What in the World is Going On?

Things are happening in the oak grove next door just in case you don't think that anything ever happens around here. What would give you that idea anyway? Is it because I never have anything exciting to report? No matter, all of that has changed as of last Saturday when two people were discovered hugging a tree on my neighbor's back lawn. I could not imagine what they were up to. Let's take a closer look, shall we?

Hmmm, still not quite close enough...

Ahhh, I see a bucket! Huh? What?

This one's almost full...

So this oak grove that I've been living in for over 15 years is really a bunch of maples? Where did all those squirrels and acorns come from? What kind of maple syrup does oak sap make?

Guess that I've been laboring under some false impressions. I do that a lot it seems. How about you?

Have a fun Wednesday! I think I'll go call my neighbor...

ETA: Mystery solved...see my comment in the comment section.

  1. That is so funny Vee! Maple trees in Oak Grove?? You've got to report to us regarding what you find out about this turn of events. They certainly don't use any old sap for syrup do they? We need more info here in blogland! LOL

Your potatoe soup recipe sounds great! thanks!

Have a great day in Oak Grove!?

    Hugs, sherry

  4. My son tried tapping into a pine tree the other day to get Maple Syrup, so apparently it flows from whatever type tree you wish:-)

  7. Tree huggers! I'd hug a tree if it gave me pure maple syrup. Yum.

  9. My goodness Vee. Great minds think alike I guess. I'm talking maple syrup today too!!! HA. Are there a few maple trees tucked in the oak grove. I don't think I've ever heard of oak syrup. Don't you wonder how someone decided to try and eat sap? And who decided the sap tasted terrible and might be improved with cooking?

  10. Did you go sneak a wee bit of syrup to drizzle on your grapefruit this morning?

I checked your profile...was thinking it had you living at the edge of the oak forest...but it's all good. The turkey buzzards probably don't care if they are maples or oaks.

  11. I guess there must be a few maple trees in with the oak. Maybe you'll get some of the maple syrup! :-)

  12. Hmmmmm, I'm no expert on maple syrup or trees. But they're obviously getting sap, to sugar. Maybe you could just wander out there, and ask? In a jovial sort of way, of course. :-)

Mmmmm, now that you've posted this, I think it's your blogging DUTY, to do just that!!!! ,-)

OT but... on the topic of my ever continuing quest to find Yellow pics, for you.... Please note Demi Moore in pretty Yellow dress.

Or, if that's too plain, for you today.... Please note this.

  17. You still have quite a bit of snow!
It looks pretty through your window.Do these guys go around tapping all of the trees or just your neighbors? Yes, I think we need to know more about this. It seems as though you have started a blogland buzz :>)

  18. Can't wait to hear what your neighbor has to say! That is sure a mystery!

Thanks for stopping by today and for your comment. I'll give a suggestion for a great Bible study method in my post tomorrow!

Meanwhile keep that tree-tapping under surveilance!

  19. Hi Vee, I hope the Soup was good and that you had a great St. Patricks Day. Sounds odd the tree business...what is really going on there? hugs Margie.

  20. Hmmm, maybe the neighbors are experimenting with a new nutty flavored syrup. Curiouser and curiouser.

  21. Are they sugar maple trees!? Maybe there are a few mixed in with the oaks? I read recently New York Times) that maple syrup was not harvested in large amounts the past two years and the price was going up. The industry was asking for more trees to be tapped to make up for the shortage and even those that belonged to private homes. I'll send the article to you in e-mail.

  22. Yes, "the mystery" is solved. All of the tapped trees are indeed sugar maples. The past two years have been very bad for sap production...winter lasted too long and it was too cold and then the conditions were too warm. There must be the right balance between warm days and cold nights. Of the trees on the lawn, only two are oaks. The two nearest to me, hence my confusion. My neighbor got quite the kick out of all this.

  23. So funny Vee :] But how cool is that to have real sugar maples in your neighborhood. Hope they give you some.

  24. How interesting to see the sugar being tapped from the Maples. Just like they take the latex from the rubber tree.

  25. Maple syrup right at your back door! I hope your neighbour's will share some with you!
