Finding Joy

I was told that the electrician would be by around 9 a.m. to check on a few things. I had no idea. He was here by 8:30. In very short order, Mort and John were moving all the furniture away from the walls to check each and every light and outlet. < thud >

Oh, my dear, can you even imagine? Yes, do allow your mind to go there.

Two and a Half Hours of Pure Joy

Mort grinned at John some time into the project and said, "It's been two and a half hours of pure joy, right John?"

Now they really did seem to be having some fun, but my house was a disaster area, no electricity so I couldn't amuse myself by sewing or by being on the computer. I did eat...as I recall...it all went by in a blur...an entire jar of candy corn. (Yes, we are still on our eating program.)

Two and a half hours of something considerably less than joy

I have not yet learned how to make myself content in all situations nor to consider it all joy. I should take lessons from Molly (the poodle) there who curled up on one end of a crowded sofa and napped using the birdhouse for a pillow.

Finally, I thought of my camera. Here are a few of the sweeter vignettes I found among the piles.

So, should you find yourself in a mess (a white mess) today and tomorrow, so many of us will, try to find the sweet joys lying all around.

  1. Vee, I'm so glad that you shared photos of your project and what it's doing to your home. The best part is that you found beauty!

I can truly empathize. Since Peek's surgery, we've had to be creative in finding ways to keep her from jumping. The sofa seating area has a suitcase, storage container, and another little crate to fill in a small space. The recliners are covered with pillows. We have the "playpen" to keep her confined most of the time. It's such a mess! I continue to hope that nobody comes to our door. We're suppose to keep it this way for at least another week - preferably longer.

I love your little Molly. She's such a little sweetie.

I think I need to go downstairs and see what sweet joys I can find amidst the mess. I needed this post - thank you!

  3. It seems my house is always in some stage of construction, remodeling, sewing, painted, planting....I don't know what it would be like if something wasn't a mess :-0!!!

Are you getting snow? Stay warm...

  4. I usually leave at the beginning of a project and come home when it's done but if it's snowing I don't leave the house at all. I'm chicken #1 about driving down hills in the snow :0)
Hope you have a cozy weekend.

  5. I can't stand disorganized messes either! And no electricity for several hours? GAH! Yeah, I would have grabbed the camera too...

  6. OHHHHHHHHHHH jolly fun!!! Everything pulled out and a mess. Eeeeeeeek!!!

But I'm sure it was somehow necessary, and who wants to have worries about *the electric,* as they used to say. No one does.

Good luck with the first Nor'easter! Mmmmmmmmm, did someone say "too early"? ,-) MUST remember, how *delightful* it will be for the *Occupying Protesters.* Heh,heh,heh...

  7. Oh Joy! The joys of renos and repairs. We spent the morning raking leaves onto flower beds, cutting and bagging perennials, pine needles, branches, etc. This afternoon we'll be putting away the lawn chairs and flower planters. What a job! However, we'll be prepared for the s**w that's supposed to come overnight and tomorrow even though there will be s**w on the Halloween pumpkins. :( I hope you don't get a very bad storm. Blessings, Pamela

  8. Good morning Vee,
So great to be able to visit you again, lots been happening here at the farm and like you and John lots of projects, matter of fact way to many! And since it is raining today and very cold,we are taking the day off.
I so relate to having the home in chaos as a result of such projects. I too need to take lessons from Molly.

I didn't comment on some of your previous posts but enjoyed them so much, especially the blogging tips, as I have become such a poor blogger lately, thanks for the info, but most of all for the encouragement. I have been thinking a lot lately about blogging and this is just what I needed to read. And thanks for the heads up on the Giving thanks Challenge, I really want to join.
I always enjoy seeing what and how you work your photography, such beauty.
Oh! btw like the new mustache look.

    Hugs,
    Sue

  10. See, I cannot stand having people in my house doing "work" like that. It just upsets the whole household (mainly me). :P

  11. Sounds like your house is going to be nice and safe with all the electrical work done. I'm so afraid of fires, and so many are started by bad electrical connections.

I appreciated the mess and hard work by seeing the pictures.

Your flower pictures are so pretty!!!

  12. Progress is always so messy!! LD is in our bedroom as I write. Dealing with some electrical things in the one wall we still have to paper. Cutting sheetrock makes me nervous.

Hope you get everything back to normal in no time!

  13. Vee,
Just caught up on your blog. We're having plenty of snowfall today. Hearing a tree branch crash now and again because of all the leaves on the trees holding so much snow....but it's beautiful, especially if we don't lose power!
Glad you found some beauty in the upheaval!

  14. I love your beautiful flowers! And I hope by now you're mess is straightened out! It sure feels cold here in the mountains...40 with North winds! Sure makes me feel COLD after being in FL just a few days ago! Enjoy your weekend, sweet Vee! ♥

  15. Boy it's been years since I've had candy corn... a whole jar you say? LOL

Molly is a wise one.... I'll join you in taking a lessons from her.

Someone who prayed for me the other day felt to say I need to be as a reed, willowy and fluid, able to bend and roll as needed through various circumstances.

Mmm... let's see... candy corn would probably do that.... LOL

  16. It snowed all day here but thankfully nothing accumulate don the ground. Thius is such wacky weather!

Glad your electricty is now back on and the project is finished. In situations like this I would have curled up by a window with a good book and a cup of tea and a cat on my lap :)

At least you have a legitimate excuse for your home being a mess!
I can't say the same for myself.
Your photos are lovely. Is that an ancestor in photo #2? Just nosy, as usual!

  18. Sunday Comment...

You didn't say how much snow you got. We got hardly anything but a thick dusting, but it's so cold, that it's still around.

Weather map rather looked like you were in for a bigger snow-load, but... Not sure.

Glad you kept power, even if Net went out.

Simple LOVELY photo of the Faerie Lights on your mantle! I soooooooo love pics like this!!!!!!!!

  20. SNOW ~~?? how we are PRAYING for snow this winter. We really need the moisture.
Sooo, aren't you glad to be getting all this work done? The mess wouldn't bother me a bit, knowing I could get it all back together later...:))

  21. I'm always Ken's helper on our house projects and i've actually learned a lot from him.
When we make a mess, it cleans up good again and then looks even better!!

  22. OH wow. .I am feeling for you. I heard about snow coming to your parts and immediately wondered how much was left to do outside. Wiring inside. .is good. .or at least better than digging trenches outside.
    Stay warm.

  23. what glorious vignettes! they almost
made me forget one of my least
favorite things: work men who arrive
without any warning and me in my
    jammies!

  24. We saw your snow on tv. Glad it has cleared for you Vee.
