This past Sunday afternoon, the aromatic oil diffuser did it again. We were literally knocked out within ten minutes of dropping in some Peace and Calm. I slept for nearly three hours upright in a chair while John napped on the sofa. Talk about sleep deprived.
Edited to add: For those who've asked, I first mentioned this item *here.*
When we woke, we decided that, since we were not house captives as is usually the case, we would go to the flea market. While there, I received a call from my grandson via his aunt saying that he wanted to come for a visit. Oh no!
But never fear, I set up a quick ice cream date and asked them to meet us at "the farm" where we'd have ice cream and visit the animals to include a llama who spits. Perfect.
I've never taken my grandson for an ice cream before so was quite interested about his order. It was fast and sure: small chocolate soft serve in a dish with rainbow sprinkles. Oh. Interesting. My daughter ordered a medium half and half (chocolate and vanilla) and I ordered a mocha chip cone as did John.
We sat outside at the picnic tables enjoying our treats and watching rabbits scamper about in their hutches. Sam ate his with careful attention and after a little while, his aunt told him that he had a "jimmy" on his chin. Sam's eyes grew very wide and slowly he asked, "Why do you say that I have Jimmy on my chin?"
Honestly, I just love this age. Language is so interesting not to mention confusing. So what do you call these things?
Jimmies are the rice grain shaped ones, the tiny round ones are sprinkles. That's how we call 'em.
ReplyDeleteYes, the language at the age is delightful, and the way the thoughts come out of the brain without a filter. Fun!
Glad you had a restful respite.
O.k First things first. What is in that oil diffuser...putting you to sleep for hours??? LOL
ReplyDeleteSecondly, kids are amazing. I am glad you found this creative way to enjoy the grands.
Finally, (this is a three-point comment). I would have chosen mocha chip too. Yum!

I always just called them sprinkles...didn't know there were different names!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Penny
I always called them sprinkles but there is an ice cream stand around here called Jimmie Cone. They call them jimmies there and that is the first time I head them called that.
ReplyDeleteSprinkles! heehee! That's cute ..and sounds like a perfect day to me! ♥
ReplyDeleteAww - yep gotta love kids and their sayings. Mmm... I love chocolate jimmies on chocolate ice cream. but my fav is black raspberry!!
ReplyDeleteWishing you a wonderful week!
Leann
The term 'jimmie' is new to me as well...we go by sprinkles on the west coast.
ReplyDeleteAs for my choice of ice-cream...black raspberry cheesecake is my pick!
An ice-cream date sounds like a fine outing...for young and old. We are having 'sprinkles from the sky' today so we'll hold the ice-cream.
Sleep!
ReplyDeleteEscape!
And quick thinking!
Doesn't get much better than that! :-)
By quick thinking, I mean thinking of a fun time for all, for a 'Grand child' visit. As opposed to being sent back to be cooped up in your house, for said visit. Back to your house, which must kind of feel like a prison now...
Gentle hugs...
what was in the diffuser? :0
ReplyDeleteman! you must have been exhausted!!
well, i have never heard the term jimmies...but we do call these little colorful things sprinkles.
sounds like a fun day! i would have had a half and half, too! my fav!
hugs,
becky
Thank you and I learned something new too! Yes, I love the language-learning stage of these precious little ones! How much fun you had!
ReplyDeleteIt was nice to have you visit today. I'm home just periodically now but love to stop by your place when I can!
The Lord bless your week!
sprinkles, of course! :)
ReplyDeletei am RUNNING out to get one of
those diffusers, but i suspect your
extreme sleep deprivation had more
to do with the nice, long nap.
it makes me very happy that you
had a lovely day of rest and ice cream!
love,
la
Mmm, an outing with ice cream. We call them sprinkles here, I've never heard of jimmies.
ReplyDeleteI'd choose red raspberry sherbet or a deep dark chocolate fudge. On second thought, never mind the raspberry, just hand over the chocolate.
Too cute! So glad you got a good nap and an ice cream date. We call them sprinkles, not matter how shaped. I have my grand girl today, she is scarfing down sweet green peas at the moment so I thought I would pop in for a quick visit. Have a happy Tuesday!
ReplyDeleteThat's sweet : )
ReplyDeleteSounds like a perfect outing with a child. Glad you guys are catching up on some much needed rest.
ReplyDeleteHey, it is time for you to SHARE not only your ice cream and sprinkles, but also your sleep inducing oil diffuser. Honestly, I could sure use it.
ReplyDeleteMocha chip-yes. Round Top Mocha Chip or Ginger.

Yes, they are indeed called Jimmies. I think even I had temporarily forgotten that little bit of information.
ReplyDeleteI'm with Becky, I need to know more about his oil infusor, although usually I don't need one to take a nap.
Since everyone seems to be weighing in on their favorite ice cream, I'll mention that mine is Chocolate Cake Batter.
There are also traditions that fall by the wayside. I would never, ever in a hundred years send out one of my handbags or wallets to a customer without including a lucky penny. I can just hear my grandmother's voice telling me the importance of this tradition...er, uhhh, superstition. She felt it was major bad luck otherwise.

ReplyDeleteVee,
ReplyDeleteWhat a charming post. When I was four we lived in Queens, N.Y. and there was a cute little ice cream parlor across the street from Kindergarten. Every afternoon my Granmother would pick me and my Uncle (just 2 years older) from school and we would head over for those squarish soft cones with a scoop of Vanilla ice cream with chocoalte Sprinkles.
When I moved to Canada I think that is where I first heard the expression Jimmies.
Jimmies...Sprinkles...they all taste good to me.
Hi Vee,
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun ice cream date! My Grands love ice cream and its so much fun to see their faces light up while ordering their favorite flavor..with sprinkles... I'm not sure what a jimmie is.
Have a sweet day, Big hugs~Elizabeth
please tell me what that is that put you to sleep?
ReplyDeletesounds wonderful.
Lisa
We used to call them jimmies but started calling them sprinkles when I had my own kids.
ReplyDeleteYour day sounds wonderfully relaxing and I'm glad you and John got some much needed rest.

ReplyDeleteSuch a sweet story, Vee! I've always called them sprinkles :)
