Apple Ridge Day
Though we had more important things to do, my mother, sister, and I stopped in at Apple Ridge where we found all kinds of mums, pumpkins, squash, apples, and cider. Did we buy any of those? No. Donuts. We just wanted some donuts hot from the deep fat fryer. Hmmmmmm...
But, in honor of the blue hubbard squash and the butternut squash or even the pumpkin, I'm offering a Winter Squash Soup recipe from Mountain Harvest Organic. It looks pretty healthful with the ricotta cheese instead of heavy cream. See, I really am good.
How's the first full day of autumn going so far?

Witty signs they've posted! Autumn's first day here started out with rain and wind, now there's sun and wind. Methinks it's time to go for a walk!
ReplyDeleteI love squash soup. Mmmmmm.
I love your post! I think the soup sounds gooooood.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photo collage, Vee! Who can pass up fresh donuts? That soup sounds really good too!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos. We are enjoying a nice warm fire in the woodstove, as it is gray and rainy outdoors! :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings!

What a great collage you have assembled on this day in early fall. So glad you gals were able to enjoy a donut together. Thanks for sharing the soup recipe. It sounds right up my alley and once the weather feels more autumnal, I will be sure to make it.
ReplyDeleteIt's 91 degrees here and it's 6:30 in the evening! Fall didn't get the message about arriving in TN!
ReplyDeleteYour photo makes me want to get out & go to our local orchard. They also have apple cider donuts, but I've never gotten there early enough to try them! As far as my fall...it' still sizzling here in Indiana. We were supposed to break a record of 91 degrees today. And we are on fire alert because it is so windy & dry. Come on autumn rains!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place to visit the first full day of Autumn! I would have had the donut and fresh pressed cider!!
ReplyDeleteIt was in the 80's here today, but I still did a little fall decorating.
Hugs,
Penny
We had 94 degrees here today so it's a little hard to get into fall. I'll eat donuts anytime though. Love your photo collage.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos! My hubby loves fresh doughnuts from our bakery, too! And thanks for the delicious recipe! We love soups when it gets cool! ♥
ReplyDeleteLooks so inviting!!!
ReplyDeleteThe first full day of autumn went pretty well over here! It was 92 degrees in South Carolina but the oppressive humidity has abated somewhat. I am looking forward to some cool fall days, which I dearly love.
ReplyDeleteAnd I would've gone for the donuts too. After admiring the squash and pumpkins, o' course!
Fantastic. ..how absolutely wonderful to take a day to see that kind of beauty.
ReplyDeleteoh, i miss that sweet new england
ReplyDeletecider! and the apples!
but, i'm with you, i love nothing more
than a homemade doughnut!
love,
lea
Thanks for the soup recipe, Vee! I've never had a squash soup, so I'm looking forward to that. Might wait until it's not in the 90's tho... Nice mosaic, too, with the autumnal theme!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful mosaic. It is still so hot here and green, only little signs of the colors to come, tiny acorns, the last of the blooming wild sunflowers on the roadside, and golden rod coming into full bloom.
ReplyDeleteThe first day of fall has been a terrible one to be honest. When I clicked on your blog and saw that little tea cup and cookie with the message that says, So glad you are here..., well, it made me feel welcome and put a tear in my eye. Thank you, dear Vee, for providing a soft place to land and to be welcome.
Have a wonderful weekend!
We may live on opposite sides of the continent...but it seems we visited the same apple farm. Only...I never saw any deep-fried donuts when I was there. I came home with some apple cider...that's it.
ReplyDeleteNice mosaic!
Sounds perfectly lovely! Your pictures are just beautiful and a perfect representation of fall!.. So glad you got to enjoy it.
ReplyDeleteThe fall is such a beautiful time of the year. Warn in the day time and cool at night. Your pictures are lovely. I think it's time for a trip to the cider mill!
ReplyDeleteThe recipe looks delicious. We are finally getting some warm weather in Southern California so I will wait and give this recipe a try as soon as it cools off again.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...donuts...who can resist them!!! And with cider they are out of this world! Your photos are so lovely.
Autumn offers such beauty and you've certainly captured it in your mosaic. Who could pass up that smell of fresh donuts?
ReplyDeleteDonuts would be my first choice, unfortunately. With cider or coffee to wash them down.
