actually own a "hump-jumper." I have a "jean-a-majig." Two different tools that do the same thing.

Onward...

Here's that finished purse of many colors. I'm actually using it and I can show you why...

That's my former purse behind...large and heavy and it's literally giving me a pain in the neck. The confetti job there is much smaller and lighter. Though I did not use *this pattern,* it is the one that got me started on crocheting a purse of my own.  Believe me, if I had the talent to figure out that pattern, it's done in UK terms, I would have it instead.

And a fantastic leap to last night's supper just because I want to show the picture, which makes me hungry for some reason.

If you've never tried *Pioneer Woman's Pot Roast recipe,* may I suggest that you do and soon?! Why do I do this to myself? Her photos are incredible!

Should I get my way around here today, I'll be off to see War Horse. Have you seen it? Speaking of which, what was the last movie you went to see? We went to see The King's Speech way last January. (I am not counting Winnie the Pooh of last summer. Ha!)

There! We've certainly jumped a lot of humps today. A great Wednesday to you!

  1. Love your finished purse!

The last movie I went to see was The Help. I do want to see War Horse.

    Happy day!

  2. Hooray! You are using your new purse, already! No need to wait till summer, or whatever you said. -giggles-

I have not used a heavy purse in about 35 years. :-) In fact, when I was younger, I used to go out with only my wallet and keys.

Can't remember the last film I went to in a theater!!!! ,-) Got tickets for Christmas and we now plan on going to the new Sandy Bullock, Tom Hanks film...."Awfully Close And Terribly Loud" or whatever the title is.

Not in full distribution yet, I guess. We see tv adds all the time over here, but my Mass. friend doesn't.

Mmmmmm, I have a *Grumpy* post today. Hope you have time to pop over and read it. :-)

And you already did, so thank you!

  3. I think the last movie we went to see was the Kings Speech too. We rarely go to see a movie and are usually content to wait until we can see them at home. With all the movie rental shops closing...we might have to go see them a little more often.
We bought The Help for watching on New Years Eve.

Again....you are so crafty. I always picture you sitting at your window crocheting up a storm.

Speaking of storm...we have one. It is now blowing from the northeast and drifitng.

  4. I went to see who the 'sweet little old lady' was and what was so interesting. Oh my! That's all I'll say about that. Well, other than I'd want the hump jumper if I ever go back to sewing. Denim was one thing I broke dozens of needles on way back when.
Okay, I can't leave it alone...how old is your daughter? :D

The last movie I saw was The Help. It was an excellent movie. War Horse sounds good, too!

Your purse looks cute! I'm in awe of your creativity.

    Have a fabulous day!

  5. I love your new purse! It's so pretty. I also forgot to mention in a previous post that I liked your mug cozy you made as well. I can't remember the last movie I saw in a theatre. It's been a while! I would love to see War Horse and probably will when it's released on DVD. It's mild here right now but going to dip down again later on. Crazy weather!

  6. I love that purse! I'd use it too. :)

The pot roast sounds good. I'm going to have to check it out.

We went to see The Girl with The Dragon Tattoo last week.
It's waaaaay too gritty for you Vee. Stick with Warhorse. :)

  7. Very cute purse Vee...you did a great job! That Hump Jumper looks like something a sewer would definitely need. Me...not a sewer except for fixing things on occasion.

The last movie I saw at a Theater...I. do. not. remember! But, we did rent The Help from Red-box about a week or so ago. I was going to take baby girl to see We Bought A Zoo yesterday, but the weather turned too scary for me to want to drive in. So we stayed home and watched movies we owned already. Good bonding day!

  8. What an informative video and your purse is so cute!
I think The Help was the last movie we saw. My memory is so bad!

  9. We saw Contagion in the theater last summer. Wasn't worth the ticket price.
Since my grandfather was a WWI calvary soldier and rode in France and German battlefields, I do want to see War Horse too.

  10. The last movie we went to the theater to see was the final Harry Potter movie. I like your new bag. I've been weighing bags before I buy them these days. When I end up carrying my camera in the purse it really weighs me down so I don't want to start with a heavy bag.
I'll have to try that pot roast recipe. Have a great Wednesday!

  11. Oh I was laughing to hard on the "old woman" who was 50, that I couldn't hardly read the rest.

Love the purse...last movie "We Bought A Zoo" and "Dolphin's Tale"...can you tell I go with a now 6 year old...and I have heard "War Horse" is wonderful...take tissues.

Will have to do the pot roast.

  12. Cute purse, Vee. I'm scratching my head trying to think of the last movie we went to. We usually wait until we can watch them at home. But there are a few I really want to see soon, like War Horse and Iron Lady.

Nope, still can't think of the last movie - maybe Sherlock Holmes in December 2010?

The good smells emanating from the Home Ec class yesterday came from: Block A - Focaccia Bread (just making the dough)

Block B was Bible so no good smells

Block C - Vegetarian Buffet, so 6 dishes including Tofu Burritos (not a hit), Black Bean Burritos (very good), Cumin Chickpea Dip (yummy), Pasta Vegetable Stew (yukky), Vegetarian Pizza (how can pizza be bad), and Two-Bean Bulgur Chili (not bad).

Block D - Stir fry (a little chicken breast, lots of veggies) with white rice. Edibleness varied according to the kitchens. Some of those grade 9 students can really cook, others not so much.

And today - SNOW DAY so everyone is hunkered down. I'm wondering what to do with such a day myself. I keep wandering to the window to watch the snow fall.

  13. The last movie I saw in the theater was "Hugo". A very different movie, thoughtful, but I loved it. I have heard that Warhorse starts out slow but then is really good. Have fun!

  14. Georgia wants to see War Horse so I imagine we'll be going to see it soon.

Last movie was The Muppets. LOL
It was much cuter than I imagined it would be.

  15. L*O*V*E! the purse, adorable!

Hmmm, going to have to follow that link and find out exactly what it is your heart now desires.

I don't like the theater movie watching experience, I have the attention span of a gnat and I can't seem to stay focused, if I can't make it through a 30 minute TV show then you know I am hopelessly restless with a whole long movie production. I usually wait til they are out on DVD so I can pause as many times as I want to in order to allow myself literal wiggle room!

    Have a great time!

  16. I have the worst time taking time to sit at a movie theatre...Courageous was the last movie I went to see.

  17. I'm not a big movie goer either but as a matter of fact, hubby and I met friends last night to celebrate their shared birthday. We saw War Horse. Wonderful movie. Very epic and dramatic... don't forget your tissues.

Love the confetti purse. These dreary days just need that burst of color!

    Blessings, Debbie

  18. I don't know which to say "WOW!" to first...

Your purse is wonderful! Our local fun store, Quilted Ceiling, has patterns for boiled wool purses that have either been knitted or crocheted. Since I do neither, I am so impressed by knitted and crocheted patterns that it (almost) makes me want to learn both. I think you'll be making lots of purses - how neat!

The hump jumper is fantastic! Everyone who sews needs one. What a great find. Please tell your daughter thank-you for sharing it.

Oh, and at my age, I don't even call the little blue-haired ladies old any longer. I think most of us still chuckle when we think back on being 10 and thinking 30 years old was ancient. Who knows, if I didn't color my hair - well, just how gray (blue) would it be?!! Right now, I'm hoping to be as vibrant as Betty White is at her current age (90)! Anyway, I adore your daughter's perspective and remember (a long ago memory) thinking just as she does. Oh my, that was several decades ago.

  19. I love the new purse..looks just perfect. I am kind of a movie goer over here.. : ) We did see War Horse and it was REALLY good. ENJOY!

  21. I think I'm going to look up both that purse "recipe" and the stew as well! Love all the color!

Haven't been to a theatre in a long timebut War Horse is one we hope to see on the big screen.

I meant to comment on your TV--we recently got a flat screen and plannd to hang it on the wall but have it set on a small cabinet about table height. I am so glad we did not hang it on the wall, for one, we did not want to pay to get the cords put in the wall and they would have looked junky otherwise. Also, it is JUST the right height. I think if it were on the wall a tad higher I'd get a neck ache! So consider that! We can keep the dvd player, etc inside the cabinet, We do have to open it to use that but its a small cabinet so not a problem,

  22. You did a nice job on your new purse! It is nice with so many colors.
The last time we went to the movies we saw was Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.

  23. Hi Vee!

I am in love with your purse! I love the idea of a purse of many colors! My purse is awkward, heavy, and very annoying - I guess I will have to find a good crochet pattern for a new purse . . . or did you post the pattern? I probably missed your purse post!

I love the hump jumper! I have never seen anything like it - but I am going to go buy one ASAP!

I haven't seen a movie since, I don't know when! My daughter gave my husband and I "dinner and a movie" tickets for Christmas, and War Horse sounds like a great movie to use them with!

I love Pioneer Woman - that's all I have to say - besides - I love pot roast too!

    Hugs,
    Barb

  24. I found this jean-seam hump-er years ago. As a short gal, I found this tool great for re-hemming jeans and also craft projects, like canvas weight totes with thick seams.
I think I want the seat cushion - thanks for the link, Vee!

  25. I am making Pioneer Woman's cinnamon rolls right now. Waiting on the dough to rise. My first attempt at cinnamon rolls. I love her cookbook.

  26. The King's Speeach was great, wasn't it? I saw 'The Heist' yesterday and 'Courage' last week.
I do so love a good movie. GOOD ones are hard to find, though! I have heard good things about 'Warhorse.'

    ReplyDelete
  27. I really want to see this movie. Let us all know how it was. It has been years since i went to the theatre.

  28. Vee
Love your purse-it will match everything you wear with all the colors you used.
I don't go to the movies anymore-too far away. But the ones you mentioned are ones I've wanted to see.
I'm getting hungry and your carrots & onions look so good. DH made homemade noodles and roast tonight. But it's taking a little longer to cook than he had anticipated!

  29. Dear Vee,
Don't even try to compete with PW's photo's, I'm convinced it can't be done. The pot roast however, we all have a chance there :)
Love the purse, I made one a year or two back, I even went so far as to line it! I used it for a while, I really need a suitcase on wheels ;)
I love your cozy home with the snowflakes falling.

  30. Hey Vee...
Take another gander at the day the LOLcats died post. I finally figured out a simple explanation.

You with your "thanks for not using text or images without permission" statement will be interested in learning what was being tried.
    Dang government overstepping, as usual!

  31. I learned something new today - hump jumper! Who knew? I will have to watch that video more closely - when we are not watching a movie!

  32. The purse is adorable! (And it's not even August! ~smile~)

Last movie we went to see? We took our 7-year-old granddaughter Maddie to see "Puss in Boots" this past fall for her "special day."

Please let us know what you think of "War Horse"!

(And I am afraid to go to the youtube video and see what a "little old lady" looks like...but I'll probably go anyway.)

  33. Cute purse, Vee! I fixed my picture link - thanks for being my first visitor and follower!

I do like that hump jumper - I could use that - I have to hem Hayley's jeans all the time! I bought the PW cookbook awhile back and Hayley cooks out of there for her boyfriend all the time - she loves it!

What did you think of WAR HORSE? Did you get to go see it? We did, it was good, but not really what I expected. We did like the King's Speech. I usually like Colin Firth. I recently saw a movie advertised (an older one on TV) where he played a homosexual. I didn't wanna watch that one.

Anyway, thanks again - enjoy your new TV - wherever it may be!

  34. Why did you let me misspell the word "sketch" twice? ;)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I've never used a hump jumper, and so far I've survived without it. I just slow down the machine and coax it through those lumpy places.

And I think the Kings Speech was the last movie we saw too! I'd like to see the War Horse, but I don't know if DH wants to see it too. Would have liked to see the Help, but he nixed that one. Oh well. Hollywood doesn't make much off money of us, do they?!

I didn't even want it, and Blogger still installed it, in my blog comments. And now, many of my Dear Readers can't comment in my blog.

If you don't know what I'm talking about, please read at the top of my Sidebar. And click on the link, I give there.

  40. Hello, thank you for linking to my handbag pattern! I love the bag that you made too :-) You have inspired me to write out the pattern in US terms, so that it is easier for people not in the UK to follow without having to translate everything. I'll try to get it posted to the blog in the next couple of days. Deb xxxx

  41. The bag is very pretty! I'm carrying around a heavy bag, too, and should remedy that.

The last movie I saw in the movie house? I can't remember! It kills me to pay $12 for a matinee movie. I would like to see the new Tom hanks movie, however, "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close"

  42. Hi again, I just wanted to let you know I've translated the pattern into US terms now - it's here http://ablade-ofgrass.blogspot.com/2012/01/free-crochet-pattern-pipistrelle.html Thanks, Deb xxx
