A Haven for Vee

Quite a Ride

My grands have been having some fun rides this summer. I'm so glad. They are just the right age to enjoy these delights and will be for a few years more. That my son and daughter-in-law fit these fun events into the budget makes everybody happy.

Both boys really enjoyed a trip up White Mountain on the *Cog Railroad* in July. My son said that he white-knuckled it all the way, much to his wife's amusement, and the boys, perfectly oblivious to their dad's discomfort, grinned all the way to the top.

These photos are of the most recent adventure...a little time spent with Thomas.

Ahhhh, this is the life!

And off they go on another adventure. Wish that Jake would at least hold onto the wheel.
While the boys are enjoying their rides, I'm on one of a completely different sort. Every time I think that this thing...oh, let's just call it what it is...Herpes Simplex Virus...is on its way out, I'm tricked. So thanks for asking about me. I'm still in the throes of it taking my medicines and being ultra careful to be socially responsible. John gets no kisses...linens are changed often...dishes are washed in bleach...they're always washed in bleach...I wash my hands a lot...I stay at home and grin groan.

My goal is to get a ride up the Cog Railroad in late September...wouldn't it be beautiful?  Edited to Add: Wait a minute! I remember typing "is there a ride you'd like to go on?" but it got lost in editing. I still want to know!

  1. Cute pics and I love it, that she dresses them alike... Sometimes any way.

I sometimes did that with our 2 boys who were only 1 1/2 years apart. :-)

    Gentle hugs..

  2. Yes Dear, I know that when one has a cold sore, one has HSV. And I also know that... Yikes it sounds awful, doesn't it? -le sigh- One of those things which, go unspoken in polite company and all that jazzzzz. But are soooooooo commmmmmon.

    Sooooo commmmmmon.

    Sooooo commmmmmon.

But the "being socially responsible" part is terror. Just for nice people like us, I guess. Because you can't tell me that everyone who has it, knows it or even admits it.

Good for you! For calling a spade a spade! Wish more people would! Then maybe, less kiddies would get infected by loving relatives. Yeahhh... :-(

Oh and, there is so much more to learn about this topic. Sad to say. Sad to say. But there is. I became a walking encyclopedia on it, when ... I was diagnosed.

Hang in there! You know you need to be calm, don't you? Mmmm, could not being calm, for so long, have triggered an outbreak? Nope, I won't go there. I am reformed and I don't bug you anymore.

Sending you many gentle and understanding hugs............

  4. Vee,
I was just catching up on some posts of yours. I just wanted to come back and say be patient with yourself. Don't be surprised if you aren't in the middle of a grief. Even though you might not know yet where Nan will be going, letting go when you have been in the thick of taking care of someone is difficult. I think we can grieve inside over losing the caregiving part.

Well, I hope you are feeling better soon. I will say an extra prayer today.

  5. 'Mornin' Vee! Those boys are growing so fast! Excellent pictures - they are so handsome - and I used to dress my boys alike when I could. Yours are so close in size now it's easy!

You rest - Karen's got some good advice for you there. You've been stressing for a long time now, and it's time to relax a little and take some time to care for yourself. Big hugs, my friend!

  6. My ride? Well, yes. I've always wanted horses. Crazy at my age I know after so many years. But when we move to the farm (hopefully in the next 6 months or so, maybe even before Christmas), my sweet husband has told me over and over that he will get me a couple of horses - even if I never ride them. I rode all the time as a kid, and have wanted my own horses all my adult life.

Of course, I'm much more cautious now and leery of falling and breaking something. But just to have them, brush and groom them, smell the hay and the leather and the horsey-smell, it would be heavenly to me!

My other ride? To someday travel to Italy and France and paint on location en plein air...

  9. Stress. (Sure you don't have Shingles? Which, of course, is another form of herpes...) I hope you feel better very soon.

    Great pictures.

    Prayers.

  10. It's stress that brings out those sores. You may have to take the medicine on a regular basis until the stress levels are down. {{{hugs}}} And the grandsons are adorable, BTW.

  12. Sweet boys looking like they are having fun!
I truly believe the immune system reacts differently in people when the body and emotions are stressed. I never had hives until I was 36 yrs. old and developed an allergy to a thyroid hormone I had taken for 20 yrs. The body REMEMBERS!!! Since then whenever I am under duress beyond the normal cares of life, my body reacts with a vengeance in miserable hives! Last summer was terrible, but I'm convinced that recognizing the trigger (my body out of control) in response to my emotions and sleeping as much as possible is what allows healing to take place. If only I could remember this!lol
    Take care!

  14. Your grandsons look so cute dressed alike in their train decorated outfits! My grandson has also developed a love for Thomas the train and my daughter-in-law is decorating his "big boy" room with a train motif.

My husband actually drove up Mount Washington! He was VERY white knuckled as we all went higher and higher up that mountain, as there is one road that is almost straight up! All he could think about was how was he going to be able to drive down such a steep slope? They have many turn outs on the way down so that the car brakes can cool. He told us "never again'! lol When we go to Pike's peak someday we'll go on the cog railway there...that is the ride I can't wait to go on one day.

My son gets cold sores, Vee. He finds taking the herb Lysine helps, and also an OTC called Abreva.

  15. I sure hope you start feeling better soon!

Your grandsons are cute in their matching outfits...they look like they are having a lot of fun, too. I had to laugh at the picture of your son's white knuckles, that sounds like me!

Oh, to be able to turn back the clock for a brief time and ride horses again. I loved my horses and rode quite frequently on the farm growing up. Other than that, I wouldn't mind going again to the top of Pikes Peak on the cogwheel train. We went a number of years ago and I'd go again if I had the chance.

    Have a good Thursday!

  16. Vee, your grand-babies are just precious. I am sure they brighten your life immensely! I know they brought a smile to my day.

As for a ride, my kiddos and hubby keep me on a wild one, but I want to travel cross-country via railroad one day. I have wanted to do that since I was a little girl watching Little House on the Prairie and seeing their train rides. =)

I hope you get to feeling better soon. I know you have had so much on you lately.

  17. I would love to go on that ride too. What fun!!! Your grands are adorable ♥ I wish Anne would let me post pictures of Ryan and our adventures. Sorry to hear about your distress. Hopefully with the meds you will be cleared up soon and ready to go to the top of that mountain. If, and when you do, pictures, pictures, pictures please :>)

  18. Enjoyed a visit here. I will be following. Your post that mentioned the Cog Railroad caught my eye. I had to immediately see where you live. I traveled with some girlfriends to some of the New England area in June. We were there for about 11 days. And we rode it! Such a beautiful area all around.

    Come see me!
