Friday Morning

I should be run out of Blogdom on a rail for what I'm about to pass off as blog fodder. Really. It's pitiful. I can almost hear the whoosh as you run back out the door.

There has been a substantial shift here in the morning. Perhaps newspapers across the land would like to sit up and pay attention. John, weary of the bias in our local paper and lousy reporting or rehashing of subjects from the mainstream news agencies gave up his morning paper. We're saving a fortune—$38 a month. Now John reads his Kindle Fire (a Christmas gift) and stays perfectly up to date.

Here's a fun little experiment to try...a shift of another sort...move your hubby's favorite chair to a new corner. Replace it with an inferior chair and see if he is more drawn to the chair or to the spot where it used to be. Want to make a guess as to what I discovered? [The answer is *here.*]

Here's a photo just because I can as Auntie sez. Auntie doesn't know this yet, but I have been having a lot of fun with something she taught her readers awhile ago.

If you would like to check that out, visit My Friends and Favorites in my sidebar where I employed her methods of creating my own background. The fun thing about creating one's own backgrounds is that there are no limits to color and design. Also, the background shows up on my iPad whereas the others only show up in bits here and there. If you'd like to read Auntie's Tutorial, you'll find it *here.*

Thanks to all who've been following along with my little story. I hope to have another portion up today.

A lovely day to you!

  2. Good Morning!

Let's see did John choose his favorite spot over the chair?!

Speaking of backgrounds I like the new one here. I'd love to have it in wallpaper for our guest room. Scratches and all!

    Enjoy your weekend!

  3. I would guess the chair! Men tend to have a favorite chair/piece of furniture. But, perhaps John liked his spot! When will you tell?

  4. Happy Friday to you! I'll choose a favorite chair. I know we have our favorites at my house. Looking forward to the next part of your story.

  5. I think the spot is where he will land! What story are we following? What have I missed? Sweet hugs!

  6. I usually guess wrong...but I'll try anyway and say that John chose his favorite chair because it "fits" him.

I love your "just because" photo...and how the tree in the apothecary jar is highlighted in the sun's beams. Lovely.

And your John must be a modern man! I cannot for a minute imagine Ron giving up his newspaper for a device.

  9. Chair moving... My guess... He goes to the chair.

Another guess... You hurt your back, moving furniture! Grrrrrr....

LOVE your sun-on-wall-through-glass "Because I Can" pic! Love it! Must tell Sandra, who thought up the saying "Because I Can" pics... to come over and see it. :-)

  10. Oh I have to go catch up on your story...I was sidetracked. As for the paper..oh know that well, my husband sold for a very large paper, that is the job he lost! Funny on the chair...aren't men creators of habit?

Yes a long name...so it will be fun to hear how it comes out of a two year old's mouth...LOL What I chose was my daughter-in-law's name for her grandmother so I felt it was an honor for her to suggest it to me...I loved her grandmother

  11. I stopped reading news long ago. (I do read a magazine about news, but it's not anything like local or internet news.) I subscribe to the Good News network online which has stories about good things people have done, or which have happened. I don't want to be so dragged down by hearing every bad thing (or ridiculous thing) that is reported. OK. Just call me Ostrich.

  13. I'm headed over to check out the tutorial......gotta see if I can do it.

I Pad's, Kindle's, Android phone....I love them all. I agree about the biased news reporting in some newspapers. I do as John does.
    Happy weekend!

  14. Ack! I missed the first of your story. Where is it on your sidebar?? I don't want to miss any of it. Chair switching. Hmmm. I'm guessing he chose the favourite chair. Our local paper has a great offer on right now. If we subscribe, or in our case renew our subscription, for 3 years at about $20. a month we get a free Tablet (Samsung). I'm getting mine next weekend! We also have access to all the newspapers in NB on line with the offer. The only problem is that the newspapers are all owned by the Irving group and the news is much the same in each one. Go figure!! I hope it's worth it. ;) Now I'm going to visit Auntie and see what she sezzz about wallpaper. Pam

  15. Am I still able to learn? I sure hope so because creating my own background sounds like fun.

I'm thinking he's drawn to the comfort of his chair. Is it the spot where his chair was or where it is now? I'm thinking you've probably already moved his chair back to the spot it held before.

    1. Absolutely not! =D As you can see, his burgundy colored chair is taller and, when it sits where it did before, it covers up too much of the painting Vickie did for me. That's just not acceptable. And I can't move the painting because these are wood walls and can't be patched up so well.

  16. I'm on the edge of my seat (no pun intended) waiting to find out which chair John went to. ~ Abby

  17. I didn't realize that you had begun! I clicked over there and read it all - keep the story coming!
I'm guessing John chose the spot, not the chair. When I switch furniture around (which I'd like to do more of but back won't allow and husband isn't fond of the idea), I find myself gravitating to the best light rather than a favourite chair.
It took me awhile to get used to Tim reading at the breakfast table using his Blackberry. Now I never know if he's reading work emails (of which he gets about 300 per day so he's always trying to catch up) or the news. Tricky fellow.

  18. I vote for the chair.
I'm Looking forward to reading you story this weekend.

  19. I've got to go with chair on this one unless the favorite spot was at the table then I'd go with spot but seeings how you said comfy chair that probably wouldn't be at the table so I'm back to comfy chair and not spot. Hope you followed that. Happy Friday to you!

  20. I am off to read Auntie's instructions. One can have too many views of red telephone boxes. And I am off to catch up on the story too - I forgot. I told you I would. I need a prod, my dear.

  21. I gave up my "print" copy of the local newspapers years ago and read it online for free, it was $25/month, but that went towards something more useful to me! I would think the spot would be important, cause of lighting, or the view out the window? I am hopeless when it comes to doing major redesign blog work. Mostly I am so afraid I will lose everything, and honestly I don't think I would start over at this point. xo

  22. We have been thinking about canceling our subscription to our paper too, and for the exact same reasons. Just found your story and absolutely loved it, I am so looking forward to reading more chapters! Great Job!!

  23. I would hate to give up my morning paper although I usually don't get it read until the afternoon.

    Your background is beautiful!

  24. On line news is the only way to go and I still read my favorite comics ( Dinette Set, Pearls before Swine, Luann) on line too. Frankly hate newsprint; finger prints from the ink gets everywhere!

  25. I move furniture around all the time and Ken just sits wherever I put his chair! : )
Please, where do I read your story - can't find it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. yes I am wondering where is the story? I like the way your header and blog looks....I think my husband would sit in the same spot no matter what I put there for him to sit on...LOL creatures of habit live here...

I'm voting on the chair, but if John's anything like my husband , he'll be wanting it moved back to it's old familiar place!
We no longer buy the paper. We get newsfrom our favorite conservative TV news and the internet.
I missed your story too. I didn't see the sidebar for it either. Am I blind? I was looking forward to reading it!

  28. I went to Auntie to check out the tutorial and almost forgot to comment here!

I like to see John taking a stand against the biased reporting - Go John!

I am guessing he prefers the chair...

    Off to read your story.

    Thanks for the tutorial!

  29. I wonder if I could ever get Elmer to give up his paper. I sooner read blogs...but he likes the paper (the crumply kind...not on his e-reader). I'm enjoying the saga of Carrie and her sister, Mellie. :)

  30. Vee,
We only get the Sunday paper. We dislike the bias too. Our paper openly endorsed Obama. 'Nuff said.
If I ever moved Mister's recliner.....banish the thought!
He must have THE recliner and its view of THE TV.

  33. I am intrigued by the top painting to left of your bookcase.....is it an oil? I have painted one like this and it is in my living room. I'll have to take a pic and send it on my next visit home!

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Yes, it is oil. My daughter painted it. Maybe you both used a calendar pic. =D She used to do that when she first started painting. Now she either paints en plein air or takes multiple photographs.

  34. Oh, I know what you mean about newspapers. When Hubby reads the paper & tells about something he's reading, I say, "I read that on the internet."

  36. Changing the position of a chair or any piece of furniture is worth the risk. It might just be the new look a particular room needs. I almost switched around the couch and the loveseat in our family room yesterday...maybe I will one of these days. I'm sure John headed for his favourite chair! It doesn't make any sense to buy papers in this day and age unless you really like reading all the ads. We've been reading newspapers online for years now and making fewer trips to the recycling depot to recycle them.

  37. As Alan likes to sit on one of the sofas there would be no room to moved it I am afraid and he only ever sits in the back sitting room when there are guests sitting there chatting.

During daytime I will always sit in the back but it is not a favourite chair but a place where I can reach all I might need!

Reading the newspaper on a Kindle - just not the same I am afraid.

    ReplyDelete
  38. We may as well face it, kindle and other e-readers are here to stay. I have always loved my books but the act of reading is so much easier on Kindle.
I think most people would choose the chair, or move the chair.
